Bonfire of the Absurdities: After 35 year career writing software for IBM mainframes, am now self-employed contractor thinking of joining a union and striking for higher wages. Cured morbid fear of heights when I learned to look at them as lengths standing on end. Uncompromising in refusal to accept browser cookies. Amateur investor who has accumulated a small fortune in the market after starting out years ago with a large one. For recreation, I run, hike, kayak and play tennis but will not consider synchronized swimming under any circumstances.

    Wrong. FIrst, Clinton didn't leave Bush with a mess----certainly not an economic mess. Second, Bush was warned that Bin Laden was planning to strike the U.S. What did he do about it? Absolutely nothing. Third, Bush screwed up royally during the Katrina fiasco. Oh, yes, I know----it's fashionable to hang it all on Blanco and Nagin-----but the fact remains that Bush declared a federal state of emergency, then went tripping off on a round of birthday parties and photo-ops while New Orleans drowned, leaving a crony with no disaster management experience in charge. By the time he found out just how bad the problem was (through DVDs put together for him by aides, since he didn't like to watch TV news or read newspapers), the whole world already knew about it.

    Then, of course, there's the little detail that he started two interminable wars on credit (Iraq's oil will pay for it, Rumsfeld assured us all), and drove the deficit up to unprecedented levels.

    Sorry, but Busy OWNS those failures. He started out with a surplus, and ended up with a bad recession, two unwinnable wars, a drowned city, and a trashed international reputation. You can try to hang that on Obama or Clinton, but it's Bush's baby----it looks just like him ;)

      Theoretically, it doesn't and shouldn't. In the real world, though, I've noticed that those who do the most bashing of Obama are also the quickest to defend Bush's screw-ups, usually to the point of trying to stifle any discussion of his presidency. As in, "Bush isn't president any more, so we're going to blame all his failures on Obama, and b*tch nonstop because Obama hasn't magically cured them at no cost or obligation to us."

      Even Republican party leaders do it. At recent RNC conventions, even uttering the name "Bush" has been as taboo as wearing a hijab. ;)

        In the Bush years, when we were complaining about what Clinton did, all we got from left wingers was "Get over it, Clinton isn't President any more".

    The Montana Department of Employment, Division of Labor Standards claimed a small rancher was not paying proper wages to his help and sent an agent out to investigate him.
    GOV'T AGENT: "I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them."
    RANCHER: "Well, there's my hired hand who's been with me for 3 years. I pay him $200 a week plus free room and board.

I have a boss like you, he tells us every single meeting about his missionary trips and what he did when he was there. But, ask anyone who was actually there and he was there for photo op’s. People who are genuinly sincere about others don’t come onto a website where people with different opinions vent. It’s tasteless and most of all makes you look extremely foolish.
