Windmills killed at least 600,000 bats last year. When you add the bats killed to the birds killed, factor in the screeching and howling noises that drive people crazy, consider the fact that many have stopped working from lack of maintenance, all of them stop working when the wind blows too hard or too soft, and even when they work they produce electricity so expensive utilities must be forced by legislative fiat to buy it… well, by golly, windmills are the perfect liberal idea.

  • my cat landed a bat a few months back.. on that night, i got footage of a raccoon family in my kitchen (3 little ones in tow), and the bat, all on me Googly Glass (which I hardly ever use, cuz they look ridiculous, and just ain't ready for prime time consumer use, i.e. pain in ass)

    • Somehow I can picture you wearing that thing only when no one else is around and constantly checking over your shoulder to make sure.

      • Its not too awful if I wear a hat.. i got semi-longish hair to cover some of it up, but some people really seize up under the perceived surveillance, and I've only worn it a couple times out in public with the family (letting the kids run around with it is a decent ice-breaker).

        Otherwise, the phone action is pretty shit (the bone-conduction doesn't work well in noisy areas). The tethering to device for connectivity fails too often to be useful.. Its not even close to consumer ready, and Google's fully aware.. They actually just sent out invites for swapping to a newer model, so we'll see

        I figured i'd make a portion of my wargame work in Glass, in order to get some attention in crowded app market, but i haven't even dug into the APIs necessary for that.

        Overall its pretty meh

  • Something tells me that if you dig deep enough and go through all the shell corporations, you'll find that the owner of all the big windmill companies is either the Joker, the Penguin, the Riddler, or Two-Face.

    • Besides, wasn't it George Bush who was seen driving each of those bats into the windmills? Now that he's an ex-president and not creating an unpatriotic $9 trillion deficit, he needs a new hobby... and he can't be spending ALL his time pushing baby polar bears off ice floes to the newly formed ice over to the edge of the ice cap that has inconveniently yet factually expanded over the last year or so drown in the expanding Arctic ocean that has grown smaller because of glow bull warm mongering... maybe we should pivot to the economy....

  • It a fungus that's effecting the eastern small brown bats, they don't eat enough during the summer to survive hibernation during the winter because of it. It's called white face syndrome because it grows on their faces and causes them to turn white. It's spread by people going into their caves with the infection, and spreading it to other caves because they don't get it off their boots.

    • So you're saying the people trying to save the bats were spreading the disease that was killing the bats? Sounds like typical animal husbandry as practiced by the government.

      It's a well-known fact that the best way to save any critter is to hunt it. Once you start hunting a critter the hunters will make sure their license fees are used to increase the numbers of the critter so there's more of them to hunt. (Just look how many white tail deer there are.) And conversely, the worst thing you can do to a critter is put him on the endangered species list and put the federal Fish and Wildlife Service in charge of saving them.

  • More cause and effect that Liberals just simply refuse to acknowledge. Bad enough all the dipshits who were caving on the east coast almost killed all the bats with white nose syndrome.

    • Exactly, Bats are in enough trouble already. And their loss is devastating to every American, sicne they several times their body weight in insects EVERY DAY (aell, night actually, but you get it.) Same with bees. We're killing them off just as fast as we can and their lack of pollination with destroy crops, particularly food crops.

    • Yeah- and it's a damned shame that brown nose syndrome wasn't as deadly with media and political bats (in the belfry).

    Help wanted - $138,000 per year to start. Dead bat counters. Must be able to add above 500,000. Degree in zoology helpful but not needed, must be able to differentiate dead bird carcasses from bats. Republicans need not apply.

      Then how are they going to find someone that can count that high?
      How are they going to find anyone that can tell a bat (no, not baseball bat) from a bird?

  • I feel bad for my brother. He spent two years of being sleepless; going to school during the day, working at night- to get an AS in Wind Turbine Mechanics.... He's bought into the BS. Thinks coal is the Devil. Drives a Prius. Would have voted for O if he could (felony conviction). Very hard not to slap him silly.
