Hey, fat boy, new ObamaCare law is keeping an eye on you

obamacare body mass records

George Washington didn’t care how if your ancestors were packing a few extra pounds. Neither did Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, nor even LBJ. And Bill Clinton definitely didn’t care.

But Barack Obama? He wants to know how fat each and every American is. In fact, he demands to know.

CNSnews.com has the disturbing dietary details:

New federal regulations issued this week stipulate that the electronic health records — that all Americans are supposed to have by 2014 under the terms of the stimulus law that President Barack Obama signed last year — must record not only the traditional measures of height and weight, but also the Body Mass Index: a measure of obesity.

The obesity-rating regulation states that every American’s electronic health record must: “Calculate body mass index. Automatically calculate and display body mass index (BMI) based on a patient’s height and weight.”

The law also requires that these electronic health records be available — with appropriate security measures — on a national exchange.

Remarkable. Would you be surprised if this administration begins issuing tickets and assessing fines for being overweight?

Is 2012 here yet?

  • Quote: In the United States, where medical underwriting of private health insurance plans is widespread, most private health insurance providers will use a particular high BMI as a cut-off point in order to raise insurance rates for or deny insurance to higher-risk patients, thereby reducing the cost of insurance coverage to all other subscribers in a 'normal' BMI range. The cutoff point is determined differently for every health insurance provider and different providers will have vastly different ranges of acceptability. Many will implement phased surcharges, in which the subscriber will pay an additional penalty, usually as a percentage of the monthly premium, for each arbitrary range of BMI points above a certain acceptable limit, up to a maximum BMI past which the individual will simply be denied admissibility regardless of price. This can be contrasted with group insurance policies which do not require medical underwriting and where insurance admissibility is guaranteed by virtue of being a member of the insured group, regardless of BMI or other risk factors that would likely render the individual inadmissible to an individual health plan. • I agree with you our country is fat and Un healthy and we have a right to be fat and ignorant if we choose ! Let our families get sick, die or go broke paying for it. The food, hospitals, insurance companies & pharmaceutical companies became billion $$$$ entities off our fat asses and now pay politicians keep it that way. I have more respect for some one that wants to kill me and take all my money than someone that wants to insure my health and create and industry out of health verse disease& obesity. Its the American way be fat be dumb and drink beer dammit Don't change that! ... make a good living off fat ass sick citizens. I just have one question ... why aren't the CEO's of those same corporations sick obese or dumb or broke ? just us ? They eat organic their kids go to the best schools and they have all my money...mmmmmm
Effects of being over weight :
genes, endocrine disorders, medications or psychiatric illness
    In children alone Obesity Disease
    #1: Heart Disease,Obesity disease
    #2: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Obesity Disease #3: Diabetes (Type 2).
Obesity Disease #4: Dyslipidemia. This is a major fast food obesity related disease, which results because of abnormally high trygliceride and LDL cholesterol levels. Dyslipidemia eventually leads to obesity heart disease.
    Obesity Disease #5: Sleep Apnea.
Obesity Disease #6: Blount’s Disease. This disorder occurs when an excessive amount of weight gets placed on growing bones, making it more prevalent in children. This is especially the case with the lower part of the body.
    Obesity Disease #7: Arthritis.
    Obesity Disease #8: Respiratory Problems.
Obesity Disease #9: Stroke. When the arteries, which carry blood to the brain, get blocked,
    Obesity Disease #10: Liver Damage.

Now what you should be concerned about is a president that doesn't care...
I agree with you why does he care let your fat families get sick, die and spend your life earnings paying for it you don't deserve for any one to help or encourage you stay healthy.

    • Why do I need anyone to encourage me to be healthy? I'm not stupid - I know when my weight is becoming a problem. I want a government that backs off and lets me take care of myself and my family as I see fit, not one that tells me when I'm fat and when I'm not. Personally, my body type is such that the weight I like myself best at is one that is over where the typical weight chart says I should be. I don't give a flying fart what a chart or scale says - I'm going with how my clothes fit and how I feel.

  • Body Mass Index is a very shaky tool for evaluating obesity. One may weigh within the normal BMI range, but if the weight is mostly fat, it is unhealthy. Conversely, if one is over the recommended BMI, but is an athelte, or retains a large amount of water weight (like heart patients, kidney patients, etc) then they are not really obese. This is a crock. They have my height on most records. I get weighed every appointment. Figure out you own BMI and leave me alone. This is like Diabetes. 1970's, a normal fasting blood suger was 60-110 or 70-120, dependant upon the measuring system used by the lab. Now if you have a fasting sugar above 100, you ae diabetic. No wonder its appears to be increasing! Not to mention better treatment means more people are surviving to reproduce the gene, and our population of racial groups more likely to develop diabetes is increasing. Duh!

  • The majority of the obese in this country are the lower income folks, who also happen to make up the the political base for the Dumocrats. Is Comrade Obama turning on his own people? Also, the BMI discriminates against people who are in good shape. Muscle does weigh more than fat.

    • I wish that was true but its completely not factual at all most of the bible belt is fat white and republican ... sorry we are pretty bad off just look around.

      • So what the Bible belt is the only group in America that votes? I see New York, DC, LA, Chicago all have a great many people who are overweight. And frequently they are the food stamp recipients who eat mostly processed foods because they are cheap. I live in South Texas. A large percentage areoverweight, even obese. And most of them are Hispanic, with a diet high in carbs and fat, minimal in veggies. It is only in the last 50 or so years that America has become increasingly overweight. Right along with the sale of sodas, chips, and other cheap snack foods. Maybe they should hit up those companies to change their formulations! Or at least be honest about their nutrutional information (like a bag of chips may look ok until you relaize the single serving bag is really 2.5 servings)

        • Bush Administration (FDA) tried that in 2004: they asked food manufacturers to comply with certain regulations when determining serving-size. I don't know what compliance level is

Serving sizes still seem jacked in many places.

CDC says South is most obese. Midwest too. I did not know this, but non-whites are significantly more obese. NE & West are least obese. This is BMI though.

          • And the South and midwest have been hit the hardest in the last decade or two in job loss, income reduction and lack of affordable medical care. Do I think some people should just back away from the table and take a walk? SUre, but the weight problmes in this country are multilevel, and knowing someone's BMI is like testing a child not learning. It is obvious-the child's knowlege level will be abusmal, and the perosn whose BMI is 35 will be fat. At the Doctor, a Ht of 5'&" weighing in at 240 (and not because of muscle) will be fat. Period.

  • It's all about control and money. If the healthcare providers (IRS) know everyone's BMI they can charge fat people more for free healthcare. Also, they can turn around and control what people eat by the taking over (creating more regulation) of the food industry in the name of helping people live longer lives and lowering healthcare costs. Of course, their regulations will help friends of theirs in the food industry by weakening competitors. And I think we all know how this works by now.

    • Umm I see education is last on your list lol
If the healthcare providers (IRS) know everyone’s BMI they can charge fat people more for free healthcare.

Lol Free is free .... lol

      • No... nothing in this life is truly free, especially when it concerns the government. Someone somewhere is going to pay for this healthcare and in more ways than just cash.

      • Actually free is NEVER free. Someone has to pay at some point. Education is supposedly being covered at every doctor visit now. Having audited those records for insurance, I can assure you that the education piece is NOT being done. I have diabetics who have no clue about the effects of carbohydrate on their blood sugars, who were told "just watch what you eat." I have patients on blood thinners who do not know there are certain foods they may need to avoid. Get out of your basement and look around at the TRUTH of what is going on out there.

      • No, not dramatic... accurate. Have you look up the meaning of the word?

        TYRANNY: (NOUN)

        1. a. government by a tyrant or tyrants; despotism
        b. similarly oppressive and unjust government by more than one person
        2. arbitrary, unreasonable, or despotic behaviour or use of authority: the teacher's tyranny
        3. any harsh discipline or oppression: the tyranny of the clock
        4. a political unit ruled by a tyrant
        5. (esp in ancient Greece) government by a usurper
        6. a tyrannical act

These measures are or can be oppressive to A GREAT NUMBER OF PEOPLE who are not the same and each would like to have control over their own lives. It is unreasonable because like I said not everyone is the same and you cannot expect everyone to react to the one size fits all the govt tends to do... and it is also harsh. This degree of control is not appropriate. There is a thing called personal responsibility look that up.

        • I would take a suggestion from conservative brethren in the U.K. and just call it a Nanny State. Its probably as effective, in terms of rhetoric.

Tyranny should be reserved for those governments responsible for the bloody pogroms of Jews, the forced resettlements of populations, for genocide & religious oppression, or the systemic oppression, rape, and violent punishment of women and girls. Ask a man who swam rivers at night--to escape Hungary in 1956--what Tyranny is.

We fought tyranny in Iraq and we are fending it off in Afghanistan. Any soldier would agree on this consensus. We do NOT fight tyranny everywhere on the planet, and I'm not sure we have the capacity. Nor do not think any soldier would desire war against a calculation-based-on-height-and-weight.

I've had family members in the ER & ICU a couple times within the last year, and I can't tell you how many times i was asked the same questions over and over because hospitals don't know how to keep or transfer a file. Nurses and doctors clearly were not always communicating issues with medication interactions or allergies. I welcome a mandate for common medical information being easily transferable between the various agents of healthcare. It will reduce costs, latency, and opportunities for mistakes.. This is common sense regulation

And fatties, take notice: you are costing the system money. I don't need to "look up personal responsibility". I keep my weight down by running 15-20 miles a week, and by sane portion control

          • Where do you stand on HIV/AIDS? Completely preventable since it's contracted through risky/careless behavior. Also, how come we have to cut back on spending for our vets, but we always have money for illegals? Now tell me about waste.

Liberalism:Ideas so good they need to be mandatory.
            Andrew Wilkow

          • Maybe, America's vets should be taken care of, PERIOD. America's illegal population should get nothing, except a 1 way ticket home with a deportation order. Who pays for them when they don't pay at the ER? Who pays for their children to go to school? Plus why are they getting In State Tutition rates?

          • Please don't tell me what to post and how to post it... you see in many ways that is a bit despotic... you know trying to control another person's point of view and their speech. You don't own me, nor do you know me, nor do I acquiesce to you nor do you direct my thoughts nor my speech. Stop trying. Which brings me back to the point at hand, people any type of person ESPECIALLY when they are in government trying to control BEHAVIORS (and even thought and speech) of even just one person is a tyrant. Trying to control what people eat can lead to other methods on control on other behaviors. It will never end and hence the term tyranny will still and more heavily apply. Parents can be tyrants in their homes, leaders can be tyrants in their communities. I guess being a liberal you want to rationalize what tyranny is as per your view, okay fine, but again don't tell me how to feel or post because you are actually doing the same thing you are rationalizing about.

          • Certainly don't recall telling you what to post, nor have I claimed to own you. You needn't be afraid or concerned about such things. And like I've already said, calling me a liberal won't make me one. it doesn't matter how much you try

          • Trust me "fear" and you do not belong in my mind nor feelings. I cannot be afraid of an insignificant person that has nothing to do with me. As far as the liberal moniker... I can call you Progressive or socialist if you prefer... but in any case whatever moniker you like it doesn't matter in the end I think troll is just as adequate and I have made it my mind not to feed trolls anymore. Bye troll!

          • The repetitive questioning is not just because a hospital can't keep a file. Believe me, we have more paperwork than the average secretary in addition to providing patient care. The questioning is sometimes to be certain about something, like meds taken at home, or the last hospitalization. Also, especially in a teaching hospital, there are different levels of MD's and Nurses, as well as techs. They all have collect their own histories. And sometimes, because everyone questions differently, an important piece of information comes to light that no-one had thought to tell us before. You have all heard the stories about errors made. Wouldn't you prefer that we ask?

      • If people want to be fat and dumb that is their problem, it is not mine and it is definetly not the government's. If people want to be slaves to pharma let them be. NOT EVERYONE IS THE SAME OR ALIKE (not screaming just emphasis) and therefore the one size fits all approach that is the government is not going to work. There is a thing called personal responsibility... read about it... it will open your eyes. What works for others will not work for me and it is up to me to find out what would work for me and my health... not the government.

        • The point is that if they have height and weight, they can figure out BMI. But BMI does not take into consideration people who are in really great shape, but weigh heavier because of muscle. How do you figure BMI on a paraplegic? How do you establish height? Do you weigh the non functional legs that will have minimal muscle? If the really want to track obesity, there are scales that measure weight, percentage of body fat, percentage of water. That would be more accurate. Is a congestive healt failure patient obese because they are retaining 15 lbs of fluid?

          • Agree with you totally on the height/weight BMI being a practically useless tool.

I actually use the pinch/caliper method which works very well. I've found the BMI scales to be too random and easily thrown off by how wet or dry your feet are.

  • Hmm, the same people who want to make it a capital offense to eat a cheesburger, but want to pass out free needles to addicts; who think burying a woman up to her armpits and stoning her head is freedom of religion but kick over a creche at the mall; and who think wondering why several middle eastern men buying a one way ticket to Austin at the same time they purchased seven quarts of fertilizer and zippo lighter is racial profiling; now don't think its intrusive to broadcast how fat someone is to potential employers, candidates on e harmony, and insurance companies. No illogic here.

    • What are you talking about lol are you nuts o ! Look around just open your eyes when you go out side and look around... Fat Fat Fat now go look up what health conditions it causes okay now read about all the American men in the last 10 years that have killed their wives okay now look up how many Catholic Priest have rapped little boys .... okay now let talk for real..it doesn't matter what you believe in, what your policies are don't be completely void of truth fighting against what is a fact and has been a fact way before the President took office.. WE ARE FAT AS HE@#@! IN THIS COUNTRY ! AND ON EVERY DAM MED THEY SELL ITS NOT NEW NEWS WAKE UP.

      • Remember Marilyn Monroe? The sex-pot of the 50's? The woman everyone thought was maybe the finest example of womanhood of the time? Crazy, but beautiful? She wore a size 10. Today the goal is a size 2 or 4. We no longer can look at body build with a "normal" eye. Our vision has been adulterated by a society that says everyone must be thinner, ever thinner. I recomment the Steven King story THINNER for your reading pleasure and to hopefully snap you out of you hypnotic state.

      • I'm guessing if a Catholic priest "rapped" a little boy they were mis-behaving. Spare the rod or spoil the child.

Nuns rap little boys on the knuckles when they mis-behave. They do it to the girls too.

        :P
