Singular solution to multiculturalism: Denmark buys back a border guardhouse so it can close its borders

The European Union’s grand experiment in open borders and multiculturalism has become a grand failure. Europe has suddenly rediscovered the old adage that says, “Good fences make good neighbors.”

We really hope the Danish People's Party made a nice profit on this real estate transaction

The New York Times almost chokes while reporting the story:

Ten years ago, as Denmark joined the European Union’s visa-free open travel zone, the outraged Danish People’s Party bought a decommissioned border guardhouse, vowing that one day it would be in use again. Back then, most Danes dismissed the move as a colorful publicity stunt by the newly formed right-wing party.

Ahhh, yes, in Europe, just as in the United States, leftists dismiss every right wing worry as uninformed at best and racist at worst.

But last month, the Danish People’s Party was doing a victory dance, offering to donate its picturesque brick guardhouse at the German border to the government. The party had achieved its goal: Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen had agreed to restore 24-hour customs control in exchange for support on a difficult budget package.

The deal set off an outcry in the European Union as tiny Denmark became the first member to seriously challenge the union’s crowning achievement: the free movement of goods and services across borders. Italy and France, wrangling over a huge influx of immigrants from North Africa, have been pushing for a lesser step — the ability to temporarily close borders in an emergency. This got the official nod of approval during a meeting of European leaders on Friday.

The Danes’ plan, on the other hand, has garnered a warning from the Eurocrats in Brussels who said the Scandinavian country’s plans are incompatible with its “obligations under European and international law.”

We think that’s what it said, but it’s difficult to tell because the Eurocrats’ warning was nearly illegible. But it’s not really their fault. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to write legibly while wearing blinders.

    • Actually, Harry, no they don't! This is an old saying and has a lot of merit to it for a whole host of reasons; initially fences helped keep your livestock off of another man's land. Cattle, oxen, draft horses, sheep, goats, pigs especially, chickens, ducks, geese all take a toll on one's property and you don't need another man's negligence to complicate matters. When it comes to one man's source of food and another man's livelyhood a fence makes for very good neighbors. The same can be said about unwanted populations coming uninvited into another man's country, wars have begun for less!

  • I've got two passports full of european stamps (yes real stamps, I'm that old) and marks. It was nice getting those as souvenirs.

It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up when the euros are waking up to socialism/collectivism's failure while the moron in the WH speeds us pedal to the metal to the inevitable failure those policies always bring. What scares me even more is that his approval numbers (even with the +10 points of over-sample of donks) are anywhere above 25%.

    • As with the European Union, those fools had to go to the bottom to see that their insane brand of liberalism wouldn't work. Now, with Obama, we're in the process of doing the same. Had McCain won, it would have been pretty ugly. But a taste of Obama style silliness was what it took to awaken the people to create the Tea Party. Too bad it does so much damage in the process.

  • I'm waiting for the NY Times to reveal that gravity is a myth, and all matter simply seeks to be near Obama.

    • Dearest Mr. Administrator and Mr. Editor:

Greetings and salutations! My hope is this note finds you well and thriving.

I wish to nominate Buck and Bruce for what could be the start of something great at IHTM.com. Though it is merely the lunch hour, and could turn out to be a long one for various reasons, would you consider these two for a "Comment of the Day" award?

Their respective posts are COMEDY GOLD in my opinion!

      Thank you and God bless.

      Sincerely, your friend,
      Ruben

  • Denmark's system worked fine for a small country with a similarly small population....but once others figured out the Danes had the "good life", in poured all the flakes wanting their handouts....now you have a country and culture in danger of getting overrun, but have no fear, the progressive won't care until the Islamist Danes start butchering the socialist ones....

    • True. I am sure it was a joke when people said "I am moving to Denmark becuase it is awesome." It stopped being a joke when the locusts came along. All these vampires are all the same. They move from country to country suck the life blood and once they have nothing else or they get wise and stop the freebies they move someplace else.

  • Biggest problem in Denmark is the influx of immigrants wanting government freebies. Sound familiar?

    • Yep.... absolutely. That sort of thing is unsustainable. It sounds good on paper but it is chaos in real life.

        • Yep. Help the poor, get rid of greedy business people, create jobs, make everyone the same... blah blah blah. It sounds good on paper because who doesn't want to help the poor and get rid of those who are greedy and taking advantage of people and who doesn't want people to have jobs and who doesn't want a society where no one is more powerful than another and hence creating inequality...?

The problem is that human beings are imperfect and even those with the best of intentions will never get it right especially if they look to government. Using government to right wrongs (even PERCEIVED wrongs) and thinking that govt create jobs instead of people and that only the govt is the true remedy for poverty ... that is all wrong... In real life no human led government will be able to "fix" the ills of the world. Looking to government is not the answer for anything that is wrong with this planet.
