French President Nicolas Sarkozy took a short break in making love to the world’s most gorgeous First Lady on Wednesday to join a growing chorus of world leaders who have condemned the miserable failure otherwise known as multiculturalism.
AFP has the uni-cultural details:
“My answer is clearly yes, it is a failure,” he said in a television interview when asked about the policy which advocates that host societies welcome and foster distinct cultural and religious immigrant groups.
“Of course we must all respect differences, but we do not want… a society where communities coexist side by side.
“If you come to France, you accept to melt into a single community, which is the national community, and if you do not want to accept that, you cannot be welcome in France,” the right-wing president said.
“The French national community cannot accept a change in its lifestyle, equality between men and women… freedom for little girls to go to school,” he said.
“We have been too concerned about the identity of the person who was arriving and not enough about the identity of the country that was receiving him,” Sarkozy said in the TFI channel show.
As we reported the other day, the leaders of Great Britain, Germany and Australia have also condemned multiculturalism recently.

Maybe because for the most part, no one with any integrity wants to be buddies with those that run the political machines. They also do not want to put their families through the incessant digging and searching for something to use to embarrass the candidate or otherwise affect his candidacy or his objectives while in office.
With such a beautiful wife, there is no way he is going to let her wear a burka. I sure dont blame him.
Finally they are starting to understand what multiculturalism is all about. "We will over run your culture and force you into ours."
Anyone remember when Al Gore screwed up the one phrase that sums up America....E Pluribus Unum? He said it meant, out of one, many.
THAT is how they think. Instead of the ideals that made America so great...That people from anywhere could come here and share an ideal. Out of many, one.
Keeping people separated DOES NOT work.
I understand those who felt the "melting pot" approach caused immigrants to completely cut off their children from their history, language and traditions, though that was not as common as most think. I don't have a problem with the "tossed salad" theory as long as you remember you are still in the salad. You can hold dear your family traditions, history, language, but remember that you are now an American, and that supercedes other cultural influences. All over the states we have celebrations that are based in the area's immigrant culture, from Cinco de Mayo to Chinese New Year to St. Patrick's day. There are foreign language papers in German, Russian Spanish, French, Chinese, and Lord knows how many others. But these groups also celebrate our Independance Day, Veteran's Day, Memorial Day. And until recently, most continued to teach children their native language in addition to learning English. Now they just want to create a little island of repitition of the culture they came from, good bad or ugly. Worng for them, wrong for the country as a whole.
All 4 of my grandparents came through Ellis Island. Two spoke no english and had to learn it. While they enjoyed their social clubs there was never ANY doubt that they were now Americans. Our collective embracing everything and everybody will dilute the glue that holds us all together.

It is a sad day when I am proud of a french leader than our own president.
At least the Sarkozy is playing for his team. Obama is playing aginst our team with predictable results.

But seriously, the French weren't always wussies, they did kick some very serious muslim butt a few centuries ago. Of course, the muslims then were just moving through; they weren't actually pitching camp, like they are now. It stands to reason that Sarkozy would be alarmed about his squatter problem, but then again, the French did invite in the very source of their own downfall! It may already be too late to help France without major bloodshed, or the rest of Europe for that matter.
You know, I was thinking about all the help the USSR and now Mother Russia have given Arab terrorists and terrorist causes over the decades and I came to a startling conclusion, they now have more than a 25% Muslim population inside their own borders...that's really, really bad for them! They may have cut off their noses to spite their faces...look at the problems we're having here in the States and we only have a 1% population. This makes me think that the Red Chinese played a part in emasculating Russia, though the Russians still have plenty of balls by our standards.
I don't know about the rest of you, but in my opinion, that woman is pretty.

The French historically jump in after others have taken the risks associated with such courageous statements, when it becomes fashionable and acceptable to do so. But, we welcome their contribution just the same and are grateful for it.
Thankfully Sarkozy is the President at the time of this awakening. If Royal had won the last election or Chirac was still in office, they'd be condemning the others for boldly speaking out.
You do have a point. Look at the history of France and you will see that the only war they ever won was their own Revolutionary war. Of course, that was Frenchmen fighting other Frenchmen so do you count it as a victory?
Maybe President Sarkosy will prove to be the first leader of France to have some guts, and smarts. We can only hope.
To be fair about it, under Napoleon, France was able to win some battles and expand its influence. But like Hitler and other megalomaniacs, he overreached and got his ass handed to him by the Duke of Wellington and the allies.
