In the past, I shrugged off my right to vote due to my disdain for politicians, joking that “It only encourages them to run.” To my way of thinking, it didn’t matter which party was in office – Republican or Democrat – my life would not be changed. At the end of the year I may have a few dollars more or less in my pockets, but overall my world was not greatly affected.
But I can no longer remain ambivalent about my right to vote. After spending most of 2008 and 2009 in Vancouver, BC, I returned to a country that I don’t even recognize. Too many of my friends and family are out of work. Too many of the principles that made America great are being eradicated by the current administration. The first two years of Obamanation have been a disaster. Two more years of this socialist takeover and the damage may be irreversible. So this year, I vote.
Last week, while having lunch at a Chinese restaurant in Las Vegas, a woman walked in who looked like Sharron Angle. She was accompanied by only one person, and I thought, “Can’t be her, she would have more people around her.” Then I saw her smile that Chesire Cat grin and I knew it was her. More people arrived and joined her party as the restaurant scrambled to put tables together to accommodate them. Other diners began to ask to have their pictures taken with her, and she obliged.
As I was getting ready to leave, her husband walked past my table and I motioned him to come over for a minute. I told him I had just driven across the country from NJ to vote for Sharron, and I wished them success in the campaign. He wanted to call Sharron over but I stopped him, saying I didn’t want to interrupt her lunch. He said, “No, please, she is going to want to hear this” and he asked me to wait while he brought her over. When they approached, he asked, “Tell her what you just told me.”
And here’s the weird part – completely unexpected, totally out of nowhere, I was hit with a wave of patriotism like I had never felt before, and my voice faltered for a second. I came here to help her campaign and suddenly here I was, face to face with the woman who may very well be in the most important race of the midterms, the woman who is poised to remove one head of the hydra that is Obama-Reid-Pelosi. I told her I came all the way here from NJ, to vote for the very first time in my life. To vote for her.
And . . . she hugged me.
After I got over the initial shock I realized – this is the woman the left has smeared as “extreme and dangerous?”
Yeah, sure. Extremely grandmotherly, maybe.
Sharron and Ted Angle stayed with me for about five minutes, discussing politics and policy. She said part of the reason she made the decision to run for the senate was the same reason I was going to become a first time voter – she found that our country was becoming unrecognizable, and much of the fault lay with Harry Reid, architect of the Cornhusker kickback and all the backroom deals contrived to pass the calamitous Obamacare, and purveyor of the failed two billion dollar stimulus plan.
The Angles were gracious and kind, and Sharron was passionate about the issues affecting our country at this most unique moment in history. Before parting, I vowed to volunteer some of my time to work at their campaign headquarters, and they offered heartfelt thanks.
They left, after expressing gratitude to me for having shared my story with them.
I left, grateful that I had the opportunity to meet and speak with the next Senator from the (sometimes) great state of Nevada.

I hope this article inspires other non-voters to come out and support Sharron Angle. Casting a vote in this election can make a much bigger change in your life then a few dollars in your pocket at the end of the year.
I bet Nancy was just as gracious when she ran. Nobody NICE runs for public office because of the slander and muck racking done. THEY ARE ALL SOCIOPATHS. Every last one of them! Some are better for us than others like Angle is to Pelosi but please don't blow rainbows up our asses.
SoberVoter, ya coulda fooled me. One of the things I always knew, but was re-enforced, when I decided on a sober lifestyle was that I am ultimately responsible for myself. Sure I could, and need, people to lean on, but not leach from. Nobody can change any facet of my life any more than myself. I was taught to pray for people that disagree w/me. Hopefully they will see the error of their thinking/ways, and be a better person in the end. But calling someone stupid? I hope you are not in any sort of recovery program, lest the fellowship take a hit for your slander. If your vitriol cannot be contained, please change your handle. Uhmkay? God Bless. I am and always have been in complete control of my life. Try searching for definitions outside a twelve-step book once in a while. Uhmkay?
Sorry if I offended you SV. Keep up the illusion of being in "complete control". That smugness (restraint?) suits you well. We both could get hit by a bus tommorrow on our way to cashing in a big lottery ticket.
And yeah, I read nothing but 12 step material/sarc. Maybe I'll try D-Kos or MoveON. Seems all the kool kids are doing it, and they seem happier for it. BTW, I didn't thumb ya down.
You're right, I could get hit by a bus tomorrow...but that's not within my control. Getting hooked on drugs or alcohol, or not getting an education, or not securing meaningful employment to support myself and my family... all within my control and I control them to the best of my ability. But yes, you're right I could get hit by a bus. That would really suck. Good point.
As for D-kos or MoveON I have no idea what that is. Seriously, you'll have to explain that so I know what you're talking about. (No sarcasm, mean that sincerely)

If Massachusetts can elect a conservative to a seat held for decades by a liberal, then there is hope that Nevada will do the same. I dream of waking up to news reports that Harry Reid has been sent packing on his very own permanent Vegas Vacation.

1. Perhaps someone should explain to her that we were losing 700k jobs a month when the previous administration left. You know, because she seems to think that had something to do with this administration.
2. Since when is Vancouver so far away you don't know what's happening in America? Was she under a rock in a cave set deep in a forrest in Vancouver? Seriously, is no one else shocked at the stupidity of that claim?

SoberVoter is voting Republican tomorrow (for the most part). Wouldn't vote for Angle even if I could though. Just cause someone puts a label next to their name doesn't make them qualified. She has said many stupid things. Harry Reid (who's no Rhodes scholar himself) is a far better choice.
Sharron did not leave in those years learn to read Sonny did. Sharron is indeed a nice woman with Morals and yes it takes some real guts to have morals and run. And I Know this woman, she was at one time my piano teacher, later she was my teacher/principal.
I'm sold. I had no idea that Angle was once dedee's piano teacher and later her teacher/principal.

Ummmm....I think you missed the top and bottom part of the article that reads, "Guest post by Sonny Palermo" and "Written by Sonny Palermo."
Might want to sober up a bit more.....
So you're accusing him of libel? Either Angle said it and Palermo repeated it, or Angle didn't say it and Palermo committed libel. In either case, I am merely repeating what she said, or what he lied about. If she said it I'm right about her making a ridiculous statement. If she didn't, I'm exonerated and Palermo should be sued.
For simplicity, let's just rename the article, "When Sonny Met Sharron". It was written by Sonny Palermo ABOUT him meeting Sharron Angle in a Chinese restaurant in Las Vegas. She never said she was out of the country for 2008 & 2009, NOR was she in Vancouver, BC...IT WAS SONNY! He never even quotes her...he paraphrased/summarized their 5 minute talk, but only quoted her husband, Ted.
What is it about this article that you are confused about?
BTW, if I was going to accuse anyone of anything, especially libel, I would back it up with facts and just the facts.
That gave me warm fuzzies!
