No kidding? NPR board members gave 89% of political donations to left wing candidates and groups

Does NPR lean to the left? Let’s answer that question with another question: Was Jimmy Carter a lousy President?

A new analysis of campaign finance documents shows that NPR’s board members have overwhelmingly supported Democrat candidates and other left wing groups. Unsurprising, perhaps, but interesting to see the actual numbers.

npr-target-logoUS News reveals the specifics:

Since 2004, members of the boards of NPR and the NPR Foundation, the public broadcaster’s fundraising arm, have contributed nearly $2.2 million to federal candidates, parties, and PACs, of which $1.95 million, or 89 percent, has gone to Democratic candidates and liberal-leaning political action committees.

Officers and trustees of the NPR Foundation, which has no control over the organization’s programming, have given substantially to national political campaigns in recent years. According to data from the Center for Responsive Politics, this group’s members (as listed on NPR’s most recent available annual report, from fiscal year 2008) have given almost $2.1 million to political campaigns in the last eight years. Fully 89 percent of this giving was to Democrats and progressive organizations. These figures include all federal contributions since the 2004 election cycle, the first in which “soft money” contributions were banned. “Soft money” refers to money given to a party for non-campaign activities, which until being banned in 2002 were unlimited and largely unregulated.

There’s a reason, apparently, that all those NPR stations are located on the left side of the dial.

  • They claim that they don't need the gubmint money to stay on the air. So let's just do a little experiment to see if that's true. Defund.

    • I'm trying to figure out if the wording of the stat allows that maybe the other 11% gave their money directly to the communist party.

I'll bet there are a lot of angry NPR employees today interrogating their co-workers to find out which turncoat gave money to right-wingers.

  • Let's look at it a different way: If they gave support to the right wing, they'd know that would be the end of objectivity.

    • Damn it tadcf, by the way, does your name stand for, Taddie the commie f***?!? I gave you another effing thumbs up before I had finished the last word or your post! What objectivity does NPR have...you stealth marxist-socialist seminar irritator?

I totally agree with deepthinker, if NPR, wants to use taxpayer money to advance the socialist agenda, I for one, don't want them on the air if the only way they can buy air time is to steal their funding from the American people.
This must be what Lenin meant when he said..."and they (the capitalists) will sell us the rope to hang them with!"

tadcf, why in the Hell do you hang around here? You remind me of Agualung, aren't there a enough little boys at the Mall, or did your mommy give you a basement pass?

  • So in other words, we the tax payers have given this much money to the looney left. It is time for NPR to be defunded and defrocked. That way they can raise their own money from advertisers and stop asking the tax payers to pay for their left leanings.

  • Well that is the way of National Politiburo Radio wants to spend thier tax payer given pay, thats ok, they have their own agenda. By the way how much did each of those NPR types earn per year? Why do they earn so much that they can give that much away? Is that part of the charter too?
