NOW condemns Letterman, throws in gratuitous Limbaugh insult

Much to everyone’s surprise, and for the first time in support of a conservative woman in recent memory, the National Organization for Women condemned David Letterman’s ugly attack on Sarah Palin and her 14-year old daughter.

Here’s part of the statement from NOW’s website:

Letterman said “I recognize that these are ugly” jokes. NOW agrees. Comedians in search of a laugh should really know better than to snicker about men having sex with teenage girls (or young women) less than half their age.

The sexualization of girls and women in the media is reaching new lows these days — it is exploitative and has a negative effect on how all women and girls are perceived and how they view themselves. Letterman also joked about what he called Palin’s “slutty flight attendant look” — yet another example of how the media love to focus on a woman politician’s appearance, especially as it relates to her sexual appeal to men. Someone of Letterman’s stature, who appears on what used to be known as “the Tiffany Network” (CBS), should be above wallowing in the juvenile, sexist mud that other comedians and broadcasters seem to prefer.

So far, so good. But it was as if NOW just couldn’t bear chastising a liberal, so just for good measure they piled on Rush Limbaugh for something he said back in the early ‘90s:

On that point, it’s important to note that when Chelsea Clinton was 13 years old she was the target of numerous insults based on her appearance. Rush Limbaugh even referred to her as the “White House dog.” NOW hopes that all the conservatives who are fired up about sexism in the media lately will join us in calling out sexism when it is directed at women who aren’t professed conservatives.

Back at you, NOW. Might be nice if you guys came out in support of a conservative woman a little more often.

  • Tell me, I quote you: " Comedians in search of a laugh should really know better than to snicker about men having sex with teenage girls (or young women) less than half their age."
Tell me please, how would you do that? Do you think it is an easy job? Do you think he wants to have lower ratings? No, as everyone, he defends his own interest, and it is very hard. So if you think you could do that, do that because you'll be wealthy. But if you don't, don't give advices to comedians to say how to do their job. If you can sue him, do it. But he's not doing anything illegal, anything inmoral( and here we would be discussing forever, I don't think he is doing inmoral joke, the girls have the opportunity to look better in the future, and he, or whoever, can say if he likes or not, so I think the disrespect is from you), just stay away from this man. He makes other people laugh. And he always does.

  • DAVID LETTERMAN'S HATE, ETC. !

David Letterman's hate is as old as some ancient Hebrew prophets.
Speaking of anti-Semitism, it's Jerry Falwell and other fundy leaders who've gleefully predicted that in the future EVERY nation will be against Israel (an international first?) and that TWO-THIRDS of all Jews will be killed, right?
Wrong! It's the ancient Hebrew prophet Zechariah who predicted all this in the 13th and 14th chapters of his book! The last prophet, Malachi, explains the reason for this future Holocaust that'll outdo even Hitler's by stating that "Judah hath dealt treacherously" and "the Lord will cut off the man that doeth this" and asks "Why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother?"
Haven't evangelicals generally been the best friends of Israel and Jewish persons? Then please explain the recent filthy, hate-filled, back-stabbing tirades by David Letterman (and Sandra Bernhard) against a leading evangelical named Sarah Palin, and explain why most Jewish leaders have seemingly condoned Palin's continuing "crucifixion"!
While David and Sandra are tragically turning comedy into tragedy, they are also helping to speed up and fulfill the Final Holocaust a la Zechariah and Malachi, thus helping to make the Bible even more believable!

  • Although I'm not a Letterman fan, I'm suddenly very interested in Regina Lasko (who I had never even heard of before this week). I have found some interesting pictures and articles, I'm sure Dave will understand. Really is an interesting story. Dating since '89, living together since '01 and a blog that thinks she looks like Bill Paxton. http://minx.cc/?post=288358

Although there was this story from 2007:
"Once on the Letterman show while grilling Demi Moore about her latest romance, she turned the tables on him prying into his personal life with Regina Lasko. He squirmed and said “”Nobody cares. I feel like I’ve been punk’d”" http://celebrity.rightpundits.com/?p=2034

Now I'm sure some people will develop an obsession with his son (beyond his name, his age and the story about the kidnapping thing) but not me. If that urge surfaces, I will immediately seek help cause that's just weird and creepy.

  • Well better late than never, I'm glad NOW spoke up (finally) and that was a fair shot about Rush Limbaugh re Chelsea Clinton -- he was brutal to her. But, I wonder if Letterman would still be on the air if he had said the same thing about Obama's daughters, or wife.

  • Where was NOW last Autumn when Governor Palin and her family were being media-mauled by the minute prior to the election? Where was NOW when Sandra Bernhard wished for "shiksa bitch" Palin to be raped by gangs of feral negroes should she dare to step foot in NYC? I guess that since the election is over and that NOW & the LA Times' "magic negro" is safely ensconced in office it has once again found its voice - a voice that was so stridently silent prior to election day?
