y have posted this before but bears repeating. My last class befoire finally graduating was in 2010. I was the oldest student graduating. Anyway that was when Ocommiecare was being touted as the best thing since sex. The prof in one class was raving about how great it was going to be because he could keep his kids on his fully employer paid health insurance until they were 25. Just about student was agreeing on how great this was. (I kept my mouth shut, I already learned my lesson for criticizing socialism) Anyway, right after the class all the students were going to the rally protesting the high cost of tuition. Common sense and logic was not in evidence.
Years ago, when I was making the big money, I set up trust funds for my grandchildren so they would be able to go to college without having student loans or have to work to get by. I wanted them to get an education if they wanted it.
The grandson is a Marine, a granddaughter is in the Air Force, the last granddaughter has 3 more years of high school and is not sure what she wants to do. But, she is already thinking about the military as a career which is fine with me. I couldn't be more proud of the kids, they can buy a house or something with the money instead of wasting it on a useless education. Besides, the two in the military are getting the best education known to man, and they get paid while getting it!
I have the solution for high tuition.
Since all those professors are liberals/socialists, they should take less pay and benefits. After all, they make so much money now, they are close to becoming part of the 1% and they should act upon their beliefs, and make less.
College was originally designed to.increase knowledge and "well-roundedness" predominately in wealthy students. Many of those then got jobs, and were paid well. So your averagecfarmer's family decided ifvtheir kid could get a degree, he would have a bettrr life. If you didn't have the money, you could apply for scholarships and work. It was hard, and kids harassed the poor students, but therebyou have it. Then college Evolved to.being a job training program. And now its nothing but prestige in most cases. Someone with a degree in transgendered African Women's studies is unlikely to.guarantee a job.
A pair of lies were invented at some point: "In order to have a good life, EVERYONE needs higher education/higher degrees" and "We are above blue collar work". People believed the lies. People may not be able to afford higher education outright and/or people may not have the mental stamina to get worthwhile degrees and/or people who should go into more physical work (that still requires mental stamina) feel themselves entitled to "better" education...
So...
People take loans in order to attend schools that are the most fun and attractive, but not necessarily mentally stimulating that offers easy to get degrees. Many of these people (if not most) don't pay it back, so the lenders need to be bailed out by way of offering MORE loans that are less prohibitive to get in order for the schools to get more money to offer up for all the toys and useless degrees that are easier to get, to entice MORE students that probably shouldn't be going to college anyway (and should be doing something else) and they get loans that in the end won't be paid back, so the lenders need to be bailed out...
It is a vicious cycle...
Well we all know that today's students are going to be making a killing with those Affirmative Action studies degrees...Cleaning Toilets that is.
That's assuming they'll know which end of the toilet brush to use.

I wonder too why the tuition is so high. Not asking or expecting free but reasonable. Maybe the schools are now a big business and the profs and administrators are payed way too much and in many cases surely not worth it.
Not just tuition, I saved this link because it urinated me off when I was in school in the 80s (**HuffPo alert**, but accurate). You tell me who the greedy bastards are and who's cleaning up even today. If Universities had to compete and perform, half of them would go the way of Solyndra.

That might be because of the sale of used textbooks. They aren't making enough profit on new books, so they jacked up the prices.
That is part of the problem, the rest lies with administration. College deans, presidents, regents, whatever they call the clown running a university, get over $500,000 per year. Football and basketball coaches rake in over $1.5 million per year, especially if they field good teams and get some national attention. Colleges have become big businesses, where the higher ups rake in the cash while the students get screwed with higher tuitions.
I think the answer is in the video. They are not higher learning, they are higher versions of Club Med. Add in dept that generate nothing but more people to teach the subject and you end up with a spiraling cost structure.
The money is made available through the taxpayer funded student loan program, so SOMEBODY has to end up with it.

The answer is a feedback loop where business get tax credits for scholarship money for degrees and skills they need. Want to go to college for free? Get a STEM degree, nursing, PT. Heck extend it to trade schools and Junior colleges. Not saying you have to go to work for that company, just that you add to the labor pool for that skill set.
Want to get a Phemenist degree, be another graphics designer- have fun paying for it yourself.
That takes care of the support side. The cost side will follow when people actually have to pay for it out of their own pockets.
Oddly, they complain about 'privilege'- and then ask plumbers and electricians to pay for their tuition. How egalitarian.
White Privilege- it takes a vilege.
Hilarious. Too bad most of our campus fragile flowers will never see it, because it would cause their tiny little brains to implode.
