A federal judge in Texas granted 35 Navy service members’ court motion challenging the Pentagon’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate with religious exemptions Monday.

Mike Berry, who is representing the Navy SEALs on behalf of First Liberty Institute, told the Daily Caller News Foundation that the ruling is a win for religious freedom.

“We are very grateful for this ruling in favor of our clients,” Berry said. “No longer can the Navy force service members to choose between their faith and serving their country.”

He added: “If religious freedom means anything, it must mean that those who are sworn to protect our freedoms should not be forced to lose those very same freedoms.”

Immunity people enjoy after recovering from COVID-19 is better than the protection bestowed from vaccination, according to a new study from Israel.

Researchers analyzing data from the county’s health database found both COVID-19 infections and severe disease were higher among the vaccinated than those who recovered, also known as people with natural immunity.

For instance, the naturally immune had a 10.5 per 100,000 infection rate four to six months following their recovery, versus a 69.2 per 100,000 rate among the vaccinated.

The number of severe cases was also higher among the vaccinated: 0.9 percent of all cases among that group were severe, compared with 0.5 percent of cases among the recovered.

People who are immune have a 90 percent lower risk of severe disease, according to recent research from Qatar.

Maribel Duarte told NBC Los Angeles on Monday that her son recently came home from Barack Obama Global Prep Academy in South Los Angeles with a vaccine card, telling her that he accepted the shot after he was offered pizza. 

“It hurt to know he got a shot without my permission, without knowing and without signing any papers for him to get the shot,” Duarte said, adding that she is vaccinated and isn’t anti-vaccine.

However, the judge’s acknowledgment that “the DOD cannot mandate vaccines that only have an EUA” is significant for two reasons.

One reason pertains to the difference in ingredients and manufacturing process between Pfizer’s EUA vaccine and the approved Comirnaty vaccine, and the other pertains to the legal difference between a fully licensed vaccine and an EUA vaccine.

The latter reason would apply not just to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, but also to the vaccines produced by Moderna and Johnson & Johnson (Janssen), both of which are authorized only as EUA products.

The researchers, Laith Abu-Raddad with Weill Cornell Medicine–Qatar and Dr. Robert Berollini with Qatar’s Ministery of Public Health, previously assessed the effectiveness of natural immunity against reinfection as being 85 percent or greater.

“Accordingly, for a person who has already had a primary infection, the risk of having a severe reinfection is only approximately 1% of the risk of a previously uninfected person having a severe primary infection,” they said.

The department (DOT) lost 402 workers over the mandate, or nearly 6 percent of the workforce. That included 358 firings, about a third of which were for ferries, and retirements in lieu of vaccination.

The Washington State Patrol also lost nearly 6 percent of its personnel over the mandate.

Another approximately 350 workers, or 4.5 percent of the workforce, were fired by the Washington State Department of Corrections as of Oct. 19.

The state’s Department of Social and Health Services let go or are letting go about 313 workers, or 2 percent of the workforce, with another 2 percent having an accommodation request pending.

The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife terminated 38 workers on Monday due to a refusal to get vaccinated. Another 61 staff are on leave either waiting for their vaccinations to become effective or waiting to see if accommodation requests will be approved.

Southwest Airlines has been hit by a second day of mass-flight cancellations, two days after the firm’s pilots’ union asked a court to block a COVID vaccine mandate.

The Dallas-based carrier canceled over 1,000 flights Sunday, equivalent to 27 per cent of its entire schedule for the day.

That came hot on the heels of 808 flights canceled on Saturday. Southwest has blamed a combination of inclement weather and staffing shortages at Jacksonville Air Traffic Control Center in Florida for the disruption.

According to SPD, 354 police personnel have not submitted their records. Out of those who haven’t complied with the demand, 237 of them are patrol officers or work in operations. The mayor’s mandate came with the threat of termination, Post Millennial reported.

“This mandate serves two purposes. It accomplishes their (Seattle City Council’s) goal from last summer of defunding the police by half. Because at the end of this there will be half the officers that we had last year. It also weeds out the police officers and medical workers that will not enforce unconstitutional laws, mandates, and orders. Almost all that will be left are officers, that years from now, will say ‘I was just following orders,’” the officer concluded.
