• This is why it is harder and harder to stay in Law Enforcement, I don't know where some of these "officers" come from. One thing is lowering standards and getting people who have no common sense. But I have gone off on this before and it sucks. Turdburgers like these guys make the rest of us look like shit, in a job where most people are never happy to see you anyway. When you go out of your way to help someone they think you shafting them thanks to assholes like these cops.

        • Speak freely. There are many times I wonder were common sense has gone. An officer's best tools are their wits and common sense. It was preached over and over by my FTOs.

        • Talking to people is an art, they don't teach that anymore, Number one reason we get complaints? The officer didn't explain what was going on. Even after whooping the ass of someone who started it, I always talk to them, sometimes they don't want to talk, but a lot of times you get them to apologize and realize the mistake. Nowadays we get cops who just stare at people and walk away...They get challenged they feel the need to whoop the ass of someone who is already on edge that could be calmed down by talking...I could care less what someone says about me..I have heard it all, but young guys take it personally like they have been trained all their lives that people can not be mean to you...I think a lot of them lack the skills to deal with people who don't like you, it is not like grade school where everything is fair and nice....Social skills are lacking.....As so is common sense. I bet we could publish a book on shit gone bad because of a lack of communication or common sense...Trust me, the guys who are good at this know there are bad cops out there, and try and get one fired, unless they are on probation or shot their x-wife it takes an act of god to send them down the road in some places...

• WTF?!? Aren't you allowed to resist someone who is stealing your property? I feel like they could have done something without breaking the law - stand on the base of the signs, stand in the guy's way, make him push you out of the way, at which time he has committed assault.
  This is pretty messed up. They weren't chanting, praying or singing. They weren't yelling, they were just standing there quietly. They weren't even on the same side of the street as the abortuary.
  Don't uniformed police have a duty to act?

• What I don't get is why they didn't just do a "citizen's arrest" of the thief.
  The signs are on public property, and weren't blocking his store entrance, so he had no legal grounds to remove them.
  I would have taken them away from him and told him that if he continued to try to steal my property, I would "feel threatened" and have to exercise my right of self defense.
  I hope they got the names and badge numbers of all the lazy cops that stood there jerking off.
