Morgan Freeman wants to make Black History Month a thing of the past

Damn it. Just when we were ready to write off Morgan Freeman as a Hollywood wacko for having an affair with his step granddaughter, we run across this video. It shows Freeman telling an absolutely incredulous Mike Wallace why he’s against Black History Month.

Mike Wallace: Black history month you find ridiculous. Why?
Morgan Freeman: You’re going to relegate my history to a month?
Mike Wallace: Oh, c’mon.
Morgan Freeman: What do you do with yours? Which month is white history month? Well, c’mon, tell me.
Mike Wallace: I’m Jewish.
Morgan Freeman: OK, which month is Jewish history month?
Mike Wallace: There isn’t one.
Morgan Freeman: Oh, oh. Why not? Do you want one?
Mike Wallace:No.
Morgan Freeman: No, I don’t either. I don’t want a black history month. Black history is American history.
Mike Wallace: How we gonna get rid of racism until…
Morgan Freeman: Stop talking about it. I’m going to stop calling you a white man. And I’m going to ask you to stop calling me a black man. I know you as Mike Wallace. You know me as Morgan Freeman.

He made so much sense that 60 Minutes correspondent Mike Wallace is left damn near speechless.

And for that alone, Freeman is working his way back into our good graces.

  • Uhm.... what happened to the video? I would have liked to see it...

In any case, when I say things like these I always get the weird look from people. However it makes sense... overall there is hispanic month there is asian month there is international blah blah blah is like please stop the nonsense. Why cant we just be human?

    • Because that removes the "Victimization" element from the Libtard/Socilist/Marxist argument and then their "Poor ole' pitiful me" agenda collapses under the weight of being a part of the whole instead of being "special".

  • Morgan is right.
Race is like God in a away....simply divisive especially if fed energy...
Man is not capable of rational thinking in either matter.

  • so...this is just making news...now? that interview is from over 3 and a half years ago. what is all this commotion about it all of a sudden? granted it is a strong point for morgan freeman to make, and maybe it deserves discussion, but why is it a big deal today? is this just a flash-in-the-pan attempt to give people a quotation to fire back with when called on an off-color comment? because frankly, just because a celebrity says something controversial doesn't make it dictum, especially when no one seemed to notice it when he said it originally several years prior.

not to take away from mr. freeman's bold statement, not at all in fact. i'm merely suggesting that its being referred to now (well after the fact) to somehow justify particular behaviors. be careful how you take what he said. give it some thought before reacting.

  • When someone asks you your race, if you reply anything other than human race, you help racism. There are no winners when we make distinctions like this.

  • YES! THIS! Only take this concept and apply it to affirmative action, hate crime legislation, and minority group organizations and scholarships in post-secondary institutions. I now love Morgan Freeman for more than just his amazing voice.

  • Wow. Just wow. What Morgan said was so simple and it just plain made sense. Why can't Mike Wallace just get that through his pea brain?

Easy Reader was my favorite character from kids TV. Now I understand why.

    Texas is Galt's Gulch.

  • I agree with Morgan completely. I hate referring to someone by the colour of their skin and I detest it when other people do this or make the colour of a person a detrimental feature of their character. My sister-in-law seems to think that being B-L-A-C-K is a disease, yet she's Asian and I'm Caucasian.
