In an effort to relate to the little people who are out of work, Michelle Obama wore a second-hand dress to a Washington Christmas party. What’s that? The second-hand dress cost her 2500 smackers? Holy crap!
The New York Post has details of the horrifying haute couture:
Michelle Obama is once again setting the style world abuzz — wearing a thrift-store dress to the “Christmas in Washington” concert, which was taped Sunday and airs on TNT tonight.
The “couture” black-lace overlay frock, featuring a high, square neckline and a full skirt was plucked from New York Vintage in Chelsea.
The secondhand 1950s piece — believed to be the first vintage dress worn by a first lady to a public event — was made by American designer Norman Norelli, who died in 1972 and was among the most influential designers of his time.
The store’s owners would not say how much the first lady paid for the dress, but prices for vintage clothing have risen dramatically as quality pieces have become wildly popular among celebrities and on the red carpet. One estimate for this hand-me-down was $2,500.
$2500 for a second-hand dress. That’s nearly eight times that average annual income in Kenya, a country chosen entirely at random for comparison purposes only.
Michelle Antoinette really is the perfect nickname for this woman, isn’t it?

Yay. yawn. Michele and her husband are both horses asses who flip on any public message they have stated. "and told Jay Leno that she has more MODEST TASTE "Actually, this is a J. Crew ensemble," she said of her yellow sweater, skirt and blouse ensemble. "You can get some good stuff online," she added." Yeah real modest and thrifty to charge us only 2500 for thrift store clothes. Well lets see with a staff of over 100 people, airplane trips around the world, vacations in paris hawaii asia etc. it sure looks like she's just a liar that cant wait to spend our money. Thanks Jackie O. You ruined the hard working ability of women for how long by dumbing down the position of First Lady. Now every nincompoop wants to redecorate and go shopping on our dime because they try to outshine you.

The Obama's came to Washington like the Hillbilly's came to Beverly. Clothes on their backs and not much else, but since then have found the wherewithal's to spend far more money in a busy week than he earns in a year. The Bush family, while not rich, are certainly very well off, and the Kennedy's had billions in rum-running cash to spread around, so any comparison is pretty far off the mark.
I was trying to figure out how the fashionistas would even dream of saying that this was a good style moment. Then it hit me. The designer's dead. They can all copy the design for nothing. Fashion is mining the Public Domain! All's they need is for some dim bulb to be a shill. That would certainly explain why so many Hollywood types are doing this.
Although it is a sad sign of the times that they so profoundly lack ideas that they have to mug dead people's estates (must be a lib thing -- as with the death tax -- buncha necrosocialists), I look forward to seeing more dresses like this. Now if Coco would kick the bucket, some of her dresses from that era could come back, and those had class, style, and elegance.

If she is trying to imitate Sarah Palin "thrift shop buys", It takes more than a $2,500.00 2d hand beautiful dress to qualify. In this dress, she looks well dress, as in many other I have seen , yet she is definitively a puzzle for she is not a constant in the best dress category.
Some other women don't need fancy clothing to shine, like Michelle does.
Yet, with or w/o a elegant or mediocre dress, Michelle Antoinette will continue to hold her title of the most despotic un- American first lady, who has a "Anorexic death wish" to the American people.
I have no problem with a woman having "big" hips or "big" ass because many women (like myself) do have them and are not fat and know how to wear clothes well, the problem with her is that her clothing tends to not showcase her figure appropriately. This dress does look good on her better I would say that the white dress she wore at the inaguration and the arms are not bad either they are toned, but they look less bulky to me unless it is the angle or something. In any case I got no problem with this dress whatsover. There are other examples of stuff she has worn that should cause more annoyance.
If the price is an issue this dress could have very easily cost 10 K - 50 K. A couture vintage dress with a history and a designer that is no longer living and was famous at his time for 2.5 K? It is actually not a bad price at all. I don't know why she went this route, but considering the alternative I can commend her for going for something that is couture and vintage yet not costing an arm and a leg (comparatively speaking had she bought something else). I don't mind the First Lady (no matter who she is) to wear expensive or "expensive" clothing as long as she looks good in the clothing and not embarrassing me (and the country) all over the world as Michelle tends to do.
I am sure that Mrs. Bush wore very expensive and appropriate gowns in her day and if we are going down memory lane Jackie Kennedy-Onnassis and so on and so forth.
I personally think knowing about Marie Antoinette as I do that she would seriously dislike being compared to Michelle...

Us little people need to put it into perspective, MichelleAntonetta, once she returned from her $75,000 a day vacation, took off her casual tennis shoes ($575) and had another of her Lobster lunches for $550, it was time to have one of her personal assistance's (1 of 21, at a little over 1 Million a year in tax dollars) help her pick out a dress that would not be too flashy, something to help identify her with those of the governmental aphid farm the politicians and their families milk whenever they need something.
Oftentimes you see a photo of Michelle Obama where she looks unhappy or angry. Of course, she IS married to Barack.
