IHateTheMedia.com’s judgment confirmed: Tim Conway, Jr named #5 Best radio host in Los Angeles survey

KFI’s Tim Conway, Jr was the #1 pick in our recent countdown of America’s Top Ten Local Talk Show Hosts. Our judgment has been confirmed by Los Angeles radio professionals who named Conway their #5 on-air personality in the nation’s biggest, toughest, most competitive radio market.

Another blatant promotional story for KFI's Tim Conway, Jr. We're such pathetic groupies.

Here’s what some of LARadio.com’s readers had to say about Tim:

• “Incredibly entertaining no matter what he’s discussing. For the first time in a long time I actually turn off the tv at home and turn up the radio at 7 p.m. to listen.”

• “I wish sometimes I got out of work later in the evening to hear more of his brilliance. His father’s comedic genius is in his DNA. Love the ‘What did Jesse Jackson Say?’ bit Also, props to his newsperson and semi-side kick Aron Bender. They have great chemistry.”

• “A brilliant talk show host with impeccable comedic timing and audience connection. Whether deconstructing the latest celebrity meltdown or riffing on a local news story, Tim is tough to turn off. Tim’s show exudes the ‘something is always happening’ vibe on his show. Tim’s humor cannot be found anywhere else on the talk dial. In 2012, Conway should be holding down morning drive in LA radio.”

• “Very funny. A highly entertaining show that does not rely on a politics-only approach. It’s clear he’s following his own instincts instead of being forced in a box. And he’s drawing a much larger audience on AM than he ever did on fm. An enormous, obvious lesson here if anyone is paying attention.”

• “One of the most likeable guys, both in and out of the control room. Conway’s irreverent style has won him a solid following. Some of my favorite moments are when he cracks himself up during the show. Generally speaking, that must mean that his material comes from somewhere outside of his own notes and show prep. One of the last great entertainers and master storytellers on talk radio.”

• “Tim is smart, dryly funny, and unique, a major talent ready for prime time.”

We sent Conway a congratulatory email when we read that he had been named #5 on LARadio.com’s list. It said, “Yeah, well, that’s nice and all, but we’re sure you’re much prouder of being #1 on IHateTheMedia.com.”

He responded with a witty “You’re 1,000 percent right.”

OK, maybe not all that witty, but it was Tim Freakin’ Conway, Jr and we’ll take what we can get.

  • This is Conway's" shtick", Shock jock radio mentality is alive on KKKFI . He bags on everything that is government run ,anti- union (although he's a UNION member of SAG/AFTRA -hypocrite). I personally think he does not like public unions because they do better for their workers than does his "crappy" union (his words) He works for Clear Channel/ Fox News ,and is "faithful" only to his paycheck .Still talks about George Bush like he still president. Recently, he commented on Clint Eastwood's commercial during the Superbowl. I thought it was a pretty good spot, inspiring and uplifting in a time where America can sure one. Conway Jr. not only hammered Clint, but then shot down how Chrysler has come back from near bankruptcy to become one the the American auto industry success stories. He went on further to say American cars are not worth buying. What a douche!! Funny, because he advertises for a car dealership in Riverside Ca. (oops!) He talks about salaries of teachers , but won't disclose what he earns- hypocrite. Put's down Catholics, but claims to be one.His show, like alot of personalities on KKKFI is to negatively comment on the news of the day and offer no positive positions. they pick the train wreck or the car crash or the suicide and and exploit the story for the sake of ratings. The sad thing about Tim Conway Jr. he is NOT his father. He see's himself as someone who is morally superior to those who he bashes daily.I believe he wishes he was a famous as the celebrities he rips on. Say's he's a great father but's takes his kid gambling with him.He constantly repeats numerious catch phrases through his broadcasts. His comedy is, as he would say "low end" Having lived in his father's shadow (name sake) is the ONLY way he has survived in entertainment. And he would probably agree. Nothing new here, sadly.

    • The latest ratings were released this week. KFI, the radio station you hate so much, finished #1 in the Los Angeles market, a remarkable achievement for an AM station in this day and age. And, of course, they also rank highly in the Riverside-San Bernardino market, Santa Barbara-Ventura, and San Diego. Looks like a lot of people disagree with you.

    • I think maybe he rags on public sector unions because of the damage that they do the nation as a whole. And yes, his union IS crappy. He is a member because he is FORCED to be one to pursue his preferred line of work.

  • I must be missing something here, as I think Tim Conway is the uninformed and ignorant radio personality since Rush Limbaugh. But for local SoCal, he knows nothing.

It's obvious he's not well educated. He's not well traveled, and is basically a valley boy, who never grew up much. I'm from the West Side and trust me, timmie knows so little about SoCal, he should just zip it. He knows the valley, great. SoCal is not the valley.

His recent attack last night on Morgan Freeman's recent notes on race in politics was a telling example of little Timmie's issues on race. Why are ALL his most vicious attacks and criticism for Black individuals. Steckler who is at least witty and generally on point, weasled it on this one for Tim.

    Too bad.

Also why is it he only runs Jesse Jackson verbal screwballs. Is he the only pubic person who messes up his phrases? He's never run a George Bush series. How about the 'macaca' guy, that can't be his only hit.

    Just be fair.

Poor timmie, he probably never learned how to spell that four letter word.

    • Yes, you are missing something. So far it sounds like judgement and logic are obviously outside your purview. It could well be your brain is completely detached.

  • Tim has such a great show, I ALMOST wish I lived closer to L.A. so I could hear him better, without so much interference whenever you go near a powerline, etc.

    • Hey Guy, do you know if I can stream the show and also point me in the right direction if possible so I can check it out? Thanks

      • Yes, you can both stream Tim's show live or listen to podcasts at your convenience. There's a link to KFI's website at the bottom of our original article on Tim which is linked to in the first line of the above article.

        • Thanks Ed, I should have seen that. Guess that's why my girls call me technologically challenged and forbid me to even utter the word facebook. I stream another of your stations, K-Earth here in Ohio when insomnia strikes.

          • K-Earth is a great station with a great morning man, Gary Bryan, a great afternoon guy, Shotgun Tom Kelly, and two weekenders who are waaaaay too good to be weekenders, Charlie Tuna and Bruce Chandler.

          • Hey, he's working on the country's top-rated oldies station, so it's ok that he's old. But he's still just as good as he was on KHJ in 1968.

          • Don't get me wrong, I didn't mean that as a bad thing. It's just that I remember listening to him on KHJ as a kid, and I'M a pretty old guy myself!
