Ahhhh, Newsweek. A magazine with a storied past, but a bleak present and an even grimmer future.
Its staffers were undoubtedly mortified last year when the magazine sold for a mere $1, but now, in order to make the comeuppance complete, its new print schedule makes a mockery of the publication’s name.

The New York Post details the unscheduled rescheduling:
The partners behind Newsweek Daily Beast Company appear to be holding down the flow of red ink this summer by cutting back on the number of Newsweek issues.
This past Monday started a dark week for the newsweekly. It now appears that it will be one of four dark weeks for the summer — two more than Tina Brown planned.
The original editorial calendar showed only one dark week, surrounding the July 4 weekend.
Staffers now have been told that they will not have to work the week of July 18-22 since no issue will appear on July 25. They also can spend a little extra time at the beach the week of Aug. 15-19, since there will now be no issue on Aug. 22.
The Editor went to high school with an unfortunate girl whose last name was Gorgeous, but whose appearance wasn’t.
We hope she takes solace in the fact that she is no longer the most misnamed noun in the world.

Should be re-named NEWSWEAK...A sometimes weekly, sometimes not publication of liberal news and opinions from some of todays most confused, dazed and intoxicated writers.
I would rather spend a buck on Mad-Magazine...it's more believable.
It's mind-boggling the way liberals refuse to make money. Newsweek has slanted more and more liberal and lost more and more money, Hollywood constantly makes liberal propaganda and then wonders why it doesn't sell, Fox News beats everybody's ass on TV by simply presenting a balanced viewpoint... what's wrong with liberals? Don't they WANT money?
Sure, they'd love to have some money, but only if it came in the form of a government subsidy. That way, they could write whatever drivel they want, without having to compete in the marketplace.
Not if they have to earn it honestly, you know, the way the rest of us earn money...by working for it!
Newsweek and Time are both Democrat outlets, which is okay, I respect the First Amendment. But sometime in the past decade I stopped reading them (along with hundreds of thousands other people) because their news is dated, their bias blatant and their price outrageous. I suspect both will be joining Life, Collier's and Redbook on the trash heap of print history. Too bad really.
We could call them "Harper's Bizarre"
Elrond,
Its called free market enterprise. If you give the people what they are wanting and interested in, you will survive and even make a profit. If you attempting to shove garbage down their throats all you will get is unemployed and or broke.
Can it be called "newsweek" if there is no "news" in it?
I do think that "newspeak" fits so much better!
They should change the name to "Newsfortnight" or "Newsmonth." But, then, as perlcat so astutely observes, what about content's bearing on the name? How about "Propogandafortnight" or "Propogandamonth"?
The dollar that Newsweak got at it's sale is proving to be far too much.
All I can say is HAR HAR HAR HAR!! Newsweek deserves it. Maybe they should put Obama on the cover more often?
Idiots.
I used to like Newsweek until I realized it was an open door for socialist pornography. That was about eleventy years ago. Since then, I won't even allow it in the outhouse!
Picture captions, left to right, top to bottom: I'm stoned, I'm stoned, I'm stoned, I'm stoned, I'm stoned, I'm pretending to pray because someone is taking my picture that think's I pray (and I'm stoned)
The publishers of this rag have only themselves to blame for it's slow death. I agree with RIM, follow the money, there is a very good chance it leads right back to Soros and his fools.
Begs the question, how have they been able to stay alive up to now? Same goes for many others in the print media and on TV. What keeps them going? Who keeps them going?
Dentist's offices. Where the reading material is always SOOOOO interesting.
