The media constantly regales us with tales of this President’s massive intellect. They explain away his many mistakes by saying his brain moves so fast that his mouth just can’t keep up.
Even Politico joined the parade Wednesday with this feeble explanation of why the man doesn’t know how old his daughter is:
President Obama, who has expressed his fears about his daughter Malia becoming a teenager next month, is apparently dreading her birthday so much that for a brief moment on Wednesday, he thought she had already turned 13.
See, it’s not that he doesn’t know how old his daughter is, it’s that he just can’t bear to think about it.
Let’s pause briefly to think about the howls of derision that would have descended upon George Bush if he had misstated the ages of his daughters.
OK, now let’s proceed.
At a press conference at the White House, Obama suggested that his daughters, who “generally finish their homework a day ahead of time,” could serve as role models for members of Congress.
“Malia’s 13, Sasha’s 10,” the president said, even though 12-year-old Malia still has a few days to go until her July 4 birthday. “It is impressive. They don’t wait until the night before. They’re not pulling all-nighters. They’re 13 and 10.”
Repeating it won’t make it true, President Obama. Kind of like telling us over and over again that the economy is growing thanks to your policies won’t make that true.

I don't mind the President making errors like this, sometimes it's difficult to remember everything about your kids, how many states there are in the Union or the difference between "tectonic" and "teutonic". But I just wish the same MSM that always gives Obama a pass on his gaffes would have extended the same courtesy to Sara Palin, George Bush, Dan Quayle or any politician with an "R" after his name.

Oh, stop whimpering. Calling one's daughter 13 a few days before her 13th birthday is pretty paltry, compared to some of Bush's more humorous verbal contortions.
Or compared to Palin's attempt to bluff her way through a description of Paul Revere's ride, when she clearly had NO idea what she was talking about ("ringin' those bells").
Or Dan Quayle's televised CORRECTION of someone else's (correct) spelling of the word "potato."
If you don't like Republicans making humor news with their gaffes, there's a simple solution: start supporting more intelligent, and/or better educated, candidates.

Absolutely Olivia, we expect stupid, uneducated Republicans to take verbal pratfalls. That's why it's shocking to see Obama, a graduate of Columbia Univsersity and Harvard Law, commit the same blunders.
CNN called it a flub. A common mistake for parents, especially within days of the birthday.

It might be because of his "youthful" indiscretions, or it could be that he just not the smartest man to ever be in the white house. I'm of the belief that its the combination of both.
Plus he's on vacation and can afford to have a set back or two.

Well, you guys must be REALLY hard up for legitimate criticism of the president, when you start trying to make a federal case out of him saying his daughter is 13 a few days before her birthday. :D

First off, in this country, potato is spelled without the "e" on the end. In other countries (the UK, etc) it has the "e", so both forms are correct.
To give a little backstory on the Quayle 'potatoe' incident, I will recount the story I read years after the brouhaha...
Dan Quayle said years later in an interview that at the school spelling bee, he was given the card(s) of words by a teacher (or mom) and when he came to the potato word, he noticed that it had the 'e' on the end. He decided not to bring it to the attention of the person, as there were cameras there obviously and he didn't want to embarrass the poor woman.
It very well could have been someone who was from another country that wrote the words out and that is the way the spell it. I have quite a few friends from the UK and Canada etc and they spell a lot of those words differently than we do in the US.
That's the point , if anyone else woukd've said 57 states in a speech , front page news , to discredit.

My father - who i was raised by, along w my white mother, to whom he was married - is black, and even though he's a liberal kook and a Jesse Jackson acolyte, he's the greatest dad in the world! however, too many blacks in this country fail to see the greatness of America and instead continue to blame whitey for everything that ails them, produce kids whose fathers are unknown, and perpetuate ignorance. i dont know gibs and ill bet most others here dont either, so i cant vouch for whether or not hes an asshole. however, what he said, unfortunately, isnt wrong. hes simply callin it like he and anyone who lives in a non-white neighborhood, like i do, sees it. its an unpleasant fact of life that most blacks reproduce out of wedlock. but stating the obvious doesnt make gibs an asshole, it makes him perceptive.

While it is true that there are many black men that have ducked their paternal responsibility, it is not a characteristic of being black, and implying that is so is characteristic of being an asshole, and I call it like I see it. It is a characteristic of being a morally undeveloped jerk. I work with and know many black men who are decent, caring men, excellent husbands and fathers.
It is morally wrong to say and do nothing when this sort of behavior is encountered, Far better to strongly express disapproval, and in so doing, support the people who are better than that.
I cannot control what people think -- nor do I want to. However, I can certainly help demonstrate what is acceptable behavior and what is not.

It does but there are ways to say it. Also Obama being black or half black (I am sure) has nothing to do with him forgetting his daughter's birthday. If anything Obama is to be commended for having children after marriage and being a present part of his daughter's lives. These two posts are non-sequiturs seeking to make a point where there is no legitimate point ot make. It was lowest denominator and unnecessary. There were many more clever ways to mock the guy without resulting to the color of his skin, which again had NOTHING to do with his actual gaffe. You are quite right to say that being half-black had nothing to do with Obango messing up his child's age. I was taking a swipe at the problem that we have in America with black children being born in families without fathers. Is it a problem? Yes it is. KQ, I know you are black and were not born in America, trust me when I say black men in America have no corner on being the only irresponsible dads in the U.S. It just that the statistics show a great disparity between black unwed mothers and white. There are lots a reasons for that, but one of them IS NOT that black men are somehow genetically predetermined to be absent fathers. That is not only racist but plainly ignorant of the facts. I couldn't agree more with that statement. I've seen enough of his character to know he is as big a loser as Jimmy Carter, and race has nothing to do with it.
