  • The President of the dead communist Che fan club gave us all a thumbs down... And I am still Happy Che is dead.. :)

  • Like a liberal celebrity is smart enough to know that Che was such an evil prick even Castro wanted him dead.

  • For the Che-loving celebs, it's not about cool, or about not realizing that their wealth would be gone under that kind of regime.

They know full well what the real story in Cuba is. And they are okay with it. Because these are people who are of an extraordinarily high opinion of themselves. They see "the masses" as a lower form of life who should be herded around by the likes of themselves. "The masses" don't really deserve the finer things in life because they are slobs, and can't truly appreciate fine dining, fine wine, art, nature, etc.

In the case of celebs, they don't realize that the elites of academia and the powerful pols do not see them as their intellectual peers. The celebs fall into the category of useful idiots.

      • This latest spat of her making the news is the first I've heard of her. Hard to say.

On the one hand, you can argue that they're all effin' idiots. Smart is knowing peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers are fruit. Intelligent is knowing you don't serve a pepper clafoutis for dessert. And all these characters are shoving cucumber crisps and tomato sundaes at us and telling us it's dessert.

But there is the question of power. Just off the top of my head, that may be the real difference. How exactly they get it? I don't really know.

My guess is that she's probably well-educated (meaning a long time in school), probably marginally "smart", and hasn't got even a dab of intelligence. But she's probably perceived as a good soldier who will follow the party line.

In a sense, they are all useful idiots, just that some are more so, more obviously so than others. Of course, the moment her usefulness is outlived or suspect, she's under the bus like a big-city mayor.

  • A couple years ago, I went to a country fair that attracts lots of hippies and hippy-wannabes. I was walking toward a kid, maybe 18yo, who wore that T-shirt and, to make the cheese more binding, a matching red beret. How precious! When we were close enough, I said in a normal speaking voice: Che Guevara was a sadistic butcher and anyone who idolizes him is a cretin. The kid got very tight-jawed and his facial color matched the shirt. He started screaming at me over at over just two words, and not Happy Birthday. While a small crowd started gawking at the lunatic, I just walked on with a big grin, thinking: My work here is done.

    • Wow, you found one that actually knew who "that cool looking dude t-shirt logo" was. I'd guess 65% of them think it's an image of Cesar Chavez or Juan Valdez.
The ones who know who it is che, don't have a clue what che was and what he did.

      • Yes, I have observed that kind. They say his name as CHAY GWEVAIRAH. Geez, kid, if you're going to smooch his dead posterior, at least learn how to pronounce his name correctly.
