Just as young Mexicans flee Mexico looking for jobs and better lives, young New Yorkers are fleeing the Empire State in search of the same things. The only real difference is that Janet Napolitano doesn’t greet the New Yorkers with milk and cookies when they cross the border.

The New York Daily News reports the emigration information:
A new Marist College poll shows that 36% of New Yorkers under the age of 30 are planning to leave New York within the next five years — and more than a quarter of all adults are planning to bolt the Empire State.
The New York City suburbs, with their high property values and taxes, are leading the exodus, the poll found.
Of those preparing to leave, 62% cite economic reasons like cost of living, taxes — and a lack of jobs.
“A lot of people are questioning the affordability of the state,” said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion.
Cost of living. Taxes. Lack of jobs. Sound like lyrics from a song called The Blue State Blues. Look for it on new albums from Sheryl Crow, the Dixie Chicks and Barbra Streisand.

What upsets me is that they move to a better state and then get homesick for the progressive dogma that ruined theres and seek to make the new state a mirror of the one they left behind. It is a crappy cycle.
Please, stay the hell out of Jersey. Between the real illegals and you opportunistic NYC expats, my home state is filled to the brim with trash. Go to Californication!
I'm a former New Yorker who bailed out of the Empire State almost 25 years ago. I have eight neices and nephews who, like me, grew up on Long Island. Five of them have already left New York for the states of North Carolina, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida and Texas. A sister of mine has retired and also moved to North Carolina while my second sister is considering move there too. Notice the trend here? Most of my family is headed south of the Mason-Dixon line. Right now I live in Wisconsin but I've bought a condo in Myrtle Beach, when I retire I plan on spending the winters in the sunny south.
Right now New York's biggest exports are college graduates, young people and retirees. New York used to be a great palce to live but not anymore, the taxes suck, the job market sucks, the roads suck and the politicians suck most of all.
Andre's right, I worry that the people fleeing states like New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Massachusetts and (especially) California will vote in the same miserable, thieving politicians they fled from.
Just wait. The NLRB will not stand for this. Americans going some where the cost of living is less and getting away from the heaviness of taxes. How dare them.
Give Mayor Bubblegum and Gov Guido a few days and they'll have check point Charlie up and running all along the NY border in an attempt to squeeze the last few cents out of those departing their heavy taxes and wasteful spending.
Yes, its inevitable- as a New Yorker who loves his state, its very sad. The Democrats exploit illegal immigrants to protect their districts with inflated census numbers and disenfranchise rural new yorkers. New York Republican leadership is clueless, spineless, and presents about an attractive message as Joy Behar doing an ad for a nudist camp
Joyless's Behind's mouth is the worst part of her so it's hard to believe that any other view could be substantially more unattractive. Then again, I don't wanna be the one to test that hypothesis. Yikes.
OMG I'm scarred for life with that image seared in my brains. O the agony of such an ugly site. What’s next walrus O’Donnell in a bikini?
Thank you Gregory Tart for that imagery, I threw up in my mouth a little.
Andre, my sentiments exactly. They will invade the last strong conservative hold outs because the jobs are still there, and by the time everyone see it slipping away, well.....
As a lifelong NJ res (almost - I lived in Queens for about 2 yrs, though my legal address remained in NJ), I can replace New York with "New Jersey" in your post, without changing the accuracy one bit. Outside of Christie, the NJ Republicans gave us Tom Kean (who rode Reagan's popularity), and Christie "witless" Whitman. Yeah, thanks a lot. With Republicans like that, who needs Democrats?
Word of warning to residents of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, etc: All these New Yorkers and Jerseyites are moving to your states, where they will inevitably vote in the same corrupt governments they created here. They may be moving out, but they are absolutely clueless as to why it is impossible to stay here.
Tell me about it, they are moving here to Texas and all they do is complain about it not being cold enough and then it's too hot in the summer, they complain about our wonderful food and well about everything and then they want us to change to accomodate them. Just yesterday some dumb kid parked his car with Michigan plates right in front of my house and left it there I am going to call the sheriff and have it towed away. There are many other places the little twit could have parked but no he parks it right in front of my house. I don't know who he is but it won't be here when he gets back he can pick it up from impound for all I care. Can't they just stay home?
Can I vacate this country until Obama is gone?
Yes but the country might not be here when you get back.
There is a movie about it. It is called "Escape from New York".
The solution to the exodus out of New York, of course, is to make more regulations and increase taxes. Works every time it's tried!!!!111!!!eleventy
These same policies are being forced on the rest of the country and the inevitable failure will send our best and brightest out of the country.
