Praise the Lord and start your engines

Here’s Pastor Joe Nelms of the Family Baptist Church in Lebanon, Tennessee delivering the greatest prayer in the history of NASCAR. Maybe even the greatest prayer in the history of prayers.

Say hallelujah!

  • That man is no pastor. The gospel minister is about proclaiming Christ's atoning work for the salvation of sinners - not tickling the ears of humans. The Christian religion is not about having fun - though much fun is OK. Christians are not to mock God nor make light of representing Him in front of people - which is what this "pastor" did. He should repent.

    • I agree, Manfred. There's just more than a little emphasis on playing to the audience here, as well as in church services.

  • How much did GM performance products and good year tire pay God to plaster their logo on a prayer?

Prraaiiseeee da laaawd! He made us good tiires and biiig IC engines that make laots of noise. If ma son cletus and little gurl kristale pray hard ee-nuf two U then dey can be good inventers 1 day 2.

Somewhere Jesus is slapping his forehead and standing in line to buy a Honda.

  • I think he went above and beyond what was necessary or appropriate. It sounded as if he were being paid by automotive suppliers to include plugs for products. It's rather irreverent to link the Almighty with performance products. He can thank our Lord in private for his "smokin' hot" (and well-fed) wife.

    • Have you ever seen paintings from the Renascence era? They *loved* "well fed" women. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and who gives a crap if no one else thinks his wife is smokin' hot? He does. He isn't married to you or anyone that thinks otherwise. He is married to her. And those parts he was praying about? They are what keep the mahcines running, people getting paid and the drivers safe on the track. Why not thank God for them? I thank God for my IBUYPOWER Pc that has run great for 2 years and is *still* running good.

In the end though it was a prayer but it was also a reference to a well known Nascar movie that probably most of the people there have seen. OMGosh a Prayer with humor in it? We shouldn't do that either. God forbid we bring some levity in this crappy time we live in.

      • Well, as recently as the Sixties, Marilyn Monroe was the standard of beauty, though she'd be considered fat today because she was a size 16. What's beautiful today may have little resemblance to what's beautiful tomorrow. And yes, those Rubens women were hefty lasses. :)

        • No, she was not a size 16. She was a size 8 for most of her career, size 10 when she became a bit plumpier. That said today sizes run smaller than they did in MM's day. So her size 8 was probably a 10 by today's standard.

    • Ephesians 5:20
Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
