We really are torn on the Greenpeace vs. Japanese whaler issue. On one hand, there’s really seems to be no good reason to slaughter whales. On the other hand, Greenpeace opposes it, so we tend to root for the whalers.
This video shows the Greenpeace lunatics putting their boat, the S.S. Minnow Sea Shepherd, directly in the path of a large Japanese security ship. The Japanese need the security ships, by the way, to prevent harassment from the Greenpeace lunatics during whaling operations. The security ship “shoots” the protesters with high-pressure hoses to keep it at bay.
Naturally, the Greenpeacers now claim that they were “rammed.”
In a technical sense, it may be true since one ship did, in fact, hit the other one. But it ignores (a) the fact that the smaller boat put itself directly in the path of the larger ship, and (b) the fact that the 491-ton Shonan Maru 2 (maximum speed 12 knots) could outmaneuver Greenpeace’s nimble 13-ton, 45-knot trimaran.
Far as we’re concerned, the optimum outcome of these situations would be if the whales all got away, but the Greenpeace boats didn’t.
Anyone out there ever eat whale meat? Does it taste anything like chicken?

I'm sorry I'm with the Japanese on this one. They eat whales and I'll support the dirty hippies when Americans can be forced to stop eating any meat not farmed. I also hope the Japanese have some kind of 'accident' that results in the death of the hippy terrorists.
The Japanese are a race of barbaric bastards. They kill whales for money and anyone that believes they do it for research are ignorant fools. I wish Paul Watson could sink everyone of the whaling ships and the little yellow sons of bitchs to the bottom of the sea.
Bob Barker donated five million to one of these boats. Sorry if it was mentioned just went through it quickly. The price is right Bob Barker in case anyone is wondering. Saw him on Fox and Friends. Sounded a bit like a nut. I was slightly dissapointed.
HEY WTF MAN
how are you torn? the japs dont whale for no reason, they whale for food, and products which make them money to buy food
you want a REALLY good and entertaining explanation? watch "whale whores" on south park studios, it seems pro hippie at first, but gives a great payoff at the end.
something not mentioned though, that i find relevant, and everyone needs to know
the japanese have been whaling for longer than captain ahab, and the populations do not suffer, some people made a big fuss about a village in japan that every year hunts dolphins, claiming that they will make dolphins extinct
only that village has hunted dolphins for thousands of years, and the populations never suffers by it
I believe Phil is correct, these idiots are not members of Greenpeace because their leader (though he was a founder of Greenpeace was tossed out of Greenpeace for being too violent). However, like it or not, the Japanese are issued permits by The International Whaling Commission. Somehow I doubt these permits would be issued if the species of whale being hunted were endangered. ala Jacques-Yves Cousteau who advocated all sport fishing of any kind be outlawed. Hey, I love my time fishing ya stupid dead frog:)
These anti-whalers are nothing more than terrorists of the worst kind. Instead of using water and sound cannons, I would use a something more effective that would send them to meet their makers. The country from which they originate should arrest them for International Terror on the high seas.
Nope, they are terrorists and get no sympathy from me. Got a complaint? Take it up with the The International Whaling Commission.
That is the score so far this season but according to Paul Watson, the founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, his organisation has actually sunk 10 Whalers to date. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Shepherd_Conservation_Society#Controversial_tactics
Not that I necessarily believe Watson's claims, but if they are true then the total score should be Sea Shepherd Conservation Society 10 Whalers 1.
Maybe I'm confused but I thought the Whalers had changed there name to the Hurricanes when they moved to Raliegh, North Carolina fom Hartford, Connecticut.
All the same perhaps the Whalers are doing us a favor considering the theat of AGW. After all does anyone know how much methane a whale emits annually. Clearly we need to study whale methane emissions much like they have on cows. http://earthfirst.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/cow-farts.jpg
Perhaps the Japanese will consider this method for next year when they head to the Southern Ocean to conduct further scientific whale hunts. Who knows perhaps 10 Humpbacks, properly harnessed, can power both the Japanese whaling fleet and the Sea Shepherd's boats which aren't sitting on the bottom of the ocean.
They're not from Greenpeace. The Sea Shepherds were founded by a guy that was an early member of Greenpeace, but left after a disagreement. If you get a chance, check out "Whale Wars" on Animal Planet. If you know anything about seamanship, you will be amazed by their ineptitude. The video shot from the Japanese ship shows the Ady Gil maneuvering in the path of the larger ship much more clearly.
Sweet!! In addition to building fantastic electronics (Nikon)and even better motocross bikes (Yamaha) they run over Greenpeace boats. Viva Japan!!
The Greenpeace pirates were betting that the Japanese wouldn't run them over, and the Japanese were betting that they wouldn't let themselves be run over.
I'd say that was chicken FAIL all the way around.
It is sort of a cross between bald eagle, white rhino, california condor, and siberian tiger...hard to pin a specific taste to it-but make a stew of all of the above, and you are close. I suggest however, hors d'ourvers of the condor and bald eagle, and the stew of the rest. You really don't want to lose the delicate nuances the eagle and condor have to offer. I also wholly suggest snowy owl too-though we just catch them, tear off their wings and eat those-the rest isn't very good-but the wing meat is delectable!
