The best newspaper correction ever (Hey, wait a second. Are they making fun of us Trekkies?)
Do we detect the slightest little hint of sarcasm in this Australian newspaper’s correction? We hope not, because as everyone knows, the original Star Trek was the greatest program in the history of television.
We’re sorry for claiming Captain Kirk was in command of Captain Picard’s starship
Next thing you know, they'll confuse the Klingons and the Romulans
YESTERDAY, a news.com.au article incorrectly stated that the Star Trek starship USS Enterprise-E, otherwise known as model NNC-1701-E, was the successor to Captain Kirk’s original USS Enterprise.It has since been brought to our attention that the NNC-1701-E in fact came two models after Captain Kirk retired and was under the command of Captain Jean Luc Picard.

User “Your Mum’s Lunch” led the charge of those who correctly pointed out that after losing the original Enterprise to the Klingons, Captain Kirk was given the Excelsior Class Enterprise-B as a stop-gap measure until the refit of the Enterprise-A was completed.
Kirk’s last ship was the Ambassador Class Enterprise-C.
Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E were in fact, the first of the Galaxy Class models and were under the command of Captain Picard.
There were also some concerns about whether the incorrect use of the term “hyperspace” in describing warp drive technology may harm the original Star Trek concept, particularly the books.
News.com.au apologises unreservedly for the error.
There was no intention whatsoever to suggest Captain Kirk may have commanded the Galaxy Class Starships Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E.
Any damage to the Star Trek brand incurred by the use of the term “hyperspace” is regretful.
No malice was intended and a correction to the original article will be made.
We also agree that Patrick Stewart is a handsome man, a sentiment expressed by several readers.

Kirk punches somebody out 93 times in 87 episodes. That's why we love him. That and the alien chicks, I mean.
Even worse - and only a true Trekkie would have caught this... it's not "NNC-1701" as stated more than once in the article... it's "NCC-1701". Secondly, in another glaring mistake in such a poorly researched article, is the contention that Kirk was given the command of "B" as a stopgap before "A" was "refit"... "A" was not a refit, it was a completely new vessel as the original was destroyed. At that time, the only Excelsior class starship was the Excelsior. There was no "B". This is pointed out in Scott's statement about "who would want to fly around in that bucket o' bolts?" If they were coming from the Enterprise "B", (since this statement was made right before they saw the Enterprise "A"), Kirk and Scotty would have already been "flying around on that bucket o'bolts" and the line doesn't make sense...
Lastly, to point out how poorly researched the article is - Kirk was never in command of "B". The commander of "B" was John Harriman, who on the maiden voyage responded to a distress call from the Lakul and encountered a space-time rift which caused Kirk's disappearance and his presumed death.
This from 1 minute of research to double check my memory... Wish the media would spend a minute researching their stories rather than making them up out of whole cloth...
I suspect that IDing the Enterprise as NNC 1701 was done on purpose. It's too blatant to be an accident.
As for the rest of the "facts"; who cares? I was 10 when the original show was on and busy alternating between having adolescent crushes on Yeoman Rand and Uhura.
OK female Star Treck fans. Who's the bigger hunk? Captain Kirk and his rug? Or, Captain Picard and his baldness?
I'm sorry, but as a HUGE Star Trek fan, this is worse than the NYT claiming that Obama is the best thing since peanut butter.What's even worse is your statement what TOS was the best of the Star Trek. I'm sorry, but Captain Picard is better than Kirk. I gotta say that it was a hard decision, but at the end of the day, Picard is a better captain than Kirk.
