House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called a Capitol Hill press conference Wednesday to unveil new light fixtures in the House cafeteria. The light fixtures cost $140,000 and will take almost 10 years to pay off in saved energy.
Ten years. The payoff on this is going to take ten friggin’ years. Got that? The story continues:
Ayers said that the new light fixtures and window shades were installed in the cafeteria, located in the basement of the Rayburn House Office Building, because the LED [light emitting diode] light fixtures have become much less expensive.
“It’s now becoming much more affordable, so we’re sort of kicking the tires on it for the moment. It seems to work terrific. It’s got great energy savings, and it’s got – we think – great lighting quality, and the price of the light fixtures just in the last year has come down significantly.”
Of course, we’re just swimming in spare cash right now, so this is the perfect time for Pelosi to blow $140,000 on light bulbs that will take ten years to pay for themselves.
Dim bulb. And make no mistake, when we say that we’re referring to the Speaker herself.

I love LED lighting. In the remodeling of some rooms in my house I going all LED. That lighting alone will be close to $7k. Not for bulbs but for nearly invisible 'strip lighting' that runs over and below the cabinets and around the border of the ceiling. Cool stuff! Super bright and very fashionable.
I am glad to see that Pelosi chose LEDs over those toxic and less efficient mercury filled CFBs. LEDs give off a better quality of light and are just cool.
Oh, wait... She did not pay for it using her own dough? I change my mind. THAT IS A TOTALLY BAD FU*KING IDEA! Stop using money that is not your own on an expense that is ultimately unwarranted!
Energy savings? I don't care... Those lights I am putting in will last about 15 years and still be bright. That is why I chose them even though they are expensive. All that 'going green' power saving will be sucked up and nullified by all the new media devices and computer gear I am installing. Those items as super power hungry. So what, since it is not tax payer money but private cash that is footing the bill.
News flash for Madame Speaker: LIGHTING DOES NOT ACCOUNT FOR THE ENERGY COSTS OF A PUBLIC MODERN BUILDING AS MUCH AS YOU THINK! Most areas already use sh*tty but somewhat efficient (contrasted to incandescent bulbs) fluorescent tubes. So the savings by using LEDs is only about 13% more at most (there are different variables to that). Sure you can take out the ballast and that saves more: So what? You are not lighting the area 24/7 365 so the savings are not that amazing.
I love LEDs. Spending almost $150k of tax payer money on a technology that in just 3 years would drop that cost down to about $65k or way less is not acceptable however. What they had there with the old lights, aside from the cosmetic advantage (which is why so many people love LEDs over other lighting options- RGB color change models, cool white, warm white color temperatures: They look great!) over fluorescent tubes, was FINE and did not needed to be upgraded at this time.
Then again she spent $110k in food and drink charges on her private jet to go to EU territory. She is not in saving money so long as other people pay the tab!
You want to save money Nancy? Leave the stupid lights alone and just repeal Obamacare on your own volition! A cool trillion plus is savings right there!

Whatever they did it cost the tax paying citizens about 60% more then it should have... Yeah, I bet they tossed them instead of recycling them (which is VERY expensive BTW. If you buy that 'carbon footprint' BS you know that a florescent bulb is not cheap to properly dispose of. It takes a lot of transportation cost and a lot of energy to do that process. Let's see Greenpeace hype that truth!)
and the manure that they produce will stop festering in the sun and letting off those fumes that seem to be emanating from there
If we change the expensive, innefficient leadership of the house and senate we'll save lots more money and stop global warming by reducing the hot air eminating from the capital..
