The same guys who assured us that there were WMDs piled up in Iraq are at it again. This time they said Hosni Mubarak would resign on Thursday evening.
The Associated Press reports the “never mind” moment for CIA Director Leon Panetta:
CIA Director Leon Panetta says U.S. intelligence indicates that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is on his way out.
Panetta tells Congress that his information indicates Mubarak could be out by Thursday night. He says there is a “high likelihood” of that.
Panetta did not say exactly how the CIA reached that conclusion. He says Mubarak’s exit would be “significant” in moving Egypt to an “orderly transition” of power.
When the CIA screwed up its assessment of WMDs in Iraq, Democrats began howling that “Bush lied, soldiers died.”
We’ve been monitoring this situation very closely, but have not yet heard any Democrats saying, “Obama lied, Egyptians died.”

Interesting how the article failed to mention where he got his "intelligence." It was based on reports from the media. Yep, the most expensive department in our government and they're getting their information from CNN. Wow.
They think they had if bad under Mubarek. Wait til they see what it's like when the Muslim Brotherhood has a seat at the table.
i havent seen the news lately (so much work!) but i turned it on yesterday while i ate, and i swear people were cheering and shooting fireworks over something while shep smith just talked about how this might impact oil or something, did he not actually step down?
The Egyptian army controlled the country before yesterday and it controls the country today. Lots of promises were made but the basic power structure did not change at all.

I can remember that time period very well, and the only thing good that came out of it was Reagan getting elected in part due to Carter's overwhelmingly massive fail... With all due respect - the CIA, early after 9/11, was the only org that didn't have their heads up their asses. Afghanistan was executed quickly and the right people were paying. The WMD in Iraq thing was completely driven by the Pentagon and Rumsfeld - all they wanted from the CIA were selling points. To look at that history any other way is to completely have missed what happened.

Not defending Bush, but hasn't there been evidence that Saddam used WMD on his own people and that the stockpiles may have been flown out of the country prior to the war??
