There’s probably a big, collective sigh of relief today among the cast and crew of NBC’s Football Night In America. MSNBC’s obnoxious Keith Olbermann is out.

Multiple media and network television sources confirmed to me Thursday that Keith Olbermann will not appear on NBC’s Football Night In America Sunday evening NFL broadcasts this season.
Some members of the FNIA cast and crew were made aware of the news Monday at a preseason production meeting in New York City. Afterwards, the cast and crew adjourned to Yankee Stadium to watch the Yankees-Blue Jays game.
And they probably hoisted more than a few beers to celebrate the departure of the widely-disliked Olbermann.

Looks like GE finally pulled their collective heads out of their asses and dropped the non playing loud mouth Olbermann from its Sunday Show. Finally I can watch the show and not wish to puke my Sunday dinner up and out all over the TV Screen.

The last time I can remember actually watching Olberman on tv is back when he was paired with Dan Patrick on the 6 & 11(i think) Sportscenter. NBC probably was trying to recapture what they did back then. Dan Patrick has as far as I know remained a Sports Guy. Everyone knows what Olberman has done.

Without a single doubt, that is the best news I've read in months! What were they thinking at NBC?? What could possibly be more blue-collar-conservative than football? And then to put this stupid died in the wool liberal up there? Sheesh. It would be like opening a beautiful museum, with the Mona Lisa inside, and putting a turd in front of it.
On behalf of turds everywhere, I resent the comparison to Keith Olbermann.

Let me put a question. "Who was worse, Olby, or Tony Cornhusker on ESPN?"
Well, Olbermann was pretty good at what he did back in the day at ESPN. He and Dan Patrick did the buddy-co-anchor thing better than anyone before or since. But, as happens with people in the media (and other jobs, too), Olbermann apparently mistook his popularity for some sort of popular mandate, making it his civic duty to share his opinions on everything with everyone. Clever use of words made his sportscasts entertaining, but people were tuning in primarily for what he was talking about, not what he was saying. Of course, MSNBC made the same mistake.
Now Kornheiser had moved from reporter to columnist long before he went into radio and TV, so where he made his mark was giving his opinions and perspectives. Taking that from a local audience in DC to a national one is the way things are often done - think Howard Stern, Tom Joyner, even Katie Couric started in local TV. Tony might have been a little overexposed, but ESPN/ABC has done that before, too (remember how they killed the golden goose that was "Millionaire").
I haven't listened to or watched TK in awhile, but while he's made little secret of his 60s college radical roots, and several of his regular guests are on the DNC's Christmas, er, holiday card list, Tony has mostly stuck to sports and entertainment issues for giving his opinions. If that's changed since the '08 election, that would be unfortunate.
Still, I'd rather be on a cross-country bus trip with Kornheiser than Olbermann. Although Laura Ingraham would trump either of them.
Somehow, the MSM will label this as a job saved or created. Somehow.
