Last time we checked, Elton John was still British. So let’s just set aside the fact that he couldn’t possibly be a second-class citizen in the United States because he’s not a citizen to begin with.
Nevertheless, the washed-up rock and roll star is pissy – very pissy indeed – about California’s gay marriage ban.
The Associated Press has the details:
The outspoken British piano man, who became a parent to a baby boy on Christmas Day with partner David Furnish, added that “as I get older, I get more angry about it.”
“In this country, we need more dialogue,” he said during an interview Friday. “We don’t need any more stone throwing. We don’t need any more vitriol. We need people to say, ‘OK. I’m straight. You’re gay. Let’s get along. I’m Republican. You’re Democratic. Let’s work together.’ I’m sick and tired of people being hateful to each other in this country.”
John disappointed some gay rights activists after California’s Proposition 8 banning gay marriage passed in 2008 when he said he had no desire to get married and was satisfied with his civil partnership in England.
He sang a different tune Wednesday when he praised the effort to overturn Proposition 8 and promised to do everything he could to support it, even though he is British.
A story from the Editor regarding Elton John’s devotion to equality:
I have a very good friend who is a muckeymuck executive with a major foreign corporation. One day I visited him in his office and noticed that he had a photo of himself with Elton John on his wall. Elton had one arm around my friend, the other arm around his wife, and a big smile on his face.
“Cool,” I said, “What’s Elton John like?”
He said his company had hired John to perform at a major corporate meeting. Part of the deal was that he would pose for photos with the executives and their wives after performing.
So after the show, which my friend said was terrific, the executives and their wives lined up to have their photos taken with John. According to my friend, John stood there sullenly and refused to speak to any of the executives as they had their photos taken. One by one, he robotically put an arm around each of them, flashed a big, phony smile for the instant each photo was taken, and then returned to his sullen, silent self. He chose to ignore the people who had just paid him a hefty fee to perform for an hour.
I think that if you asked my friend, he’d say Elton John treated him like a second class citizen.

The first concert I ever went to was an Elton John concert in the mid 70s with my brother when we were quite young. I think he's a genius but don't wanna really here about his personal life and am angered by an anti-Christian thing or two he's said in recent years.
Personally, I have no problem with "gays" having a civil union.
Why should us heterosexuals be the only miserable SOB's out there?
I don't care if they have av uncivil union. As long as they are productive members of society and not sucking on MY taxpayer dollars it affects me not in the least. If they want to get all militant on me I will respond in kind, just like I would with anyone else.
They treat me with respect and they will get the same, just like anyone else.
I do however have a problem with the MARRIED thing...that is between a man and a woman.
If they want to "have" kids, and can care for them and raise them properly, well, lets face it; The news is full of actual birth parents who have not managed to do so great.
Now, having said that...Elton: STFU you stupid poofter.Stick to singing and people MIGHT still provide you with a means of support. One of the great things about America is that you are still allowed to leave it if you wish. Feel free to take advantage of that freedom and stay in England.

Elton John is such a bitter, unpleasant, and all around grotesque queen. The public no longer has any interest in anything he says or does. Furthermore, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the public would be relieved if he never appeared in public again.

It would have been nice if you hadn't recycled your "Candle In The Wind" song away from Marilyn to Di...but you did and it truly diminished the song altogether and did nothing to honor either of those amazing women. Yep, about the same time he decided to tell the world he was gay. Personally, I could care less. You want to pack the poop with another man that is your business until you decide to tell the world about it. Then it becomes all our business and we can "poke" all the fun at you we deem fit.
I do have one question though. How did Sir John and Mr. Furnish "have a child" when neither one of them is a female? Shouldn't the headline read "Gay Pop Singer Elton John and Partner Adopt a Baby"? Unless someone is lying here I can guarentee neither one of them "had" a baby.

omg you have no idea how long it took to recover after I read that. That was hilarious.
And yes obviously they didn't have this child. It was via a surrogate Mother that I am sure got paid. Now it is possible one or the other gave their sperm but I don't know if that was the case.
