Progressives (don’t you hate that affectation?) are pissed that President Obama caved in on the Bush tax cuts.
So the Progressive Change Campaign Committee just put out a new TV commercial. It makes it pretty clear that President Obama broke his campaign promise about tax rates. And it does it by using his own words against him.
Don’t get us wrong – we’re glad the tax rates got extended, but we love watching The World’s Greatest Orator (yeah, he was still held that title when this speech was made) claiming that the Bush tax cuts “offend my conscience.”

As in progressing down the path to socialism and the death of America?
Precisely.
Raise taxes, don't raise taxes. Spend 200 billion, don't spend 200 billion. You know what this bill does at the end of the day, it helps two sets of people. It helps the people who don't want to work for a living and it helps the rich keep a little more cash in their pocket. As far as anyone else, it does nothing. This is another bill that spends billions and yet will have no affect on me because I work for a living and don't have $10,000,000. (of-course the eventual collapse of the economy will have an affect on me, which this deal just adds to)
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to play the "class warfare" game or the "I've never been employed by a poor person" game, I am playing the "do something useful you stupid f--ks" game.
This to me is a sign worse than the unemployment numbers with regards to where our country is headed because it shows that the people in Washington, on both sides, only know how to play politics and nothing else. This stupid stand that both sides are taking does nothing to help the shit we are in, it does nothing to help either side politically, it just sucks. If you thought "Oh gee, the republicans won, we are so unscrewed now"- nope.
Let them use the progressive nameplate. It has equally reprehensible connotations from the early 20th century. In fact, after it gained a negative stigma from the Wilson administration, they expropriated the the term liberal under FDR to escape the shadow of unpopularity.
Classic liberalism used to imply the legacy of John Locke and the founders that the individual was sovereign and enjoyed inalienable rights from "Nature's God" that could not be taken away by a government.
FDR established the opposite definition and it continues to this date. Now they find the term "liberal" inconvenient. So they do what they do best... re-brand a bad idea.
Progressivism is the American term for socialist/communist/collectivist. To me, it does'nt matter if they call themselves liberals or progressives, they are a cancer in the political arena & in society in general.
DB you are absolutely right. BUT the Libs/progressives (And RHG, I agree!) have owned public education for a long time.
I'm thinking that Obomie isn't about liberalism/progressism. If you research Progressivism, they want a "new world order". They want a single world government and a single world currency. They use a variety of colorful names. But it is still all communism. (Currently they are calling what China is doing "State Capitalism". Nope. It is just socialism.) Here the government doesn't own (nor invest in) individual businesses, but it does tell them what to make, who to use for suppliers, and who to hire. And it they don't like you, they put you out of business. This system is totally run by corruption. It is extremely bad, and must be avoided. The majority of people live far less well, than the majority of people under capitalism do now.
Vic, I know, & I agree.
RHG, JFK may have been a lib back in the 60's, but there is no way in hell JFK would be in the Demacrat Party today. The Dems are closer to the CP-USA, not the Dem party of JFK's era. So they are way worse the libs.
JFK was absolutely, unequivocally a fiscal conservative. He also lacked the wuss component of the libs. Sure, he was a liberal - kinda - but nothing like RFK or that sot Ted. He had the moral makeup of a rabbit in heat, but he was more fiscally conservative than any president since, save for Reagan.
John F. Kennedy was a liberal. These guys are not J.F.K. They are progressives. Much worse than a liberal.
Where's our buddy donavan? I need him to explain why liberals have to hide behind the "progressive" label. You don't see Conservatives pulling a wussy name change.
Ironic, isn't it, that people without consciences would be so concerned?
