Funny, but not so funny: Reuters reports that rise in jobless claims is “unexpected”

As expected, Reuters reports yesterday that the latest rise in jobless claims is “unexpected.”

The number of Americans filing new claims for unemployment aid unexpectedly edged higher last week, stoking fears of a stalled economic recovery even as a separate report showed record exports in April.

Initial claims for state jobless benefits increased 1,000 to 427,000, the Labor Department said. However, economists polled by Reuters had forecast claims dropping to 415,000 from a previously reported count of 422,000.

There are none so blind as those who will not see bad news during a Democrat administration.

That’s in the bible, you know.

  • "Unexpected", that word has gotten a real workout in the MSM since January of 2009. Unexpected declines in housing values, unexpected increases in unemployment, unexpected increases in utility rates, unexpected increases in food prices, unexpected increases in commodity prices, etc.

...we can expect a lot more "unexpecteds" as the Obama administration lurches from one economic and foreign policy disaster to another.

    • Man Elrond, you stole my thunder! You even said it better that I would have. Too bad I can only give you one thumbs up for this.

      • Yep, watching the media on this one is *exactly* like my new drinking game -- taking a chug every time one of the characters on teen mom or 16 & pregnant says "I didn't think."

It's good to know they serve the noble purpose of getting me pissed.

  • I wish I had one of those "experts" jobs where I could be wrong all the time and still keep my job.

  • As it turns out, people "unexpectedly" needed to buy groceries in this economy. I guess the current administration "unexpectedly" forgot about hindsight when they were fudging statistics for media release earlier this year.

  • This is a clear example of the mainstream media (in this case, Reuters) providing cover for Obama by using an adjective such as "unexpected."

    Yeah, right... "unexpected" my eye.

  • It's hard to see when one's head's up one's ass; unexpectedly, it's pretty dark in there.
