Washington Post’s Ezra Klein ends 2010 just as dense as he began it

The same guy who told us in early 2010 that the 2000-page ObamaCare bill was as simple to understand as a Dick & Jane book now has trouble with a considerably shorter document – the Constitution.

Washington Post writer and JournoList refugee Ezra Klein showed up on MSNBC Thursday. He’s upset because Republicans want to (gasp) read the Constitution at the beginning of the new Congress. Oddly enough, he seems to think the document is obsolete.

To summarize his position, “Nobody can understand what it means because it’s over 100 years old.”

Let’s not come down too hard on Klein. He does seem to have a wee bit of trouble understanding anything that’s over 100 years old. Helen Thomas, for example, is almost as old as the Constitution and Klein could never understand that she was anti-Semitic.

At least he’s consistent.

  • According to this genius, the US Constitution isn't even binding anymore ...Wha???? Flapbbb (that's the sound of my jaw hitting the floor), shhplaphBLAMthrrgh (that's the sound of my head blowing up because I couldn't get to the duct tape fast enough). Ding, dong, dong, (that's the sound of my wife calling 911).

  • Uhm... interesting... no offense to anyone (do not misunderstand or get angry), but that is pretty much what a lot of atheists would say about the Bible. Since it is not "current" and it is "old" or "ancient" it is not factual, it is not historical and it is no longer a viable source of usable information, nor a prefered meter on social values... it also seems to be both too simplistic and too complex for the same people. Anything and everything is said in order to minimize it, and in many occassions disrespect it. If the Bible can be disrespected, minimized and torned down, then what it says has no value and if what it says has no value then no one has to feel bad about not doing what it says.

When someone is scared of something or else would rather not follow a certain format of life, what they will seek to do is destroy that something or anything related to that something that has any possibility in minimizing what they actually want to do with their own lives.

People, in general, want the right to govern their own lives. That is actually a Natural Right, that I have no problem with. Some others in addition want to make their lives and their surroundings into their own images and not have to respond or to be subjected to a Higher Power, even if the Higher Power is benevolent in nature. I actually don't have a problem with this either. It is called Free Will. What I do have a problem with is those that seek to undermine, insult and demoralize those who do want to subject themselves to a benevolent Higher Power or philosophy of life.

The only reason I mention this is because it seems something similar here is happening. Don't anyone misunderstand what I am saying please nor get upset. I truly mean no disrespect to anyone's philosophies in life, there are a lot of non-religious people out there who are patriotic. Great patriots who just happen not to be religious and that is fundamental that you know that I know that, but my point is that people who aren't patriotic (hate this country) and seek to transform the country into their own image generally minimize founding documentation (like the Constitution) as foolish, antiquated and so on and so forth based on it being "old" and not up with the times.

That is of course based as I tried to explain above in a certain lack of faith in their country, in hatred of what the country represents, not wanting to live under the country's laws (even if they are benevolent in nature) and a lack of faith in what it was founded on and what it means to be an American. In a desire to be a citizen of the world (not to be considered "American") and their faith in government instead of the Natural Rights of Man, people want to create a country in their image instead of allowing that Man has natural rights that do not and can never come through governments.

The way to minimize the Natural Rights of Man AND to seek to replace the benevolent foundations of the country with something more like them, liberals (progressives and so on) seek to tear down the Constituation and the true lives of the Founders (real history), because they lack faith in what they tried to do, and even if in my opinion it is very benevolent in nature, they do not see it that way. They hate the Constitution because of what it represents: That freedom and liberty is not given by the government, and that the people not the elite or those in governance are truly the one that should surround the government not the other way around.

These people want to be those that have ultimate control. They demand the people to be subservient in many ways, to be the people's gods. What it is interesting to me is that these people have no patriotic ways within them, they despise the (benevolent for everyone) parameters of the Constitution on their god the government and wish to destroy it. So they used this old document thing which is complete BS.

I know what I said is probably kind of confusing and I am sorry it is late and again no offense to anyone. This is what I see with this situation and this is how I understand it. I think that the parameters set by the Constitution although perhaps imperfect (and even the imperfections as far as I am concerned can be explained), are benevolent in nature and I have no problem with it and submitting to the parameters overall. That is a faith that I have in what the Founding Fathers wanted for this country, couple with my own experiences in life so it is not a blind faith. Of course many people like this man do not share that and hence we have people like this man walking around...

What I say to them is the following: go to another country and leave this country to me and the many other people that actually believe in it and want it to be the best that it can be and not change it to crap. If this country is so bad instead of trying to mold it and change it (and it is not even broke) is to just go the heck away. No one is keeping you here and if you are going to stay don't fix what ain't broke and live and let live. Enjoy the benefits of living in such a great country and let it be.

  • Undermining the Constitution is the job of media morons like these two dumbsticks, they help Washington shove things down your throat.

  • thats why they nolonger teach civics in school. they dont want you to know how the goverment works. remember the sat. mornings on abc. how a bill becomes law. it doesnt work like that anymore.

      • Civics was thought as I was growing up and I can only assume that is still happening (this is former country). When I started a US based high school civics was not taught at all, and this was a Department of Defense school. US history was seriously lacking in context and substance and there were no religion classes (something that did exist in my previous schools). That is classes on world religions of course specifically Christianity. Most of classes were concentrated on language and sciences (also of course practical things like typing). There weren't even philosophy classes.... again something that was part of my previous schools. Considering that my country could be considered a third world country although I would attest it to be more second world so to speak, the serious lack of courses in a DEVELOPED country's school, to deal with the inner person and the person and his relationship with his country and one another was interesting.

      • The main thing the schools teach is self esteem. What they turn out are kids who feel great about themselves, but have very little reason to.

        • I really think it depends on where you are in the country. Cause I know it is still taught around here and I Know they are taught in Missouri....

But hey, I live in ARizona. We are all just Gun Loving Barbarians (tm) Here.

  • Wait a second, I thought the LiberalCommunists liked to say the Constitution was a "living" document.

Now it is just an old piece of paper?

    • It is a living & breathing document, they just don't like going through the amendment process. They love using the courts instead with unelected judges who are accountable to those who put them on the bench.

    • Yeah. But we all know the Bible is just a tool that is used to subjugate the populace. We should read a real peace loving religious text, like the Quran. But cause Islam is a religion of peace and Christianity is nothing but full of hate.

      heh.

(I'm not being serious, but I have heard such arguments before.)
