Pat Robertson brought conservatives and liberals together in a way that Barack Obama has failed to do. Both sides agree that his comments about Haitians’ “deal with the devil” were pretty wacky. But, we trust, no wackier than his belief in anthropogenic global warming.

So, why dismiss Rev. Robertson as a loony if in fact the pact with the devil did happen? Who cares about hurt feelings??? If my kid is sticking his finger into a pencil sharpener over and over again, yet can't figure out why it's bleeding and won't heal, best course of action is to speak the truth in love - Hey dumby, quit sticking your finger in the sharpener!!! not very pc, I know. If the forefathers of Haiti made a pact with the devil for freedom from the French, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out (even though a lot of NASA's scientists are not held in high regard with regard to AGW) A pact with the devil ensures you will be a big loser. It's akin to bringing a curse on your children - the price is paid for in blood. If the religion of the country- santeria/voodoo - has not brought blessings upon the land, maybe just maybe there is something to this whole pact with the devil thing. Ever notice how these religions outside of Christianity enslave their followers??? Just sayin'. In his defense or in defense of his (Patterson) organization they do provide MASSIVE amounts of tangible aid to disaster zones (like Katrina) and in this case as well. They mobilized to send aid not just funds to Haiti and the people. I havent heard Sharpton sending anything and did Danny Glover sent his OWN money there? So my point is that yes he may say looney things but he or at least his organization mobilizes to help people too which is more than a lot of these other idiots do.
Yeah, let's pile on Pat Robertson. Doesn't matter if what he said is based in fact. If in fact the witch doctor Boukam did lead his followers to make a pact with the devil in exchange for victory over the french, that would explain so much of it's last 200 years. Prior to the slave revolt, Haiti was one of the richest places in the carribean. Unfortunately, the french built it with slaves. So explain to me why Haiti went downhill after it declared independence from the french? Why did they not see the fruits of the land as the french had? could it be that they brought a curse on themselves? Yet on the other side of the island, the Dominican Republic seems to be doing just fine. You can choose to reject the truth of the matter, but look at every nation that embraces pagan religions, they are backward cesspools and their governments tend to be corrupt.
John 10:10 says that "the thief comes to steal, kill and destroy, but I came that you might have life and have it to the full". Those aren't my words, they are Jesus' words. What has happened is tragic. And if you bothered to watch the whole clip of Mr. Robertson, you would have also noted that his organization has ALREADY SENT AID to Haiti and was raising more funds for more aid. Not too concerned about hurt feelings at this point, a good dose of truth might just lead to freedom for that nation. pc thought right now will just lead to more suffering.
The leaders have no fear of G-d and sadly that trickles down to the populace. I do believe that ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING can happen to anyone and in any place, however usually when things happens a lot and a nation is kept backwards you have to ask yourself what is missing and many times that is what is missing. It is just that it wasn't necessarily the right thing to say at that particular point in time or else it didn't come out as compassionate but as I typed below, that organization sent in the past and is still sending massive amounts of aid to Haiti.
The difference is that Robertson blamed the generations of the past and the present for their troubles whereas Danny Glover blamed the entire world and its inhabitants for what happened so I am guessing Danny Glover will be attaboyed whereas Robertson will be repudiated. And both just gave their opinions...

I appreciate your commentary as always KimmyQueen. Haiti is a very sad and complicated tale. Perhaps America could simply declare sovereignty over Haiti, and adopt it - you know like the highly publicized adoptions of those poor little African orphans that Madonna and that Angelina woman do.
But seriously, if we were to adopt Haiti, like we did Puerto Rico, they might be a lot better off.
Think about it. A UN Protectorate? It has precedence and we could directly administer the aid, employ thousands of Americans to teach, indoctrinate and govern the locals. And it could provide a real honest smug self satisfaction to our liberal folk that its for their own good.
I wish Robertson and Sharpton would both disappear under a rock somewhere, never to be seen again.
