America’s top ten local talk show hosts: #5 – Casey Bartholomew/Free Agent

We continue our Top 10 Countdown with #5 today. Look for #4 tomorrow.

Until last month Casey Bartholomew & Ray Rossi, “The Jersey Guys,” hosted the most listened-to FM talk show in the country. The station’s management recently informed him that it was in cost-cutting mode and that he was now “pursuing other opportunities.” Casey didn’t know that he wanted to pursue any other opportunities, but so be it.

Casey cut his talk radio teeth at KFI/Los Angeles, the nation’s top-rated talk station, when he was still a college kid. Swear to god he wrote and produced the funniest station imaging material in the country. You knew way back then that he was going to do well in the talk radio business.

Put Casey in front of a mic, hand him a telephone and he’s guaranteed to make listeners laugh and politicians quake, because nobody motivates an audience like this guy. For example:

He brought 2000 listeners to the New Jersey Statehouse in the dead of winter to protest a massive toll hike on the New Jersey Turnpike. And stopped it from happening.

More than 2000 listeners also attended a tax protest disguised as a funeral for the middle class. Incensed listeners sent in thousands of empty wallets, The Jersey Guys put them in a casket, and Casey gave a eulogy. The politicians blinked and the tax increase died.

Casey’s worked in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and several other top ten markets. If you’re lucky Casey Bartholomew will end up on a station in your market very soon.

Here’s Casey on the subject of school resegregation:

And here he is demanding tax refunds from New Jersey’s state surplus:

  • Casey was a jerk off. He should go back to where ever he came from; he was NOT a Jersey guy. He didn't even drink.

  • I love your list. Couldn't agree more! Conway (& Steckler) were filling in for drive time these past couple of weeks on KFI and it was brilliant! T. Ray was even part of the act and it was hilarious.

Scott & Casey on KFI in the 90's was a real treat. That was a team. Loved it when they stole Bill Handel's refrigerator and moved it to another floor. (Phil Hendrie helped them out with that.) Casey was the reason Jersey Guys was so successful. Management is being penny-wise, pound foolish.

    • Phil Hendrie is a RIOT! You guys got to try to give him a listen some time. His podcasts are available at KFI640.com.

  • Logged on to NJ 101.5 after settling into my new TN home (just left the Garden State) and wondered why Casey & Rossi weren't following Dennis & Judy (actually it was Michelle today). Wow! Get Casey back -- please!! Or maybe he'd like to broadcast from TN. I'd sure like that.

  • Casey is awesome! I used to listen to him and Ray when I lived in NJ. I'm sorry to see he's looking for a job, but would love it if he landed in Tampa!
