• Absolutely the truth, poignant, and spot on. We've got a lot of big fish to fry in this country to date, and one thing I know for sure is that the Obama administration is massively ill equipped to handle any of it.

• Will the LEGAL American citizens who came here LEGALLY ever stand up on this issue. If I were them I'd be irrate because I put in all the time and effort (although I don't find it to be that much) and did the right thing because I VALUED this country and would do everything in my power to stop others from coming here illegally. I saw an interview with a minute man who had come here from Mexico legally and watches the border now on a volunteer basis. Don't the rest of you legal immigrants give a shit that these people are cheapening what you have done to live here? I just don't get it and yea I took the test in class in school back in the day becoming a citizens in the U.S. is ridiculously simple compared to most countries, and yet has more benefits than coming to most other countries. Value it people. If we don't stop this what is our country worth?

• Lolz, I don't believe that for a second, redabogado, mainly because you are commenting about something on the internet. It seems a person with all that experience would know better, and if not, well then, that just serves to reinforce my assessment.   Please read it and educate yourself as to its implication so that you might stop talking in sound bites and catch phrases. Understand that the so called "socialism" referred to in this article was a disastrous culmination of brain washing (caused and easily manipulated by religious fervor, specifically apocalyptic thought, which seems to be a current focus for many of the protesters in Washington). As such it simply becomes a battle between two very different extremes who's ideals ironically seem to converge in mutual insanity. Calling me a Kool-Aid drinker because I am to the left politically is like me calling you a Klan member because you are to the right, and becomes just another exercise in the immaturity of the speech used in political discourse. If you are who you say you are, it makes me wonder where exactly you went to college, because it seems that discussions on philosophy and the political process might not have been a significant part of your college experience. Or maybe there were and you just closed your eyes and covered your ears tightly against something that might have offended your view of the world?

  • I graduated from a big-10 law school that was rated # 17 in the nation the year I graduated. I did not graduate in the top 10% of my class. I enjoy commenting on the internet, and do not feel it has any reflection on one's academic accomplishments. I am currently a Doctorate of Psychology (PsyD.) student, and work full-time as a college professor. My point in responding to you was that this forum is viewed and commented on by all sorts of people, including left thinking individuals which you have the courage of commitment to admit you are. You do not have to accept the fact that I am any of the things I say I am, but if I paint you with too broad a brush, my point is your comment about those of us who are to the right does not fit me or anyone I know and associate with. I applaud your right to express your opinions, I was in uniform for 26 years to the benefit for all Americans, not just ones I agree with. I am sadly disappointed with our President, and please don't paint me as a racist, my argument is with his policies. I disliked John Kerry more than BO due to treatment of war veterans. I also married to a woman of color and have two bi-racial, bi-cultural children who speak two languages, thanks to their mom. I have a Obama Socialist bumper sticker on my BMW, and so far no one has said anything to me at my school. Hooray for diversity of opinion!

• I like the admin note, too "almost exclusively the disgusting left." If it were a conservative commenting on a liberal web site, there would be (and is) much of the same thing. And who really are the angry nuts? What about the tea baggers in Washington? What about those people calling out for the impeachment of the president because they think he isn't a US citizen or that he is ruining our values or because he will bring about the apocalypse? Does none of that seem like hate filled ignorance to any of you? I doubt any of you would cry out against what was basically an illegal war, the destruction of our economy due to fiscal irresponsibility, that administration's acceptance and condoning of torture, the blatant lies about the "progress" of democracy in the Middle East, etc., etc., etc. But no. You don't notice any of that, do you? You notice when someone tries to make healthcare available to everyone for free. And that just makes you so angry, doesn't it? The money you pay in taxes might be used to provide medicine to other people, even to the impoverished, and especially to the sick. You get so upset when you have to give something to someone else. But what the hell have you really earned? The "greatest generation," those who actually fought for YOUR freedom is dead, and what have you fought for? More importantly, have any of you so called conservatives even attempted to actually EARN what their sacrifices made available to you? This country is suffering all because of people like you: lazy, ignorant, selfish, arrogant, stupid people. You are all the things that your God, your savior, commanded you not to be, yet you shout and gnash your teeth and get riled up while commanding others to be the very things you are not.

  • Edward, every word you say is true. Yet, you waste your time on those with thick blinders on. Some people will never see more than just themselves and some people will never care about anything more than just themselves. Why is it that this country gives more praise to a person in the military, trained to kill, than a teacher or doctor? I would be more proud of my children if they graduated college and did something good in this world, contributing knowledge or saved lives - not kill lives. Yet providing health care to our citizens is a bad thing? Talk about morals...

  • You might be surprised to learn that this writer is a full professor at a well known college with a J.D., completing a Phd. am honorably discharged disabled war veteran with 26 years in the Army, worked full-time to support myself in undergraduate as well as graduate school. The only stupid, lazy thing I've done is not make and drink the Kool-Aid, which apparently you have successfully done. I'll stack my families' long history of military service and my personal record of accomplishment against yours any day. Better pack your lunch. (bring your own Kool-Aid)

• This is great! Well, apart from the fact that he is referencing two relatively wealthy, well educated, healthy individuals entering a high status social function and using it as a metaphor for people entering another country in search of jobs, health care, education, etc. that is not available or completely ineffective in their own country. But, you're right, Jesus didn't say anything about helping the poor or the weary or the downtrodden. Each person for himself, especially in this country which has enough wealth to go around.

  • That's great Edward. So are we supposed to take in every person from another country that wants to come in. Let them have free health care and social security all the time they are here illegally. Let an American citizen try to do that in Mexico or another country. If you are so willing to let them come here then you should be willing to let as many as you can fit into your home. Let them stay there and not do anything, however you have to feed them and take care of their medical needs, and oh yes you have to give them money for the extra things they need. It's alright to help someone, but at some point they have to help themselves. You have an idealistic view of what should happen, however it's not a practical or realistic one.

As soon as you start labeling people as "them" (and not worthy of the same treatment that you deserve) you start de-humanizing them - may I remind you of the attitude of the typical German citizen during Nazi occupation. It's a slippery slope and one so easy for the followers to follow. However, I'm sure you're not a racist, sexist or homophobic person at all and I'm sure you never use "gay," "jew" or "retard" in an offensive way. But then again, Jesus created Americans as superior to all other humans, right? What did he teach?
