Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this guy is in charge of America’s energy future.
Congressman Joe Barton (R-TX) asked the energy expert where oil comes from and Steven Chu begins babbling about continental plates drifting around and geology and scientific stuff like that. But he finally bit on Barton’s bait and said, in effect, “Yes, the oil drifted up there.”
Kind of like this administration is drifting. Only slower.

First the earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes. I couldn't believe it.
My father's professor told him in 1970 that we would likely run out of oil by 1985.
Hes got a solid grasp of where oil comes from. I think my professor gave me the same story in my geology 101 class in college back in the mid 80's. The same professor said we would run out of oil by 2000.
Given the enormous depths that oil and gas are retrieved, its becoming more and more unlikely that oil and gas are not formed only from the breakdown of bio matter. It may very well be that it is a result of the activity of organisms living deep within the earth's crust. The theory supposes that there is in fact far more oil to be tapped than is now commonly believed to exist.
