Skins star Sofia Black-D’elia – who plays a lesbian teen on the MTV series – is defending the controversial content.

“It’s pushing the boundaries for teen drama because I think Skins goes where other shows are afraid to,” she said on the HDNet show ‘Naughty But Nice With Rob’ this week.

… Black-D’elia says, “It’s what teens are doing. It’s the way teenagers believe, I think, especially you know in certain situations when you come from home lives where your parents don’t really support you or really listen to you. That’s what most of these kids are going through. And so, um, the drugs and the sex, they’re vices, and that’s what teenagers have.”

Sofia, honey, we’re not quite sure how to break this to you, but lots of improper things happen in life, but that doesn’t mean they need to be glorified. Is there an age limit to what gets shown on television or is “It’s what they’re doing” the only determining factor?

This story from CBS San Francisco might even make Black-D’elia think twice:

A teacher at Oakland’s Markham Elementary School has been suspended indefinitely after school officials said a pair of second-graders performed sex acts on each other in class – with the teacher present.

“I think everyone is taken aback over this shocking incident,” Troy Flint, the spokesman for the Oakland Unified School District, told CBS 5. “Of course, it is hard to understand how that could have occurred.”

… In one case, several students apparently took off their clothes and were naked in the classroom. In the second incident, a boy and girl reportedly engaged in oral sex in front of their classmates.

Would Ms. Black-D’elia be opposed to a show that featured second grade sex? Probably not. Because, like, you know, it’s what second graders are doing.

We’re pretty sure she’d say it shouldn’t be on MTV because Nickelodeon would do a far better job of reaching the target demographic.

In all the talk about the MTV Music Awards, everyone seems to have forgotten the video for which Taylor Swift won the award that put idiot Kanye West over the top.
So here it is. “You Belong To Me,” a sweet, innocent country song and heartwarming video from a very talented 17-year old.

Blah, blah, blah, Kanya West blah, blah, blah.

The same idiot rapper who shocked America by announcing “Bush doesn’t care about black people” during a nationally-televised Hurricane Katrina charity event back in 2005, topped his long list of idiotic comments during the MTV Music Video Awards.

Here’s what happened: Taylor Swift was graciously accepting the award for Best Female Video. She’d won the award over Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson and a couple other flavor-of-the-month performers whose names no one will remember a year from now.

As Taylor was thanking MTV, West ran on stage, took the microphone from Swift, and announced that Beyonce had been robbed.

“Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time,” he said about her “Single Ladies” video.

Swift, as you can imagine, was shocked. She stood silently, trophy in hand while West ranted. Cameras cut to the audience, where Beyonce looked equally stunned. MTV quickly cut to a commercial break.

Can we make a fool of ourselves on national television? Yes, we Kanye.

Islamic MTV: Simultanously moronic and oxymoronic

Tough to imagine anything more moronic than MTV nor anything more oxymoronic than the term “Arabic MTV.”

Walk down the street in any Arab capital and you’ll see burkah-covered women. Yet turn on the TV in any Arab living room and you’ll find a dozen music video channels filled with bared flesh.

Enter Ahmed Abu Haiba, the founder of 4Shbab TV, which calls itself “Islam’s own MTV.”

The idea behind 4Shbab is simple, he says. Mainstream music videos are “lewd” and do not represent the Arab world’s cultural values. He says they are haram, or forbidden and sinful in Islam.

4Shbab TV is Abu Haiba’s attempt to put young people back on the right path, he says, in a way that is fun and entertaining. Music videos from around the world – not just “Islamic videos,” but anything that’s positive, he says – air alongside call-in shows and contests like “Who wants to be an Islamic pop star?”

“Ask people in the street and they will tell you that these channels are something strange in our culture,” he says. “They smash our identity and confuse people, especially the younger generation. They give them a misunderstanding about their own lives.

Arabic MTV. We can’t wait to see Madonna in a burkah singing “Like 72 Virgins.” al-Vis Presley singing “Jailhouse Rocket Grenade Launcher.” And purple caftan-clad Prince with his rendition of “Party Like It’s 1399.”
