Taxing a professor’s privilege

Taxing a professor’s privilege. “If we did implement a wealth tax, should it tax tenure? Professorial tenure is, after all, a valuable asset. … Everyone with civil-service protections or similar employment guarantees should probably have that asset taxed.” The author is doing a “thought experiment” but makes a great point – there’s a lot of assets that never come up when the subject of taxes is raised (pun intended.) Assets like lifetime job guarantees, journOlists’ expense accounts, flights on Air Force One, etc, etc. Coincidentally, these are assets enjoyed mostly by those who want to raise everyone else’s taxes.

  • Im in favor of forcing professors back into the private sector for at least three years before they can even be considered for tenure. It will give them a real dose of reality.

  • Just take the tenure away and fire at will..maybe a few of these mental midgets would actually get fired.

    • And let Professors TEACH, instead of requiring unending publish worthy research. Now grad students are teaching most of the classes.

  • Professor: Haven´t you ever heard of White Privilege, asshole?!? You obviously never had an education, our White Privilege makes the poor People Of Colors into natural born loosers and victims, what are you going to do about that?

Governor: Easy, we reduce your salary to 50 000 dollar a year and give the extra money to the disadvantaged.

    Professor: FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • Great idea, but will never happen. These communist asshats are all part of the 'tax thee, but not for me" crowd. Although it would be fun to watch the hypocrites scream if somebody tried to pass it into law.

  • YES!!!

We should also be taxing the huge pension payments that go into every public employee retirement. We are making millionaires out of every single government employee. A low level state employee in Kalifornia will have a pension worth $2 million dollars when they retire at 55. We get taxed on our social security (which public employees do not pay into) so the government worker should pay for the 50-100K per year they get in retirement pay.
