We really are torn on the Greenpeace vs. Japanese whaler issue. On one hand, there’s really seems to be no good reason to slaughter whales. On the other hand, Greenpeace opposes it, so we tend to root for the whalers.
This video shows the Greenpeace lunatics putting their boat, the S.S. Minnow Sea Shepherd, directly in the path of a large Japanese security ship. The Japanese need the security ships, by the way, to prevent harassment from the Greenpeace lunatics during whaling operations. The security ship “shoots” the protesters with high-pressure hoses to keep it at bay.
Naturally, the Greenpeacers now claim that they were “rammed.”
In a technical sense, it may be true since one ship did, in fact, hit the other one. But it ignores (a) the fact that the smaller boat put itself directly in the path of the larger ship, and (b) the fact that the 491-ton Shonan Maru 2 (maximum speed 12 knots) could outmaneuver Greenpeace’s nimble 13-ton, 45-knot trimaran.
Far as we’re concerned, the optimum outcome of these situations would be if the whales all got away, but the Greenpeace boats didn’t.
Anyone out there ever eat whale meat? Does it taste anything like chicken?
