Woodward and Bernstein helped bring down a president in the 1970s. Now O’Keefe and Giles are helping to bring down both ACORN and the fourth estate with their series of Internet videos. And the press is taking it none too kindly.
In response, they’re smearing the messenger instead of doing their job by spreading the message that ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Racketeering Now) is rotten to the core and that President Obama has a long history with the taxpayer-funded group.
The Washington Post once accepted anonymous revelations from a secret source known only as “Deep Throat” that proved damaging to the president of the United States in 1972. Yet now the same paper now questions the motives of two amateur reporters whose secretly filmed revelations are proving embarrassing to the current president.
Did the Post or any other news organization question Woodward and Bernstein’s motives back then? Of course not.
In a devastating piece, Dan Calabrese asks,
Why, exactly, do O’Keefe and Giles now have to defend themselves and their independence, when the result of their work clearly speaks for itself?
Part of the issue is obviously ideological bias. The mainstream media is far less happy to see a left-wing organization exposed as a criminal fraud, especially one so closely connected to the left-wing president in which they have so much invested.
But there is more to it than that.
O’Keefe and Giles represent the kind of new reality that threatens the very existence of media dinosaurs like the Washington Post.

While I do not put all my eggs into one basket with FOX, I have to say they are clearly winning out viewers for their conservative approach with Beck, O'Reilly, Hannity, and others. Still, FOX is not unbiased, because they represent two ends of the spectrum and fuel the fire with it. They do, after all, have Bob Beckel (what a laugh) and they get ratings from putting the extreme left into the spotlight. In all reality, FOX news has succumbed to equal time for the sake of their cat and dog fights between extreme liberals and Republican party conservatives. I am a hardcore conservative, not at all pleased with the Republican party or the Libertarian party. The mainstream media puts people like me on the shelf, along with stories they should run about organizations like ACORN. It is pathetic that a President can get elected while being such a beloved partner with ACORN. If the Republican party had a candidate tied to an organization that even so much as registered voters, the liberal media would be hounding them like dogs making up every manner of lies. ACORN has been exposed on every level except the level of the Presidency, and their ties with the President, except by FOX and conservative talk radio. And where is Obama hiding? In the cozy confines of the White House, setting up curtains and sneaking cigarettes when his wife isn't watching!
If the media were standing in a forest, and an asteroid hit them, would they report it or blame Bush?
I call them the MONKEY media in my blogging...Hear no, See no, Speak no (EVIL) of the Zero Admin. But stay tuned. They may SMELL..all too soon.
The formerly main stream media may well be on the way into history's trash heap. Except for Fox, most have embarrassed themselves over how they've covered this Presidency.

The media will at some point, have to acknowledge their failures. They are losing viewers by the boatload to FOX and will soon be competing amongst themselves for the remaining 25% or so of the US voting population that calls itself liberal.
