Unprecedented: Barack Obama turns down undeserved award
This news just in from the Telegraph UK’s “Man Bites Dog” Department:
Barack Obama has snubbed Britain’s most eminent scientists by refusing to attend a Royal Society banquet in his honour at which he was to be awarded with a prestigious medal.
"I'm honored to give you this award naming you the bestest president ever."
The US President was offered the chance to receive the King Charles II medal, which is awarded in “exceptional circumstances” to heads of state who have “made an outstanding contribution to furthering scientific research in their country”.
We admit to doing a double take. Not to be cynical, but our president turns down an award about as frequently as Dominique Strauss Kahn refuses a free hotel room. We wondered if due to the language barrier, Obama’s team mistakenly thought he was being offered a bust of Churchill.
The Royal Society seemed to have its own explanation:
A British government source close to the Obama visit said: “The Royal Society was really keen to do something with Obama and they expected him to be very honoured by the medal.
“Instead they received a very short response from his people saying that it would be better for him to visit a state school.
“The inference they took from that was that he was more interested in cultivating his street cred than in building links with British scientists.”
We understand perfectly. Obama has received all the undeserved adulation one man can stand in a lifetime. Pity their response was tinged with a bit of racism, as perhaps was their original offer.
Olivia and the other Obama worhippers would not know a fact if it bit them in the ass. Personally, as much as she annoys me, the bottom line is we need to quit responding. She isn't going to suddenly see the light and change, and GOd know, she isn't going to change anyone here with her diatribes. So just pass on by her stupid comments and eventually she will tire and go home, or back to her bridge, or where ever.
I have been saying this for the past two weeks. Overall it is the best thing to do. I dont even read nor respond to the troll's crap anymore. It is not worth it. Although the troll is a stalker, so I guess it is going to take a bit longer before the troll retires back to its cave.

Those who write such pieces have only one goal in mind: to gratify the feelings of those who detest Obama, and are always on the lookout for new excuses to do so. He turned down an award without doing anything to earn it? I think they have switched him with a body double. The Obama I know would never pass up a chance to exalt himself higher than he belongs. Not with a tough reelection bid coming up.

Well, I did what any responsible person would do, after reading the above accusatory blurb: went hunting for a less biased account (and with a bit more to back it up) on the internet.
What I found were about 200 right wing sources----the usual suspects such as FOX News, FreeRepublic and CanadaFreePress, plus some odd ones like Weasel Zippers-----that parroted exactly the same opinion piece about it. But no news accounts. Not one of these sources saw fit to get Obama's explanation for not accepting the invitation, befoe trumpeting all over creation that he had "snubbed" the group.
And, because most of the posters here are anxious to believe the worst about their president, they gleefully swallowed the gossip-column style account, without first bothering to check the facts.
Maybe he was wrong to turn down the invitation. Maybe he had other plans that he didn't like to cancel at the last minute. Or maybe, as some here are eager to believe, he declined the invitation because he felt he didn't deserve the award. Who knows? None of us. But the dishonest ones will make up whatever explanation best suits their prejudices, and repeat it to anyone who will listen, and the honest ones will withhold judgment until getting the facts.
I know which group I prefer to be in. HOw about the rest of you?

I'm in the group that knows Obama is bad for this country, does things only for himself or his agenda and cannot be trusted as far as I can throw Michael Moore. Obama has shown that time and time again, so when he does something like this the reasons behind it aren't hard to see. You don't need to read 'biased' or 'unbiased' to know this.
With Obama it has *always* been about the election. He has never left that mode. He should have but he isn't a good man or a good president. So knowing his intentions isn't really rocket science.
