Who’s who and who’s shoe?

The media says Michelle is the new Jackie Kennedy and we say, “Could be.” After all, the former First Lady hasn’t been seen wearing anything fashionable since early 1994, either.

This is a shot of the Obama clan being greeted in Brazil by Brazilian President Whoever. Or some other Brazilian woman. We’re really not sure.

BigFurHat, world-renowned fashionisto over at iOwnTheWorld.com, said, “I’m convinced Mooshell is color blind, and I don’t mean she’s a non-racist.”

The Obama austerity program in action: Michelle’s new $1000 purse

Michelle Obama’s new purse is a Reed Krakoff two-tone ribboned large tote, and you can get it at Mr. Krakoff’s website for $990.

We’re simple guys here at IHateTheMedia.com. So simple that we didn’t even know they made purses that cost $1000 nor the difference between a purse and a tote.

WhiteHouseDossier.com has the hilarious details:

It’s a Reed Krakoff two-tone ribboned large tote, and you can get it at Mr. Krakoff’s website for $990, plus shipping I guess. But we don’t worry about shipping. Fedex it, in fact.

No wait a second, you can’t get it, because it’s already sold out, at least in the teal color she got.

Love it with the blue slippers, BTW. It just WORKS, okay?

Of course, Michelle has asked ordinary Americans to sacrifice and this is her way of showing that she can sacrifice, too. After all, she’s not wearing her $2500 second hand dress nor her $540 tennis shoes.

Michelle’s austerity program: First Lady wears second-hand dress to White House Christmas party

In an effort to relate to the little people who are out of work, Michelle Obama wore a second-hand dress to a Washington Christmas party. What’s that? The second-hand dress cost her 2500 smackers? Holy crap!

Some of the nouveau riche don't really care about the nouveau poor

The New York Post has details of the horrifying haute couture:

Michelle Obama is once again setting the style world abuzz — wearing a thrift-store dress to the “Christmas in Washington” concert, which was taped Sunday and airs on TNT tonight.

The “couture” black-lace overlay frock, featuring a high, square neckline and a full skirt was plucked from New York Vintage in Chelsea.

The secondhand 1950s piece — believed to be the first vintage dress worn by a first lady to a public event — was made by American designer Norman Norelli, who died in 1972 and was among the most influential designers of his time.

The store’s owners would not say how much the first lady paid for the dress, but prices for vintage clothing have risen dramatically as quality pieces have become wildly popular among celebrities and on the red carpet. One estimate for this hand-me-down was $2,500.

$2500 for a second-hand dress. That’s nearly eight times that average annual income in Kenya, a country chosen entirely at random for comparison purposes only.

Michelle Antoinette really is the perfect nickname for this woman, isn’t it?

Michelle Obama named to Vogue’s best dressed list. No, seriously.

The people at Vogue are still drinking the Kool-Aid. In fact, they’re swilling it. Need proof? How about the fact that they just named Michelle Obama to their Best Dressed of 2010 list.

The people at Vogue are still drinking the Kool-Aid. In fact, they’re swilling it. Need proof? How about the fact that they just named Michelle Obama to their Best Dressed of 2010 list.

They introduced the list with this gag-inducing, overwritten, under thought out prose:

Whether it’s sleek chic or cyberfantasy, silver-screen Hollywood glamour or Holly Woodlawn camp, whether it’s East End edge or East Egg flapper dazzle, from head (artful marcel waves, tumbled-out-of-bed tousle, or candy-floss high-rise) to toe (ballet slippers with dirndls or platforms with ball gowns), the ten individualists whom Vogue celebrates as the Best Dressed of 2010 are gamely rewriting the rules. Or rather, showing us all that there are no rules beyond staying true to oneself.

Let’s get serious, Vogue.

We were expecting another story like this to come along sooner or later, so we’ve been collecting recent photos that more accurately reflect Michelle Obama’s sense of fashion when she’s truly “staying true to herself.”

Strict new dress codes introduced in Manchester, New Hampshire schools

School dress codes aren’t that unusual, you might say. So why have we bothered telling you about this one? Because the code is aimed at teachers, not students.

Miss Smithers, a high school English teacher, demonstrates a violation of the new Manchester, New Hampshire teacher dress code

The Manchester, New Hampshire school committee voted 11-1 Saturday to enact a strict new dress code for that bans 15 clothing items. Anyone who violates the dress could face disciplinary action.

School dress codes aren’t that unusual, you might say. So why have we bothered telling you about this one? Because the code is aimed at teachers, not students.

Here are the articles of clothing that have been banned:

  • Jeans
  • T-shirts that have writing, pictures or are considered underwear
  • Tank tops
  • Shorts
  • Sweats, wind suits and gym clothes
  • Spandex
  • Flip-flops
  • Sneakers
  • Tops that are low-cut, cropped, tube or have spaghetti straps
  • Sheer clothing
  • Short skirts that are more than 2 inches above the knee
  • Skirts with front slits more than 2 inches above the knee
  • Clothes with holes
  • Pajamas
  • Facial piercings

We can only assume that those dedicated teachers who wore pajamas to school were simply attempting to bring efficiency to the act of sleeping with their students.

A little more stimulus, please. Michelle Obama’s fashion designer goes belly up

Cash-for-Clunkers was a fiasco. But don’t be surprised if the President tries to stimulate the economy with a new program called “Cash-In-Fashions.” It’ll be a program where you’ll get a new dress when you bring in an old one that can be recycled.

If Maria Pinto was responsible for this little number, she probably deserved to go out of business

Cash-for-Clunkers was a fiasco. But don’t be surprised if the President tries to stimulate the economy with a new program called “Cash-In-Fashions.” It’ll be a program where you’ll get a new dress when you bring in an old one that can be recycled.

As the New York Times reports, this kind of drastic action may be necessary because the First Lady’s personal fashion designer is closing her doors:

Remember the purple sheath Mrs. Obama wore the night of the fist bump heard round the world? The teal number at the Democratic National Convention? Or the red dress she wore to meet the Bushes on their way out of the White House? Maria Pinto all, designed right here where both women were born and raised and, over the course of one remarkable election, became stars.

So when Ms. Pinto abruptly put up a “closeout sale” sign in the window of her West Loop boutique and announced that she was folding her fashion business, Chicago — and Pinto devotees all over — reacted with disbelief: What in sartorial heaven happened? “I pushed as far as I could,” Ms. Pinto, 53, said in her first lengthy interview since the demise of her store and wholesale operations in mid-February.

Just back from a month’s break in Barcelona, she pointed to the strain that a sour economy had placed on her business just as it was expanding and gaining major traction beyond a loyal Chicago following.

We love this wacky storyline that says Michelle Obama is the new Jackie Kennedy. Her huge booty have been home to some of the worst outfits ever seen on a First Lady.

Maybe Pinto can get a job as a census worker. We hear they’re having trouble filling those jobs.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates and his wife comment on Michelle Obama’s latest fashion statement

We can’t verify the quotes, but according to their faces, the conversation went something like this:

Gates: Good lord, Becky, that dress looks like hotel carpet.

Becky Gates: You need to stay in better hotels.

Is Michelle Obama the new Jackie Kennedy? A new book says yes, reality says no.

Given the raging success of Mrs O the website, which chronicles the fashion statements by the Most Glamorous First Lady In History, a book was a foregone conclusion.

Given the raging success of Mrs O the website, which chronicles the fashion statements by the Most Glamorous First Lady In History, a book was a foregone conclusion. And, of course, reviews of Mary Tomer’s Mrs O have been nothing less than stellar

Jackie Kennedy never wore an outfit that made her belly look like the Michelin Man's

“Tomer’s is at least the third fashion-related book on the first lady, and so far, it’s the most comprehensive, tracing Obama’s style from that frigid day in Springfield, Ill., when her husband announced his candidacy to the first lady’s springtime tour of Europe,” Politco.com noted.

“[Tomer] spoke with more than 40 designers for the book, which includes two-page interviews with such Obama favorites as Jason Wu, Loree Rodkin, Isabel Toledo and Peter Soronen. It’s also filled with fabric swatch close-ups, dress shots (both famous and less well known) and displays the thoroughness of a librarian in cataloging the origins of Obama’s many brooches, pins and patent-leather heels,” the Washington Post raved.

But here’s the only review you really need:

“Only on a planet where Barack Obama is considered a moderate, where a tax cheat is named Secretary of the Treasury, and where a pervert is put in charge of safe schools, could Michelle Obama be called ‘the new Jackie Kennedy,'” said IHateTheMedia.com.

And now to prove our point, let’s take a journey around le monde du faux pas de mode de Michelle Obama (for those of you who aren’t up to speed on your French fashion lingo, that means “the world of Michelle Obama’s fashion don’ts”).

The Grand Canyon. Hey, c’mon, we’re talking about the landscape.

J. Crew booted: Michelle Obama orders custom, thigh-high leather boots from expensive French designer

Remember way back in the good ol’ days (Translation: prior to November 4, 2008) when Michelle Obama created the fiction that she was just a regular gal who shopped at J. Crew? Well, those days are now long gone and forgotten.

Remember way back in the good ol’ days (Translation: prior to November 4, 2008) when Michelle Obama created the fiction that she was just a regular gal who shopped at J. Crew?

Well, those days are now long gone and forgotten.

How many cows died to cover the First Lady's lovely thighs?
How many cows died to cover the First Lady's lovely thighs?

The Most Glamorous First Lady in History just placed an order for two outrageously expensive pairs of custom-made, high fashion boots — one pair of flat black boots and another pair of calf-length boots in beige buckskin — from French designer Robert Clergerie.

The First Lady must be getting ready for another appearance at a charity food bank and the $540 pair of Lanvin tennis shoes she wore last year are undoubtedly completely worn out by now.

Of course, outrageously expensive clothing was not part of her image during the presidential campaign. Back then, the media helped created the fiction that she regularly sported affordable sweaters carefully selected at J. Crew and reasonably-priced Anne Klein dresses purchased with pennies scrimped and saved from her meager household budget.

The price of Empress Michelle’s new shoes hasn’t been revealed. But we are willing to guarantee that it’s more than you paid for your last pair of shoes. Maybe even more than your last house payment.

Paris law makes it illegal for women to wear pants. Hillary to break diplomatic relations?

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton must be livid. Turns out Paris still has a law on the books that prohibits women from wearing pants. That, of course, makes her world-class collection of pant suits worthless in the City of Lights.

hillary_pantsuit

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton must be livid. Turns out Paris still has a law on the books that prohibits women from wearing pants. That, of course, makes her world-class collection of pant suits worthless in the City of Lights.

The Telegraph UK reports this odd tale from the land of ungrateful frogs and women with hairy arm pits:

The rule banning women from dressing like men – namely by wearing trousers – was first introduced in 1800 by Paris’ police chief and has survived repeated attempts to repeal it.

The 1800 rule stipulated than any Parisienne wishing to dress like a man “must present herself to Paris’ main police station to obtain authorisation”.

In 1892 it was slightly relaxed thanks to an amendment which said trousers were permitted “as long as the woman is holding the reins of a horse”.

Then in 1909, the decree was further watered down when an extra clause was added to allow women in trousers on condition they were “on a bicycle or holding it by the handlebars”.

In 1969, amid a global movement towards gender equality, the Paris council asked the city’s police chief to bin the decree. His response was: “It is unwise to change texts which foreseen or unforeseen variations in fashion can return to the fore.”

The latest attempt to remove the outmoded rule was in 2003, when a Right-wing MP from President Nicolas Sarkozy’s UMP party wrote to the minister in charge of gender equality. The minister’s response was:

“Disuse is sometimes more efficient than (state) intervention in adapting the law to changing mores.”

“They can kiss my ass,” Hillary reportedly muttered.

To which Nicolas Sarkozy responded, “Ce, ma cheri, serait un emploi à plein temps.”

Translation: That, my dear, would be a full-time job.”

Michelle Obama, the Most Fashionable First Lady Ever

michelle-obama C’mon, now, surely this ensemble will convince even the most ardent Michelle Obama worshippers that Michelle Obama is not America’s First Lady of Fashion.

She showed dressed like your grandmother at Arlington National Cemetery on Veterans Day.

OK, maybe your grandmother never wore disco boots and maybe she wasn’t built like an NFL linebacker, but if she had and if she was, she would have looked something like this.

And one more thing: enough with the ammobelt, Michelle. Nobody’s looked good wearing one since Pancho Villa.

Michelle Obama fashion contest A website devoted to The One’s number two is hyping a new dress-up game.

That’s right. Mrs-O.org is promoting a contest in which you can win $150 for dressing a digital Michelle Obama in the best combination of fashion items.

You could dress her as a fearless First Lady. Or as a hospital Vice President plotting a patient dumping scheme. Dress her for an America-hatin’ Sunday morning in Reverend Wright’s church. Dress her for a date night in New York city at the taxpayer’s expense. Why, the possibilities are virtually endless.

In what can only be considered a major fashion faux pas, the list of fashion items includes neither a burka nor a linebacker uniform.

Fashionistas think Michelle Obama can do no wrong

President Obama and The Most Glamorous First Lady Ever attended a Medal of Honor ceremony for U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Jared C. Monti who was killed in Afghanistan in June 2006. Some critics said her attire was more appropriate for a garden party.

Is this an appropriate dress to wear to a posthumous Medal of Honor ceremony?
Is this an appropriate dress to wear to a posthumous Medal of Honor ceremony?

President Obama and The Most Glamorous First Lady Ever attended a Medal of Honor ceremony for U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Jared C. Monti who was killed in Afghanistan in June 2006.

Mrs. O showed up in a floral frock with a bold, red rose print, accessorized with green kitten heels and chandelier earrings.

Some critics said her attire was more appropriate for a garden party than a solemn ceremony honoring an American hero, but the Michellistas at a website called Mrs-O.org disagreed. Oh, did they disagree.

Read on. But be prepared to be either amused or horrified by their blind, over-the-top idol worship.

  • Mrs. O You ROCK! Love love love the dress and the shoes. Mrs O with a body like that you make fashion look like fun.
  • Is it just me, or does our First Lady get more beautiful every day?!
As far as the dress is concerned, I do love it.
  • I swear this woman is living my life. LOL! I looooooove this couple. They are so in synch with each other on so many levels its crazy. Sigh…someday my prince will come. Anywhoo, love the looks. Its goes great with their intelligence and strong values. I am saying Mr and Mrs O are not just a look.
  • Omigod, that dress is awesome! Honestly, I love that I can’t right away tell it’s flowers, it just looks like bold color. It’s also a really flattering cut for her.
  • No denying how breathtakingly lovely Mrs Obama is. Oh my goodness, she is lovely and yet so down to earth and has her act together. She is the complete package, no question about it – Mr President sir, you are a very lucky man.
  • Mrs. O looks stunning in the floral wrap dress! I absolutely love the print and the choice of shoe color. Mrs. O is so fashion-adventurous. Women of America, take note. Bland and boring is out and color and bold accessories are in. She also looks great at the outdoor market. Don’t we all wish we could look so polished while shopping for produce!
  • She looked crazy beautiful today. Love anything on her with a v-neck. And I also liked her hair with less volume on top. It’s different and looks more youthful on her than the volumized hair.
  • Mrs. O looks even more fabulous than usual here. Full of life, bold color and the fit is exceptional. She looks pretty hot (in a classy way). I also always love it when she does an unexpected pop of color with her shoes. The President is a lucky man (and she is a lucky woman).
  • Michelle is smoking hot in that dress!! I know wot I’ll be wearing this Spring/Summer

Gwyneth Paltrow: It isn’t easy being pseudo-green

For Gwyneth Paltrow, going green doesn’t mean giving up her designer duds. The actress recommends trying out Stella McCartney’s new Eco Collection, which ranges from $435 to $1535 and is made from 100% organic cotton and recycled materials

Don't know if this ensemble is greeen, Gwyneth, but it's definitely red hot
Don't know if this ensemble is greeen, Gwyneth, but it's definitely red hot

Did anyone happen to notice the moment when Gwyneth Paltrow went from being cute as a button to being nuttier than a fruitcake?

The out-of-touch leftist actress recently got together with her gal pal Cameron Diaz to tell the little people how to go green.

People magazine reports: “For Gwyneth, going green doesn’t mean giving up her designer duds. The actress recommends trying out Stella McCartney’s new Eco Collection, which ranges from $435 to $1535 and is made from 100% organic cotton and recycled materials, available at Stella McCartney stores…Cameron’s stylish picks include green footwear including Olsen Haus vegan shoes available at camillaboutique.com. ‘Olsen Haus shoes are vegan and natural linen; they are fun and sexy with a pair of skinny jeans,’ says Cameron.”

Got that? $1535 for some designer duds made out of recycled materials. Or if you’re in a bargain hunting mood, as little as $175 for a pair of shoes.

You know what would be really good for the environment, Gwyneth? Wear some of that crap more than once.

CNN reports that Michelle Obama has a nice, firm pair of…

michelle_obama_vogue_coverArms, for God’s sake. The story is about Michelle Obama’s arms. Get your mind out of the gutter.

But consider it proof that there is no aspect of the Obamas’ lives too trivial to be glorified by the press.

CNN breathlessly reports that Michelle Obama’s arms are very toned. She can be seen on the March cover of Vogue magazine (gasp) in a sleeveless dress. She also (double gasp) wore a sleeveless dress to the president’s speech to the joint session of Congress. And now (triple gasp) she’s on the cover of People magazine in yet another sleeveless dress.

“The Obama effect has been that women of all ages have been inspired to take responsibility for their health and their body,” said Rylan Duggan, a personal trainer who runs a company called Go Sleeveless.

Thanks to CNN’s hard-hitting report, we now know that women are inspired by the fact that Michelle Obama is sleeveless.

No word yet on who’s inspired by the fact that her husband is shameless, blameless, careless, and relentless.
