The Economist gives the President a new moniker: Vladimir Obama

The respected international neo-liberal publication The Economist pounds another nail into the Obama administration’s coffin.

It's become increasingly difficult to tell where Vladimir Putin ends and Barack Obama begins

Vladimir Obama. Ouch. Consider it more evidence that Obamanamiacs are the only ones still buying this guy’s act.

The respected international neo-liberal publication The Economist pounds another nail into the Obama administration’s coffin:

Mr Obama is not the socialist the right claims he is. He went out of his way, meeting BP executives on June 16th, to insist that he has no interest in undermining the company’s financial stability. But his reaction is cementing business leaders’ impression that he is indifferent to their concerns. If he sees any impropriety in politicians ordering executives about, upstaging the courts and threatening confiscation, he has not said so. The collapse in BP’s share price suggests that he has convinced the markets that he is an American version of Vladimir Putin, willing to harry firms into doing his bidding.

Nobody should underestimate the scale of BP’s mistake, nor the damage that it has caused. But if the president does not stand up for due process, he will frighten investors across the board. The damage to America’s environment is bad enough. The president risks damaging its economy too.

Bad as “Vladimir Obama” sounds, the geniuses in this administration may not recognize it as an insult. They’re probably giving each other congratulatory slaps on the back and saying, “Well, at least they didn’t call him Adolf Obama.”

The Economist gulps, reconsiders its Obama endorsement

obama_economist You just can’t find a newspaper with more solid economic credentials than the Economist. So a lot of people were surprised when it endorsed a radical, inexperienced candidate like Barack Obama.

Now the respected economic publication seems to be having second thoughts:

His performance has been weaker than those who endorsed his candidacy, including this newspaper, had hoped. Many of his strongest supporters—liberal columnists, prominent donors, Democratic Party stalwarts—have started to question him. As for those not so beholden, polls show that independent voters again prefer Republicans to Democrats, a startling reversal of fortune in just a few weeks. Mr Obama’s once-celestial approval ratings are about where George Bush’s were at this stage in his awful presidency. Despite his resounding electoral victory, his solid majorities in both chambers of Congress and the obvious goodwill of the bulk of the electorate, Mr Obama has seemed curiously feeble.

Feeble? The Economist may be giving him too much credit here.
