Chris Christie says, “I’m not arrogant enough to believe that after one year as governor I am ready to be President”

Hmmmmm. That seems subtle. Wonder who he’s talking about. Who’s been elected President recently without enough experience to handle the job? We just can’t put our finger on it, damn it.

The Hill reported Christie’s candor:

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) brushed off a Zogby poll from earlier this month that showed him leading a pack of hypothetical GOP 2012 contenders, adamantly stressing that’s not in his plans.

“The president can rest easy because the only guy who beats him in that poll isn’t running,” Christie said on “Fox News Sunday.”

“I have a commitment to my state,” he said, adding that he’d only been governor for a year and New Jersey’s problems still need fixing.

“You have to believe in your heart that you’re personally ready to be president and I’m not there,” Christie said. “I am not arrogant enough to believe that after one year as governor … that I am ready to be president of the United States.”

“So I’m not going to run,” the governor said.

Yeah, we know. We’ve heard all the complaints that Christie really isn’t a real conservative, but we still love the guy.

The other way to interpret Christie’s statement is that he thinks he will be ready to be President after he’s been Governor for some as yet unspecified period of time.

Can you say 2016?

  • I think he is certainly ready to be president of the Porky Pig Fan Club. As far as president, impossible. The budget deficit would increase too much trying to reinforce the White House to try to survive this fat pig. Plus, where could he shower to get ready for a State Dinner? There is no tub in the White House big enough. Although I suppose they could water him down like a circus elephant outside. His rantings against abortion are absurd. He says people should practice self-restraint to avoid unwanted pregnancy. I guess that is the same self-restraint he practices when shoves another sundae or Krispy Kreme into his face and grunts about the need to cut student lunches for poor families.

    • Oh look everyone! It's one of those enlightened liberals who loves championing the virtues of "civil discourse". Look how she uses reason and logic to so skillfully articulate her well constructed arguments and opinions. What an impressive command of the issues! I am truly humbled. Thank you Anne for gracing us mere mortals with your obviously genius contributions on the modern American political landscape, which in absolutely no way make you seem like a pathetic mouth-breathing tantrum-throwing child with absolutely nothing of value to contribute to any adult conversation due to what is probably a birth defect that gravely effected your critical thinking faculties. We are all better for your presence on this website, and hope nothing horrible ever happens to you.

  • I'm really with JustAl on this one...we need another checked-pants, frat-boy, RINO like we need a another hole in our collective head. I know he's doing what appears to be a bang-up job in NJ and he has my kind permission to stay there and keep doing what he's doing. If he and the rest of the RINO establishment types and the Progmarxilists are dumping on Sarah Palin, then she's probably our guy.

    • Why can't we you know... wait until he DOES something real and consequential? I think he is cute and whatever and he does seem to be making great strides, but men (and women) who have no real world and extensive experience in the national political arena has done us no favors.

    • Uh, well no he shouldn't. Have you checked out his concern for the 2nd amendment and by logical extension the constitution as a whole?

No more RINO's from the NE corridor need apply as far as I'm concerned.

Obviously, his statements were aimed directly at Sarah Palin. As part of the NE brand of statists she scares the hell out of the establishment oriented types. By joining the socialists media in attacking her, one should be very, very conscious of the company he keeps.

    • Not necessarily. I don't think that he spends his days and nights obsessing about Palin as some people seem to do and the conversation was more Obama oriented so if anyone he would have thought about Obama, but in all reality I don't think he is so petty to actually think about anyone in particular.

    • "That sounds more like a swipe at Palin to me."

Or to Obama, who was barely in his Illinois Senate seat when he decided he'd already had enough experience to run the whole damn country (into the ground).

      • A dig at Obama fits a convenient narrative, but I'm not buying it. Christie has a history of distancing himself from Palin, including rejecting her support during the campaign.

I suggest Christie is joining a growing chorus of Right thinking people who have legitimate doubts regarding Palin's sincerity and abilities.

        • Or he's looking for a peachy job in a theoretical Romney administration (much more likely IMHO).

So, "right thinking people" would rather abandon commitment to the 2nd amendment and champion muslim extremists than support someone who articulates 100% conservative views but may not be "sincere".

          Yeah, right.
