MTV star defends new show’s sexual content: “It’s what teens are doing.” Are second graders next?

There’s a new show on MTV called “Skins” that features 15-year olds having sex. Outraged critics call it child porn, but one of its young stars defends the program by saying, “It’s what teens are doing.”

The Hollywood Reporter lives up to its name and reports:

sofia-black-delia
Would it be too harsh if we said Sofia Black-D'elia is a moron?

Skins star Sofia Black-D’elia – who plays a lesbian teen on the MTV series – is defending the controversial content.

“It’s pushing the boundaries for teen drama because I think Skins goes where other shows are afraid to,” she said on the HDNet show ‘Naughty But Nice With Rob’ this week.

… Black-D’elia says, “It’s what teens are doing. It’s the way teenagers believe, I think, especially you know in certain situations when you come from home lives where your parents don’t really support you or really listen to you. That’s what most of these kids are going through. And so, um, the drugs and the sex, they’re vices, and that’s what teenagers have.”

Sofia, honey, we’re not quite sure how to break this to you, but lots of improper things happen in life, but that doesn’t mean they need to be glorified. Is there an age limit to what gets shown on television or is “It’s what they’re doing” the only determining factor?

This story from CBS San Francisco might even make Black-D’elia think twice:

A teacher at Oakland’s Markham Elementary School has been suspended indefinitely after school officials said a pair of second-graders performed sex acts on each other in class – with the teacher present.

“I think everyone is taken aback over this shocking incident,” Troy Flint, the spokesman for the Oakland Unified School District, told CBS 5. “Of course, it is hard to understand how that could have occurred.”

… In one case, several students apparently took off their clothes and were naked in the classroom. In the second incident, a boy and girl reportedly engaged in oral sex in front of their classmates.

Would Ms. Black-D’elia be opposed to a show that featured second grade sex? Probably not. Because, like, you know, it’s what second graders are doing.

We’re pretty sure she’d say it shouldn’t be on MTV because Nickelodeon would do a far better job of reaching the target demographic.

  • This is the same old cry of the left media. They have been saying for years that they only "reflect" society as it is and the right is just mad about it. Years ago (I wish I had it!), I found a study that proved them wrong. They took the average female during prime time television and compared her to the average female in America. They DID NOT MATCH! Not income. Not morals. Not marital status. Not job positions. They always exaggerate and push the extremes hoping that society will imitate their bad behavior. How about this one Miss Sicko Sofia? I have read where some sick parents have killed their teens. Wanna make a series on that? Didn't think so. You wouldn't want to start that trend would you?

  • There are rumblings that MTV will be taking this show off the air. Due to, you know, every company on the face of the planet pulling their advertising from it.

Some teens may act like this, but not all of 'em. Just like when I went to HS - SOme teens took drugs, some teens made it like little bunny rabbits, some teens did neither. It is the case of "I do this so everyone else must do it as well." Sounds like a typical pothead to me...

    • Maybe not, how many sponsers did Beck lose, 200? 300? Whatever, & he's still on the air. But seriously, it is simple, outside of criminal action, if the show makes money, it will stay on the air. If not, it goes away.

  • How disgusting. That is disgusting and the permissiveness of this culture is more and more assimilating to that of Ancient Rome and we all know how that worked out... People better wake up.

As for this little girl she needs to calm down. I saw a lot of kids having children out of wedlock and taking drugs and messing up their futures... but just because they were doing it, it didnt mean I had to mirror that behavior nor applaud progras that mirror that behavior. There is nothing laudable about disgusting and immoral behavior whatsoever.

  • This country is done for along with Europe unless conservatives take over and turn things around 180deg., but I'm not sure that will ever happen because there are just too many liberals and complacent, lazy non caring and stupid people. And the chances for change for the better get less likely all the time because of our traitorous president welcoming in 100's of thousands of muslum imigrants and our open southern border. Many of those new comers are not here because they love this country either.

    • Go read "the fourth turning". One of the things it says is that we'll see a slow down and reversal of the lame anti-social trends. Gen X is middle-aged now and the highest rated videos on youtube are miley cyrus and justin beiber. Lame yes but not self absorbed whores or drug addicts.

MTV is retarded and frustrating and makes me wonder how stupid society can possibly become but they're just cruising on autopilot. their entire format was formed out of the gen x rebel era.

  • Hmmmm, Oakland. It would be a wonderful place, if only we could move out all the people who live there. I'm trying to remember, wasn't Jerry Brown the mayor of that fine city?

  • MTV star defends new show’s sexual content: “It’s what teens are doing.”
NOT in my house they're not. My children have been taught correctly and think all these types of kids are morons. It all comes down to parenting. It all starts at home.

    • How'd you do that? My first is almost done baking and I wonder about these things. I know if I just tell him he can't watch MTV because its naughty he'll just do it behind my back or wait till college and go nuts.

      At least I don't have a daughter.

  • Now this is very strange, middle age men watching 15 year old lesbians on the Internet would be subject to arrest and jail, but middle aged men watching 15 year old lesbians on MTV would be subject only to obnoxious commercials.

MTV hasn't been on my "watch" list for a long time. This "Skins" controversy just reinforces that decision.

  • “It’s pushing the boundaries for teen drama because I think Skins goes where other shows are afraid to,”

With all due respect Miss Black-D'Elia (which, frankly, is very little), we don't care what you think. You're 15. You don't make the rules. You don't know this yet, though you may in another 20 years (but no guarantees) - you're an idiot.

      • There are other actors who are between 16 and 17 on this show and some whose age do not appear for some reason (probably because this is one of their first jobs ever and their names havent yet been established). Yet they are still playing very young people and the problems still persist.

    • I think it was when they brought us "The Real World" in 1992. That was really the end of MUSIC television. The M in mtv stands for music, they play almost no music anymore. I do hit VH1 Classic though, more rock & instermental stuff. By instermental, I mean music that is played, not sampled.

      • !992 was the complete collapse of MTV as a music channel... I take it back to 1985 because that's when they started airing non-music programing after the Viacom takeover.

        • In 85 when it started, it was basically a top 40 radio station, except in a video format. They also had specialty shows for rap, hard rock/heavy metal, & dance. It was light & fun, plus they had 1 of the best game shows ever in "Remote Control". Now, Mtv is just sh!t.

          • To be honest, I wouldn't know... I quit watching when 'Yo MTV Raps' went 24-7 and it started being "BET for Suburban White Kids".

          • All part of the plan for 'Dumbing Down the American Youth'... It's damn near impossible to bring scum up to the level of decent productive people, but much easier to reduce those who might have aspired down to the level of those who never will by a constant barrage of glorified scum baggery.

Four questions for the MTV/Hollywood libtards:

            1. Why does Hollywood glamorize drug addicts, criminals, liberal Democrats, and mentally challenged people? What do they all have in common?

            2. How come Hollywood can always find a good side in thugs, but never in businesspeople?

            3. What was the last movie that pictured a self-reliant, industrious man as a role model?

            4. If it's capitalist greed that forces Hollywood to exploit the lowest human instincts, why didn't the same greed force Hollywood to exploit America's patriotism and make war movies showing the U.S. presence in Iraq and Afghanistan as a force for good? Wouldn't one such film bring more green cash than all the anti-American flops in the recent years? Where was Hollywood's capitalist greed then?
