Tom Bergeron, the genial, long-time host of Dancing With the Stars spoke to Movieline. It appears that he has some very strong feelings about the liberal lunatics who see some dark conspiracy behind Bristol Palin’s success.
Let’s talk about this season of Dancing with the Stars. Can you gauge audience reaction during the taping? Is there noticeable commotion when Bristol Palin gets the lowest scores but isn’t eliminated? Or when—
Here’s the thing. Let’s address the Bristol thing. That’s the thing I get the biggest kick out of on the show. I’m going to put on my political hat. I’m a liberal Democrat, and I state that proudly. But I have no patience with my friends who believe there is a conspiracy keeping Bristol on the show. They’ll say, and they’re friends of a similar political persuasion though I have friends across the spectrum, “Oh, well! She’s still on the show! She’s obviously not the best dancer! She gets the lowest scores!” My response to that is similar to my response to the midterm elections. I’ll say, “OK, right. So who did you vote for instead of Bristol?” “Uh, well, I don’t vote!” “Well, then, f*ck you.” I mean, basically! You can clean that up. I have no patience for that! If you don’t participate to create a different outcome — and this can be true in national politics or a TV reality show — then don’t piss and moan if you don’t like the way it’s playing out. You know, I’m sorry! I think Bristol is clearly not the best dancer here, but she’s a charming young woman who’s shown an incredible growth from week one to this week. If she happens to get more votes for whatever reason, more power to her. If you don’t like it, vote for someone else. But that’s been the part of the show that’s amused me, how quickly people are to seize on conspiracy theories when people aren’t involved in the process.
Don’t you hate these mealy-mouthed, namby pamby TV show hosts who won’t express an opinion?

To be honest, watching someone dance is boring to me, but I decided to watch this year because of Jennifer Grey..I am no judge, I am a viewer. Unless one of them falls on there a*s they are doing better then me. I happened to like Bristol and voted for her along with others. I vote for the one who is most entertaining and most memorable, which was usually the dancers who got the lowest scores from the judges. I ended up liking Bristol and Kurt the best.
The bottom line is Bristol isn't her Mother. I am not a big Sarah fan, but I thought Bristol did well considering her lack of previous entertainment experience. What her Mother did in Alaska has nothing to do with her ability or lack thereof in DWTS. And you just give the entire family more ammuntion when you judge her as though she was a politician.
deb... i think you need to re-read what i said. i was specific by saying my problem isn't necessarily with bristol or her mother... it was that the same standard of approval has been applied to both without a real assessment of qualification and character (character being mostly on sarah).
So you researched and evaluated the experience and qualifications of Kurt Warner to be on DWTS? I am just saying that these are 2 very diverse fields and one should not overlap the other. If the judging was done solely on improvement, Bristol would have won hands down. I personally think Jennifer was shot up on pain pills that finale night. Her eyes were glazed and she was waaaay too giggly. Why was Brandy sent home? NONE of the contestants wins or loses based on their character or qualifications. Leave politics out of it!

because i think people should be more discriminate and informed about who they vote for... it suddenly makes environmentalists hypocrites for using petroleum? you're an idiot... last i checked our entire infrastructure is dependent on fossil fuels which environmentalists are trying to change... until our infrastructure can support more environmentally conscious choices, we're held hostage by tools like yourself who feel there's no need to change the status quo.
dirt? hun? look up her policy on the oil companies... i guess alaska having the highest oil prices is dirt? her state subsidies to oil companies is dirt? the road to no where, which was on the news by-the-way, was dirt? the land dispute over the sports arena, which is public record is dirt? the plane on ebay, which can also be found is dirt?... all fact, much of which was in the NYT and on the broadcast news covered. maybe not fox, they don't generally report news that doesn't speak favorably to conservatives or what people like yourself consider conservative. you see the problem isn't necessarily the palins, the problem is actually people like yourself who believe in them without actually knowing who they are. when i protested bristol palin's continued participation on DWTS, it wasn't because i have a particular problem with her, it was because stupid people are voting for the less qualified person which runs parallel to the stupid people who voted for her mother... the 1/2 governor of alaska who has proven over and over she is not qualified preach morality and responsibility to our country when she herself can't even find those qualities in her own home... so stop being duped by a moron.

Palin has beat every one of the ethics complaints that was brought against her. Good luck with those fairy tale claims. So he was exonerated, but still guilty. . . . wow that's strong stuff.

wes in mt, i actually did not cut and paste my rebuttal and the problem with the sports arena is not a bond issue, it's a land dispute where the arena was built on land that was not in the possession of wasilla, but privately owned. before the land dispute was resolved, the mayors office ok'd the building of the arena and roads and utilities that were specifically designed to support the arena. still a huge financial and legal burden for the town and has been sited by multiple sources as gross mismanagement. with regards to her son, i can't prove anything because he was exonerated after one of his friends changed their story. first saying he was involved and then later changing his story. the friend... was fined $4K and sentenced to probation and track palins, sudden and unexpected, exoneration was followed by an immediate enlistment in the armed forces, also sudden and unexpected, but it's all speculation... so you could be right, although i doubt it. with regards to oil taxation...it was an attempt, by palin to fullfill a political promise... which she did...kind of. alaska has the highest fuel cost in the nation because the oil companies passed the cost of the tax onto the consumer. it's a total wash and alaskans, on average, pay far more at the pump annually than they receive in a year end payout from the oil companies... not to mention sarah palin signatured huge state subsidies to the oil companies... so the "old bastards club" you refer to seems to have been considerably stroked by palin during her time as governor, all on the backs of alaskans.

FYI... i forgot to mention the road to no where that was to lead to the bridge to no where... why would the governor allow a 20ML road to be built when the bridge project was not assured and the road was actually built after the bridge project failed... did i mention the plane she put on "ebay"... she took it off ebay after a month and sold it to one of her campaign contributors at a huge loss to alaskans... oh yeah... she's really great...duh

The lamestream press, when they should have been vetting president dunham's past and lack of accomplishments (who writes not one, but two autobiographies by age 45???? only a narcissist) and his extreme associations, they descended on Wasilla to try and find anything on Sarah. As far as the accusation against her son, prove it. The debt you claim she left the town with were bond issues, which all municipalities do when they put in stuff like, oh I don't know, sewers or sports complexes. Also, the deal with the oil companies, renegotiated because the Old Bastards club had it rigged, ripping off the state. She replaced it with a program that paid the citizens more and also protected the oil companies when the price bubble burst, as they always do. Donavan, you are so .. .. . gay.

Those of us who support Palin do so because we see her as the only one out there who gets people motivated to make our country better - to reverse the slide to mediocrity that the left has in store for us and to throw off the soft tyranny that has been accelerating like a runaway train. Before you dismiss Palin and embrace the meme of the lame stream press, educate yourself on the woman's accomplishments and then ask yourself, "If she was a man, would I be as dismissive?" wes in mt... how can someone like sarah palin, who has been nothing but mediocre inspire people to strive for excellence? i'm glad that you, in your post mention her accomplishments... which are... what? she quit as governor so she could be a public speaker and promote her book and be a fox news contributor (which she later admitted on fox news). she left the town of wasilla in extreme debt when she was mayor and, let's not forget, the failed McCain Palin ticket. she is a strong advocate of abstinence and the one person who she should have had the most influence over, her daughter, got pregnant. her son, who joined the military did so because he was forced by a judge (jail time or military) because of public vandalism and the latest, her daughter willow was just on facebook, spouting homophobic slurs. she speaks constantly about lowering taxes on business in order to stimulate job growth, yet supported one of the largest taxations on oil companies alaska has ever seen... which is a clear redistribution of wealth. so... i would say if that's your standard of accomplishments, we clearly have a different understanding of the word. she's a fraud.
I just voted for Bristol, as I do each week. I want her to win so all the liberal Palin haters will have a complete meltdown. Grey shouldn't have been allowed on the show in the first place. This show should be for dance virgins, period.
I agree with Ann Althouse....She said that J. Grey should quit the whining. And also, she has used the late Patrick Swayze for sympathy [and I might add, MORE than once]
I don't normally watch the show, but I did last night. I really have to say I think it was CHEATING when J. Grey danced to a song from Dirty Dancing. REALLY! Don't care about her at all, but didn't dislike her, now I do and I think J. Grey has used every trick in the book to get the vote out for herself.....and quite so blatantly it's rather disgusting.

The only dancing Jennifer Grey has ever done was for DIRTY DANCING, in the stone age. The woman was in a MV accident and has a METAL POST in her neck. She's also 50 and obviously menopausal and constantly suffering joint injuries. If you deem her to be in an advantageous situation, then I contend that you're either misinformed about her or lacking a sense of balanced judgment. There have been contestants in the past (season 10, for example) who were clearly overqualified, but not this time.
I'm a former Dem turned Libertarian (and who believes in a govt according to the Constitution), and I like the Palins and would vote for Sarah for president. However, as a fan of dance, it's upsetting when those who most deserve to win the finale lose to those who have more of a voting block, such as when Giles Marini lost to the entire Olympic Team, who voted for that blocky, squat acrobat a few seasons back. I'm glad Bristol made it this far, and believe she deserved to, but if Jennifer Grey, who is much older and is dancing with a freaking metal post in her neck, loses to Bristol, that will be the end of the show for me. (And I add that in such a case, Palin supporters will have become the same type of sycophants that put Bobo into office.)
A great many people on this show are peole in the entertainment business (hence "dancing with the STARS") some in acting, some in music,some in dancing. I know we all have alzheimers, but remember Jennifer Gray was in Dirty Dancing a zillion years ago. She has just as much right to be there as the Osmonds, the multiple has been sports starts, the soap opera actresses, etc. Bristol is a reluctant celebrity, but she has done a good job. Give her credit, and if you don't think she should win, vote for someone else. I personally don't think Kyle should be there, but there you go.
