When Arizona kids get an “F” in school, it stands for Fat

This gives a whole new meaning to grading on the curve.

The Daily Caller has the latest skinny…uhhh…let’s change that to the fat facts:

fat-child
Little Johnny just got an F+.

Chubby elementary school children in Flagstaff, Ariz., have more than just bullies to worry about. If they’re too fat, their school will notify their parents.

Starting in the fall, students in the Flagstaff district will be weighed and measured at school. Students who are found to be overweight, marginally overweight, or underweight will have a letter sent home to their parents, which will include graphs showing a range of appropriate weights for a given age and height.

This is just such nonsense. When the Editor’s wife, who is now a goddess, was in school she was a fat girl (do me a really big favor and don’t tell her I said that.) And when the Editor himself was in school, he was so damn skinny that he looked like a pipe cleaner with ears and yet he is now a golden bronzed Adonis whose lean, muscular body makes strong women swoon.

Kids grow. Kids change. Unfortunately, liberal nanny staters do neither.

  • The idiots that came up with this need to be bullied and tortured until they understand the error of their ways!

  • This is just a way to shame children and it creates environments where they will be bullied. Creating the same problems that they claim to want to stop. Idiots.

    • Yeah, this is exactly what a kid getting bullied for their weight doesn't need -- to get bullied by their teacher, the school system, and by all the other nanny statists.

      • The kids will take the q from the teacher and her reaction to the weigh ins... Weigh ins should not be done period but at least not in front of everybody. It is humiliating and cruel in my opinion. I have a feeling that they want people to be humiliated to shame them into behaving according to the State. It is evil.

  • When I was 13 I was 6' tall and weighed 113 lbs. I was skinny as a rail.
I also ate more than anyone else I knew!
I was just a very active kid, not malnourished or neglected.
These stupid graphs mean nothing. We are people, not cookie cutter outlines in a damned government statistical report!
Now, I am 6'2" and 250 lbs. So according to the BMI chart, I am obese.
They seem to have forgotten about the muscle mass vs fat content ratios. all that matters to these nanny state perfunctory drones, is the raw numbers and not reality!
    I'm sick of this.

    • Bravo!!! When I was in the Air Force, one of the guys was a body builder. He had a bod that would make most women cream over, with not an ounce of fat anywhere (that I could see, but alas I never got a better look). The Air Force put him on the "fat boy program" , which was funny...until they almost kicked him out of the Air Force for not losing weight. And this is the government we want running our health care?

      • I was also in the Air Force. Had the same problem with the "fat boy" program. I was 6'2" and 210 lbs at the time. My supervisor wanted me in his own training program to lose weight. He took me to the gym to try and wear me out, but gave up when I out lifted him on every machine in the place!
I did have a bit of belly fat, but wasn't in need of the "fat boy" program.
They finally did a muscle mass study on me and decided I was OK.

  • Just when I think that I’ve heard it all! I really appreciate the schools in Flagstaff will soon be informing their students parents that their kids are fat. That is definitely life-changing information that I’m sure these parents won’t be able to live without.

    • It's not all the schools...just the public schools in the FUSD (government). My kiddo goes to a charter school here in Flag, where the PE teacher (who is awesome) explained to them why they would NOT be sending these ridiculous letters home.

  • There's a genetic component to body weight, just like there is for height. How is "range of appropriate weights" not racist? Grammar is racist...

  • Consider the very fact that no two humans are alike. Save twins, but for this argument, I'm not dealing with them, just the majority of the population. Who is to say what's acceptable and what isn't? Who determines what the "right" weight is?
Believe me, I've seen the "ideal" weight for someone of my height. I would be skinnier than Starvin' Marvin off South Park. That just doesn't work for me. This judgmental behavior is only further enforcing people to look down on themselves, and think they are some sort of outcast, when they aren't. It's idiotic, and frankly, they should be ashamed of themselves.

  • Like the Editor said, kids change. Many kids get chubby right before a growth spurt... They going to take that into account? Oh, and the CAPTCHA for me is FATZ! LOL

  • Idiots.. how did anyone approve something like that? Just a new invitation to another form of eating disorder. Let's shame them to death, and then expect children not to follow the schools example by making fun of them for being too chubby. Hypocrisy! So ridiculous! There would be hell to pay if this even got brought up at my kids school.

    • I grew up thinking I was appallingly fat, because I was much bigger than my classmates. What they overlooked was my genetic makeup. The girls I dwarfed in 2nd grade I still dwarf today. Their adult height was around 5'2". MY adult height, reached at age 12, was 5'8". I weighed 130- a good 40-50 lbs more than my classmates, but barely within normal weight based on BMI. Serve the kids healthy food, get them some real exercise, not standin in line waiting their 2 minute turn at an activity and they will be fine.

      • Awe Deb.. I hear ya. We all had our "thing" growing up that made us feel different, and I would bet there is not a person alive that was not teased for something as a child. We could all share a story... one that sticks out for me, was my brother who was dyslexic and put in the Special Ed class... don't think that didn't effect him throughout his life. I was a late "bloomer" myself, but when I did, it was fast. I went back to school after summer break and had more attention than I wanted!!! We both went through a period of I guess you would call chubby at different times in our adolescence. We have both grown up to be of thin build.
It is well documented healthy children go through a stage before or during puberty where they gain more weight than normal because of hormones... how are we going to decide which kids this normal for, or when this is the case, and which are not. We can't because there are too many factors. Not only that the Soy in every thing anyone eats actually effects the thyroid... I would bet many of these kids are suffering from this as well. Cancer patients are told not to eat Soy (if they have a good doctor who even knows that) because it effects the hormones and actually makes the cancer grow... ask any Male with breast cancer. And if you know one with "Man Mam's", tell him to eliminate the Soy from his diet!!! So knowing that, they put it in baby formula, and you can bet there will be more of it in school lunch thanks to that new bill that just passed by Michelle Obama. Because Soy is healthy, right?!! Wrong! It's a government run mega industry. Follow the money, they don't care if your kids are healthy.
What I am trying to get around to is this has nothing to do with healthy size of children, or obesity....is all about CONTROL. Taking control out of the hands of parents, by way they feed them, how they should feed them. What goes into the food supply thanks to the bill (S510)the Senate is sitting on right now will make that even more possible for the general public. The government is finding away to CONTROL the food supply by making the public believe it is for their SAFETY or HEALTH. Haven't you heard the new garbage by Scientist... they think we should ration ourselves like in the depression of the 30's, but since people will not be willing to do it themselves they are asking the government to do it by controlling power and the food supply. Outrageous, YES, but true story!
If people are so complacent to let this happen, it will, and IS. If I was a mother there.. you would see me on the news as some right wing propaganda spewing freak... but I wouldn't be sittin' on my ass letting them feed me their BS!! This story has more to do with what people are actually eating, and ingredients, and what the government has been sneaking into the American diet!!!

  • Maybe we can start sending letters to the libtards in congress letting them know they are stupid - just in case they didn't know.
