Our two-word review of the upcoming Valerie Plame movie: Bush’s fault.

Valerie Plame movie

Q: How do you make a factual movie about the Valerie Plame affair and not cast the role of Richard Armitage?
A: You don’t.

It is no great secret that the entertainment industry would never let the truth get in the way of a good story. But with Fair Game Hollywood has put a new spin on a very old practice. It would seem that this go round they won’t let a good story get in the way of a political agenda.

No one will be happier to hear that than Patrick Fitzgerald. You remember Fitzgerald. He’s the federal prosecutor who got a conviction against Scooter Libby for supposedly lying about a crime – a crime that Fitzgerald knew had never been committed.

These days Fitzgerald’s in Chicago bumbling the case against Rod Blagojovich. Mostly because a serious prosecution of the colorful former governor might require evidence that could implicate President Obama.

Throw in the fact the whole controversy originally erupted because Plame used her position so that her husband could be given official government sanction to score political points against President Bush and that she effectively outed herself and you’d have a far more truthful and a far more compelling film.

Unfortunately we don’t see that one getting made any time soon.

  • THis is political propaganda par excellence. A generation will be brainwashed about this, with no one ever revealing the truth. I saw the trailers for this, and it is clearly nothing more than the left once again trying to attack Bush, who has absolutey nothing to do with anything anymore. It is character assassination, pure and simple. No one will release another movie with the opposing story, so this will be thought to be the truth.

    • It sure seems like it from the trailer. I'm guessing that there is no way they show that Valerie Plame was a secretary when she was "outed", and if she was truly "undercover" at the time then only she and her husband knew about it and so only he and her husband could become accountable for the outing. I'm also guessing no mention will be made that she used any position she might have had to send her husband on a "fact finding mission" to Nigeria to look for yellowcake. Despite the fact that nothing in his skill set recommended as even being competent at such a venture or that yellowcake was later discovered in Iraq. Or that he had a political axe to grind and the outcome of any "discoveries" he made was decided long before he left America for his "fact finding mission". I am also guessing that no mention will be made of the fact that Scooter Libby had nothing to do with the possibility that Plame outed herself. He was, however, on Patrick Fitzgerald's enemies list for brokering the Clinton era pardon of Marc Rich. A man Fitzgerald spent something like a decade trying to put away.

  • Wait, so Armitage is NOT in the movie?

That is freakin' awesome. I saw the trailer a couple weeks ago and it just looked like a frightfully awful movie....

    • I just checked the IMDb page to see if anyone had been cast in the role of Richard Armitage. No one has been.
