Had a conservative called African-Americans “mongrels”, there wouldn’t be a font size large enough for the headlines that would have run in the mainstream media. Think Pearl Harbor multiplied by Man Lands On Moon. The headline in the New York Times would have taken up the whole front page.
But when President Obama said it on The View, the mainstream media just nodded and winked. Witness the following story from The Hill:
President Obama waded into the national race debate in an unlikely setting and with an unusual choice of words: telling daytime talk show hosts that African-Americans are “sort of a mongrel people.”
The president appeared on ABC’s morning talk show “The View” Thursday, where he talked about the forced resignation of Agriculture Department official Shirley Sherrod, his experience with race and his roots.
When asked about his background, which includes a black father and white mother, Obama said of African-Americans: “We are sort of a mongrel people.”
“I mean we’re all kinds of mixed up,” Obama said. “That’s actually true of white people as well, but we just know more about it.”
What a wonderfully post-racial thing to say. It is a good thing that Saint President Obama has transcended all racism now so that remarks like this are no longer offensive.
Unless a Republican were to say it, in which case it would be time to break out the giant fonts again.

He was not incorrect in the idea that there is no such thing as a PURE race. That as far as I am concerned and as I understand history has never existed. The only race is the human race which means there is one race which encapsulates varieties of forms, traditions, languages, heritages, nationalities and color of skins. People of all colors and backgrounds are "mixed" with other people of all colors and backgrounds. What made his remark incorrect was the use of the term mongrel which IHTM correctly states is a word that if used by a conservative (especially a white one) would deem the conservative a racist. He could have used other words to describe what he meant. He being such a laurate intelligent liberal graduated from an ivy league college and part of the elite and all that I am sure he would have been able to come up with something more suitable but alas he did not. However, since he is so fantastic and great let's let this one slide.
Au contraire ! The HUMAN RACE is still 100% HUMAN with no side-branches.

All humans are cross-fertile, all humans can receive blood transfusions from other humans of the same blood type. All else - skin color, hair color and type, facial features etc are just VARIATIONS within the species, just like the variations within the canine group. Gray wolf, brown boxer, golden retriever, St. Bernard, small chihuahua etc - still all dogs, all cross-fertile, but not cross-fertile with horses or birds.
So, there is no BLACK RACE, WHITE RACE etc. Thus, the correct term for a "racist" should be "speciesist". Sheesh !

It is what I said which is what you said. There is only one race which is the HUMAN race which so happens to have varieties or variations as you put it, but all encapsulated or all part of the human race, I guess part of the human experience. The divisions of "race" were merely language adopted by conquerors to "explain" their ability to conqueror other people, or a way for people to separate themselves from others to keep themselves pure.
My apologies, dear lady. I had not intended to offend but was, rather, adding additional statements as a "second the motion" to your comment. I erred in starting it with "au contraire" as it was intended as a rebuttal to "common knowledge". Your comments were so similiar and on the mark that I linked to them to have both together. We both see the death spiral our society is in due to the "official" lies it is fed from cradle to grave.
BTW, how does one get HTML to work here? I know the format for the commands, but how does one initiate them? I'd much rather use bold than so many "quote" marks. ( so much to learn, so little time.)

I wish we didn't have to deal with these issues of "race" anymore, but I see that it is just going to be part of our world and we just have to persevere in dealing with it and combatting against it as long as we can. Unless we are invaded by TRULY another race of people (from another planet), I see that as the only way to unite (in a really weird way it would be kind of cool, well it would be horrible to live in a V type of world, but at the same time cool... does that make sense? :-) )

Why is NAACP, et al, not up in arms about how this man has set back civil rights and civility between blacks and whites to zero? WHY? Are there none in the NAACP who possess brain power?
