The Editor wasn’t alone. Turns out most people found something else to do while the President conducted his annual lie fest.
Nielsen.com has the details:
On Tuesday, January 25, 2011 President Obama delivered his State of the Union address. The address was carried live from approximately 9:00 PM- 10:15 PM on 11 networks. The sum of the average audience for those networks was 42,789,947 viewers, with a combined household rating of 26.6. The networks carrying the address included ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, TEL, UNI, CNN, Centric, CNBC, FOXNC, and MSNBC. Viewership to last night’s address was down 18% from his address on February 24, 2009 and down 11% from his State of the Union address last year on January 27, 2010.
The trend is not the President’s friend. In 2009 drew 52,000,000 viewers and a 32.5 rating. In 2010 he rounded up 48,000,000 and a 29.8 rating. In 2011, it fell to 43,000,000 viewers and a 26.6 rating.
Unfortunately, the President’s ratings seem to be following the same trajectory as the economy.

I have a valid reason why I didn't watch... I have a life. It is short and it means something to me and if I can avoid garbage I will. Besides I am not getting paid to watch crap, so not going to waste my life.
Atta girl KQ! Why do you think I visited my local club, which I am a member and officer of, to party a bit, visit with friends, and flirt with the ladies. It was much more fun than listening to more lies so close to the end of the elections. Especially after having to listen to all the lies for 2 years before the elections.

He was on TV? Hm, I guess it was that time of year again.
I listened to it while coding (deadlines loom). Then i listened to Ryan and Bachmann. No drinking, no comedic hobbies otherwise engaged in. No American Idol either, which appeared to be SOTU's biggest competetion. Any of those viewers here? That would strike me odd.

I did what every hotblooded young(ish) American was doing - Playing an MMO and trying to level up my character.
I, however, did go over to PJTV and listen to the rebuttals. (The Republican one set out good goals, the other one was just...weird.)
I went to my local Eagle Aerie to shoot some pool, drink a few beers and oogle the single ladies. The Obummer will never top the State of the State speech by our new Governor so why bother with him. Drinking and flirting seemed to be the thing to do instead.
I had to harvest my crops in Farmville - I have my priorities. :)
