Oh, how they worshipped Obama in 2008. How they believed in his message of Hope and Change. How they swooned at his speeches. How they knelt before the Chicago Jesus.

Yeah, well those days are over. Now that the classes of 2009 and 2010 are out in the real world and have seen that Hope and Change is really smoke and mirrors and can’t get jobs, they’ve made a u-turn back to reality.
HotAir.com has the story of their conversion:
A recent informal survey of 500 post-grads primarily between the ages of 22 and 28 — 83 percent of whom voted for President Barack Obama in 2008 — found just 27 percent of Obama’s previous youth supporters plan to vote for him again, The Daily Caller reports. That’s a drop of almost 60 points.
In contrast, of those who voted for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in 2008, a vast majority — 80 percent — said they would vote GOP again. An 80 percent majority of those newly disillusioned by Obama said they would consider voting for a Republican in 2012, too.
George Bernard Shaw said, “Youth is wasted on the young.”
So are political campaigns.

Olivia, when you come to a site that's all about views opposite yours, you must expect to be made fun of when you say stupid things. When will you refute any facts stated here, using hard evidence, rather than just stating that we are children, looking down your nose at us? Much like Obama does.

I'll refute your facts using "hard evidence," when you use "hard evidence" to present them. It's not my job to scurry around disproving your empty claims.
And I'm still waiting for you to produce the part in the "Obamacare bill" showing that Obama did, indeed, intend to set up "death panels."
It's very telling that you haven't even tried to produce it, but are now announcing that you don't want to respond to my posts any more.
I'll take that as a concession of defeat.
I'm seeing this thing more and more (Obama looking down nose).. Is the angle of Obama's head really of such concern to everyone?

That picture is a favorite of right wing websites. They know that their readers like to imagine Obama as "uppity."
The pictures a person chooses to portray a politician not only matter, they are a clear indicator of the mindset of the person choosing the picture. Thus, I expect uncomplimentary photos of Barry and Michelle here -- but find it interesting to see more of them in other places.
I guess it is a form of payback in that I don't care. Got tired of nasty photos of Bush (as well as the monkey cartoons -- wonder what the MSM would have said if they had done same to Barry) as well as other conservative figures.
I wouldn't choose those pictures -- because I don't have the time or the website. However, another fact about them amuses me greatly. Whoever takes the "down the nose" picture did that and made it available through no accident -- and we'd be *very* surprised at who is doing it. May not be the usual suspects. Barry has made some media people very upset with his retaliation to negative coverage.

I doubt it. To try to depict a sitting president as stuck up is pretty juvenile. Who the Sam Hill cares if a president is egotistical (assuming he is), as long as he does his job? Not me.
In Obama's case (he doesn't use the name "Barry," and hasn't for many years), I think they're doing it to make the point that he isn't as humble and docile as they expect him to be. Which, of course, says nothing at all about him, and a whole lot about them.
Olivia say she's an ER Nurse. ER obviously stands for Exceptionally Retarded.

Translation: "I can't dispute a single point she's making, so I'll content myself with flinging childish insults."
According to the article, less than 17% of young people voted for McCain in 2008--and 80% of those are likely to vote Republican again. That's less than 13.6% and hardly anything to applaud.
The absolute worst thing the GOP could do next week is solidify a front-runner. Because, yeah, Obama would lose in an election against the best, but elections are usually about the lesser of two evils. As soon as there's a specific Republican-counter to Obama, the President's numbers will go up...as happened in the elections during 2004, 1996, 1984 and so on.
I'm about to get polarizing. An opposition? You mean the incredible weak GOP field that's either boring to the point of exhaustion or bat shit crazy.
What exactly do you mean by "pragmatism" and "economic success for everybody"? Do you mean cutting social programs to pay for two wars, oil subsidies, oh and the big elephant in the room (no pun intended) tax cuts for the super rich? That just sounds like economic success for maybe the top two percent.
Three wars, you forgot Libya. Or did you forget about your Messiah getting us involved in that one?
It's easy to say tax the super rich when you have no clue as to how terminally screwed we are. You, being a younger person, should be pushing for budget cuts NOW. We can tax everybody at 100%, and the current mindset is, "We need more". This has been happening for 40 or 50 years. Whenever conservative type people would complain that we are wasting money and that we can't keep doing this, we were told that we were racist, or sexist, or against the children. Now we are caught up in a cesspool of lies, half truths, and misinformation to keep the people calm until the shit hits the fan.
Well now, let's see what the ingenuity of Americas youth has to offer (per your earlier post)...RAISE TAXES ON THE RICH....Hot damn!! That's the answer. No one has thought of that before!!

So what are YOUR suggestions to fix the economy?
1. Do not call me a right winger. You do not know me, and you are making assumptions.
2. I have found in past experiences that if one is against spending money that may benefit one group over another, one is called a bigot (one of your favorite terms) or racist or sexist. Do I have specifics? Yes, but I do not wish to delve into them here.
My suggestion to fix the economy is based on the same premise I use in real life. QUIT SPENDING MONEY YOU DO NOT HAVE!!!
Cuts have to be made. We cannot tax our way out of this.
Please explain your ways to get us out of this mess. Taxing the uber rich is an option, but is a very limited option, and will only get us so far.

That sounds good. Kind of like a family that decides to economize by skipping car maintenance and mortgage payments.
Sure, it looks good on paper. But, six months later, they find out why cutting out those two expenses was a really bad (and ultimately very costly) idea.
As usual, Olivia, you are a fool, chasing straw men everywhere. If a family needs to cut it's expenditures, the car maintenance and mortgage payments aren't the place to do it. And nobody here but you would say such a silly thing.
Let's say that this family that has quite a lot of income, realized that it only needed one lavish round-the-world trip per year. Let's say that they realized that $40 dollar sneakers worked every bit as well as $400 sneakers. Maybe they could cut back on the caviar and Kobe beef. Maybe,............ Well, you get the idea. Or maybe you don't. I'm thinking you probably don't.

Oh, I "get it" just fine. I "get it" that you've been brainwashed into thinking that affordable health care is a needless frill, like caviar or $400 sneakers.
It isn't. A person walking around with untreated illness or chronic pain is not likely to be as productive or industrious as s/he might be. So you and your right wing cohorts will b*tch and moan that this person is merely "lazy," and therefore deserves to go without work or a safe roof over his/her head----when, in fact, some medical attention might well control the symptoms, or even fix the problem, and result in a healthier, more productive person.
On the other hand, if this uninsured person tries to make a poor best of it by running to the emergency room for temporary treatment of symptoms, s/he will generate huge bills, and most likely be unable to pay them. So who pays them? You and I do. (Or, at any rate, I do. I have no way of knowing if you pay your medical bills.) So much for your efforts to reduce the deficit. It doesn't help much to keep taxes low, if we're all still going bankrupt from hyperinflation of health care costs.
THAT is why I used the oil change analogy here. Regular oil changes are a necessity, and one that prevents huge, expensive problems in the future. But, if you were to be talked into assuming that it was just a frill (as you seem to think health care is), you'd find out the hard way why eliminating that particular expense was a bad idea.
Not all of America's youths are supportive of taxing the rich, unless of course they watch msnbc, cnn....But it might be a majority.
I blame public schools ran by Unions, oops, I mean, Republicans.
Wow...as if it's his problem these kids didn't look at the market. I mean he IS trying. If any of these college kids(I'm one of them) actually paid attention to the political landscape they would know that the opposing party, the GOP, want to cut funding that allowed me and other college kids to go to school in the first place. The times are different. A college degree no longer guarantees a job, you need to make your resume look good.
I'll bet that my 30 years of service in the Marine Corps gets me a better job than your resume filler. Oh yeah, I don't have a degree, just world wide experience.

It all depends on whether your experience is what the employer is looking for.
And, of course, the concept of what makes one job "better" than another can be very subjective.
You are really quite stupid for all of your professed education. Quite obviously, I would choose a job that provides me job satisfaction as a major requirement to what I would term a better job. However, I believe the jobs that I qualify for are jobs that people like yourself turn into hit television shows. Yes, I think I can offer the term better job, not only subjectively as it applies to me, but objectively as millions of Americans can only dream to do what I have done, or are qualified to do after I have finished my active Marine career. Have a nice day.

No, they bought hope and change, but didn't see that there was no substance to it. Not untypical for kids. Now, yes, they need to have a resume to get a job, but apparently, there are too many kids with "hope & change" resumes looking for the same jobs.
They'd better learn how to say "do you want fries with that?" with feeling.
It's all good, though -- such bitter experiences will teach them all about in whom they should place their trust.

So tell me who you think can and will fix the current unemployment problem in the U.S., and how s/he will achieve this within a short time.
(And don't even bother to start rumbling about trickle down economics. We've had close to 30 years of trickling, and it never did prove to be a magic fix. Except, of course, for those who already had money.)
Every now and then, I read one of your posts to see if you've ever decided to either learn how to respond intelligently (as opposed to repeating the same tired liberal tropes over and over ad nauseum) or to see if you've mastered the quotation mark.
Apparently not yet.
So, in the interests of further good communication, I offer you some markup tags you can use on your future postings so people will have a chance of understanding what you are driving at. Here they are:
[babble] and [/babble]
Just enclose anything you type in them, so we can cut directly to your brain droppings.
Always happy to help!
As a further helpful aside -- repeating something does not make it true -- it is merely a repetition of your opinion. We picked up on what your perspective is, and it isn't flying. Take ol' victor and his frothy rage -- he at least changes what he types from time to time. We in turn *read* what he writes. (so we can goad him on further...) Try to offer new information. Don't forget to use your new tags!

I appreciate your interest, Perlcat, but I can't imagine why you'd assume I'd look to you for advice on how to punctuate my posts.
I'll continue as I have been, thanks.
But, hey, if you're looking for advice, I'd strongly suggest that you learn how to spell "ad nauseam." Never could understand why people who want to use foreign phrases can't be bothered to learn how to use (and/or spell) them correctly.......
Olivia,
If you must insist on being condescending, at least be correct. Ad nauseam is not a foreign phrase; it is a latin term.
I'll bet your reaction to my above statement is to get mad and start disecting this comment instead of understanding the point. If your intent is to persuade folks that there is some validity in your opinion, you won't do it with your current tactics. However, I think you just get off on drama, controversy, and the feeling of superiority. Yeah, that'll change the world.

That's "Latin," with a capital L. And, believe it or not, Latin is a foreign language----which of course would qualify "ad nauseam" as a foreign phrase.

I'm not mad at all. Odd that you get defensive when I'm just giving back to others what they don't mind dishing out to me. Odd, too, that you seem to think there's no room for controversy in political discussions, and that comments are inappropriate unless they're likely to "change the world."
Damn, and all this time I thought "nausea" was a word used by those with an upset tummy. I guess I should have attended college instead of serving my country then working 32 years as an engineer.
I know you educated types don't think too much of us laymen but I would bet you can't build a dam across a river in Venezuela. How about the highway from St. George, Utah south through the Virgin River Gorge? That was one tough project but we got it done. Have you driven across the Cochiti Dam north of Albuquerque, NM? When it was finished it was the 10th longest earth-filled dam in the world.
Men, sweat and hard work got these projects completed. College boys be damned, when we couldn't dazzle them with brilliance, we baffled them with bullshit. We got the job done and done right.

You don't have to defend your work to me. I agree that you don't have to have a college degree to do impressive work in this world. (Although it's getting harder and harder to land some of those jobs without first showing that piece of paper.....)
I was just having fun with Perlcat, who was apparently trying to engage me in a urinating match. ;)
Ouch! Have some "hope".
While the job market does look bleak, have some faith in the ingenuity of the American youth and, God forbid, American politicians. Someone has got to get it right. Soon people will start to wake up and realize the problems we face.
Maybe there wasn't the "change" most Americans wanted, but there has been a dramatic change in the direction of the country (whether you agree with it or not is another matter) and I believe, under Obama's leadership, we will continue to change, for good or ill.
The problem is the "change" we are getting is not the change we need and the Obummer, along with the House and Senate, are steering us into an economic ditch we will have a hard time digging out of.
The price of gasoline too high? Blame it on the President, who is in the "big oil" companies pocket. Wait a minute! Bush is not our President anymore so that mantra does not work! I notice you liberal leaning types, who bashed "Dubya" relentlessly when gas prices went through the roof after 9/11, have said nothing about gas prices today. Who is sucking up to big oil now? Your so-called messiah.
You liberal types pounded on George Bush for sending our troops to Iraq. So did I. We had no business going into that country unless we were going to kick ass, take names, then bring our men and women home. I don't see that happening yet. Wait a minute! It's all Bush's fault! The "exalted one" has done nothing to end the stupidity but you still blame George Bush.
What about Libya? We have no reason to stick our nose into their internal problems but I do not hear any of you liberal types bashing the Obummer! Why is that? Because he is the "annointed one" and not George Bush? Why do I not hear you liberals screaming about the waste of time, money and, maybe, lives messing with a little pissant country like Libya?
You answer these simple questions with some kind of intelligence, we will then start on the economy and that driving into the ditch thing I mentioned earlier.
I wouldn't call it leadership -- but the lack of it is certainly generating an opposition that will create the kind of changes that this country needs. I see a new literacy in political values and pragmatism rising -- and that will lead to economic success for everybody.
Im in college now...I took a "Women and gender studies" class just to argue with the "teacher" and everyone in the class. Being the only straight, conservative, Christian white man in the class of 90+ was hilarious. The garbage that spews out of these people's mouths is completely ridiculous without any logic or reason behind it 99.99% of the time. Every class theyd openly try to force feed socialism to us, and every time i would point out to them how they were wrong.

Uh huh. A conservative male pointing out that all the women in the class are "wrong." And, like so many conservative males, you failed to catch the irony of it. :D
By the way: what was the context of that discussion about socialism? And in what way(s) were the others' viewpoints "wrong"?
Way to go!!!!
The deal with the leftist profs is that they can't deal with any other view points. IOW, they can agree with everything they agree with and tolerate the same.
Those that can do. Those that can't teach socialist theory in college and are darn petty.

Funny----I had eight full years of college, and, during that time, I don't recall even one professor trying to push his political views on me. Nor do I remember any professors giving right wing students a hard time. I guess we were too busy following the curriculum. Go figure, huh? ;)
Eight years of college, and you rose to the level of ER nurse? Funny, my lady did that with only four years. When she finishes the rest of her education, she will be a Physician's Assistant. I guess you spent too much time in the Social Studies Department, not learning anything useful.

No. I earned a degree in foreign languages first. Unfortunately, there weren't many employment opportunities, and I needed a more secure income, so I went back to school. And, since then, I've also taken other classes that were of use to me professionally or personally.
Congratulations to your "lady" and her upcoming career, although I'm a little puzzled that an ER nurse would choose to go back to school for a PA rather than an NP. Nevertheless, it's a fine achievement, and I honestly admire her dedication. It isn't often that you see members of the British nobility pursuing such a demanding advanced degree. ;)
Members of British nobility? Not likely that I'd be hanging out with any of those inbred morons.

Nelson: "ha, ha"
No for real I have to laugh hard at this. It is just beautiful.
Olivia - you need to get a life.
Ya it sucks being an underemployed college grad. I was fortunate that I was an engineering major and none of the engineering professors ever discussed their political points of view. I did have a calculus teacher from the Ukraine who told stories of how he had to stand in food lines and the food they got was terrible, then went on to say that Obama's healthcare ideas were a "little socialist" but it was a good thing. Needless to say my head almost exploded. I also had an English professor in his 30's who got physically upset over Nixon, almost to the point of tears. A few others that were liberals, but most of them were OK. None that were openly conservative though, which is kinda disappointing looking back at it all.
To be perfectly honest, having a political view for a professor is not a good thing either way, unless the subject material is legal matters or political indoctrination.
The fad on campus may be for eco-awareness and various lefty things now -- but conservative opinions are equally not germane to many discussions. What a professor thinks in the bar or at his house is his own business -- but a discussion of a political party or politician either way should stay out of the classroom. A particular issue -- say, riparian rights -- belongs in the context of courses about legal matters about water rights.
Unfortunately, too many think that their political opinions are a useful part of their teaching. I have to wonder -- if a professor has to resort to indoctrination to get his point across -- hasn't he already lost the battle of ideas? I still can't figure out what part of an English class requires a discussion of Nixon, good or bad. Last I heard, Dick wasn't much of a writer in the English lit sense.
I could see a discussion of Woodward & Bernstein's work in a journalism class -- being pertinent to the subject matter -- however, there are also cases of reportage that show problems with the left, and interests of fairness and professionalism require that they be covered as well. What *are* the journalistic implications of a politician shutting off access to reporters that report unfavorably in his opinion?
Political ideologues are tiresome in thinking that *everybody* wants to hear their opinion *everywhere*. I get really sick of people passing off indoctrination as "the free exchange of ideas", while unable to tolerate the ideas of people on the other side of the spectrum. If a Ward [koff -- asshole -- koff] Churchill can speak at a college without violence, then a Michele Bachmann also should be able to speak on the same campus. The fact that some of the most vocal and over-the-top protesters of Bachmann are professors speaks poorly of the tenure system, their professionalism, and their understanding of free speech.
This goes a thousand times over when a conservative or republican group tries to form or meet and meets with legal harassment for being a 'hate group'.
Campuses are no longer bastions of free speech in an atmosphere of zero tolerance and lockstep thinking.
The fact that some of the most vocal and over-the-top protesters of Bachmann are professors speaks poorly of the tenure system, their professionalism, and their understanding of free speech.
*************************
Oh, give me a break. The woman is an ignoramus, spouting lies and misconceptions every time she takes a breath. I think it's a bit much for you to expect professional educators to give her rants a free pass, just because YOU want to believe she's smart and truthful. :D
Would you expect the same----what's that term you guys love to use? "political correctness"----from professors, when they're lecturing about Nazi and Soviet propaganda? Should they refrain from telling their students that Hitler and Stalin sometimes told lies, on the grounds that professors aren't supposed to be "political"?
See, I never really cared that some professors I had were liberals. It may be because when I started my college career I first went to a community college (btw I am a huge supported of community colleges, it was a great school), just kickin it around, trying to figure out what I wanted to do. This however meant a schedule that was screwed up and often left me with time to sit around and listen to the radio, where I began to get a political education at The Limbaugh Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies. In turn, I was able to quickly see their inherent bias as something that was not necessarily correct or true, but rather a point of view. So when I seen a 30 something English teacher freak out over Nixon, Bush, the Patriot Act (I remember writing a paper on the Patriot Act for his class, which was probably in late 2005 or 2006, I think I kissed his ass to get an A, although there were some things about the P.A. that I was not a fan of) I could classify him for what he was, a liberal. This realization allowed me to not only clarify and define my points of view, but also allowed me to separate the opinion a person has from reality.
So when I heard liberal professors make his or her argument, not only was I not surprised at what they said, but I knew what they were going to say and why they were wrong. All of this allowed me to enjoy it when they went off on some crazy liberal tangent, rather than resent them. I think the unfortunate part is that in the colleges and media the liberal point of view is represented as the true and the correct point of view, and the conservative point of view is seen as racist and stupid.
You should realize though that this is all changing. The stranglehold the liberals had on the colleges and media is diminishing everyday, and it terrifies them. The screaming of racist, bigot, stupid, evil conservatives is a last ditch attempt to delegitimize the conservative message, but it wont work. I'm not saying a tea partier will win the next election, but I can tell you I have had more stimulating conversations with conservative college students then I ever had with liberal ones, and if that is a representation of things to come 20 or 30 years down the road, we just need to make sure our great nation makes it that long.

Of course you have, because (1) you agree with them, and (2) you don't have to defend your beliefs with them.
One reason, I think, that so many right wing students think professors are trying to "indoctrinate" them: Conservatism is about sticking with the status quo, or even (in some cases) retreating to a seemingly more gratifying past. Liberalism is about trying new things, moving into the future. It's a professor's job to get students thinking, to examine new ideas, instead of just clinging to old ones. That doesn't necessarily mean s/he's trying to turn them into liberals-----just teaching them to have open minds. And the idea of having an open mind is, in many cases, anathema to conservative ideology.
Unfortunately, too many think that their political opinions are a useful part of their teaching. I have to wonder — if a professor has to resort to indoctrination to get his point across — hasn’t he already lost the battle of ideas? I still can’t figure out what part of an English class requires a discussion of Nixon, good or bad. Last I heard, Dick wasn’t much of a writer in the English lit sense.
**********************
English courses aren't just about reading literature. They're also about critical thinking.....and I can think of many examples of Nixon's actions, that would be very useful in teaching that particular skill. ;)

The fact that some of the most vocal and over-the-top protesters of Bachmann are professors speaks poorly of the tenure system, their professionalism, and their understanding of free speech.
*************************
Not at all. The right to free speech doesn't include protection against the natural consequences of lying or divisiveness.
If Bachmann doesn't understand that point, then it's high time she learned. And I can't think of anyone more qualified to teach it than a college professor.
I'd rather have a chimpanzee teaching my daughter, over a lot of these so-called professors. Overpaid, obviously politically inclined goons, who some are little better than the gestapo of the 1940's.
I want my child making up her OWN mind about the world around her, not having some lunatic force-feeding her dribble about how great the Most Holy President can walk on water, etc.

So you're homeschooling, then? ;)

You haven't spent much time around university professors, have you? That was about the lamest and most far fetched accusation I've heard yet.
Of course, if your daughter came home from school and told you she'd become a political liberal, you'd never in the world believe that she'd made up her own mind, would you? You'd accuse the university of "indoctrinating" her.
Socialism is merely the paper form of Communism. Once a socialist ideal is put into practice, it becomes Communism.
Obama's healthcare bill on paper = socialist.
Putting it into law = communist.
What's next?

It would seem that you've been taught to be frightened to death of social programs.
In view of this infirmity, what nation (other than this one) currently comes closest to your ideal of how a nation should be run?
Can you come up with any examples of successful, prosperous modern nations with minimal (or no) social programs?
Japan. Taiwan. Our country before LBJ decided welfare for lazy people was a good idea. Are you so dumb, with no knowledge or our history, that you do not understand the fact we became the most powerful, richest, generous civilization ever know to man, because we were a nation of those that do, not those that do nothing?
Go to India or China, no "social programs" there, but their economy is booming because their governments are begining to understand that free enterprise is the only way to go. You want to guess who is lining their pockets? Us, the American consumer, because major businesses in this country cannot compete anymore due to all the stupid rules, regulations, unions and gooberment bullshit involved in doing business here.
She's gonna jump all over Japan answer, Sir Whiskey. Health insurance mandates, national health insurance, much less cost, and greater longevity.
There are no ideal nations on this earth. Every nation is with fault in some form or another. Programs that assist the elderly are good programs. However, as they are run by this inept government, corruption runs rampant. How about the welfare system? I'm sick of my tax dollars feeding illegal Mexican immigrants. I'm sick of my tax dollars taking care of people who are able to work, but refuse to work. You are utterly and completely missing the entire point. As usual it seems.

Yes, but that's not what I asked you. I asked you to give an example of a nation, other than the U.S., that comes CLOSEST to your ideal of a prosperous nation with few or no social programs.
Interestingly, no one seems to be able to come up with one. Doesn't that tell you something? That perhaps your idea of a nation in which all social programs are strictly on the honor system isn't very practical or workable?

Let me get this straight: you think government programs are inevitably corrupt, but you have complete trust in for-profit enterprises and those who run them. THat's funny. :D

And I'm sick of right wingers parroting stereotypes, in an effort to excuse their own lack of willingness to take civic responsibiity.
I'm also sick of right wingers blathering on about welfare, when welfare reform----instituted almost 16 years ago now!----has made it impossible for "people who .....refuse to work" to use it for longterm relief.
And I'll tell you what else I'm sick of: right wingers using "where are the jobs?" as an excuse to call Obama a failure-----but then getting outraged when selected Americans are unable to find work for months or even years on end. What's it going to be? ARE there enough jobs paying a living wage to go around, or aren't there? You can't have it both ways.
So, what you're trying to say, Olivia, is that there are really no welfare mommas, living off the dole their entire lives, even for multiple generations? And that no welfare money goes to illegal aliens? Stereotypes come in handy sometimes, when they're true.
Who was this "welfare reform" instituted by 16 years ago? The federal government? What about the fact that most welfare is administrated by state and local governments? So, you believe that all the lifelong welfare mommas got up off their asses, turned off Oprah, and went out to get jobs. You are such a naive woman, Olivia.

Or when they're politically expedient, even if they're largely exaggerations and lies.

We're discussing FEDERAL government spending here, Guy. So, unless you have evidence that the federal government is NOT following current policies as instituted 16 years ago, your argument about people "living off the dole their entire lives" is both untrue and irrelevant.

Not at all. I do think there are people who sit on their butts and expect others to support them----but it's naive to assume that they're all "welfare mommas" (right wing code for "black women.")
First of all, the average welfare payment amounts to about $900 per month for a family of four. That's hardly enough to pay for this comfortable life of leisure that you're describing.
Second, what is it about you far righters that causes you to dump on women, but ignore the men who impregnated them and then flew the coop? Or, for that matter, to focus almost exclusively on BLACK women? Were you under the impression that white men and women don't get welfare benefits?
Third, where are your statistics indicating that people are still collecting welfare throughout their lives, despite the fact that there's now a lifetime limit of five years?
Fourth, I agree that illegal immigrants should not receive welfare. But that is an abuse of the system, not the system itself----and using it to argue against social programs is like arguing that driving cars should be illegal, because sometimes drunk people drive them and cause accidents.
And, fifth, please explain to me how miring children in perpetual poverty is calculated to bring prosperity back to this country. And don't bother arguing "But the charities will take care of it." Obviously, if you think the nation is too broke to be able to continue social programs, then it's unfair to expect private citizens to pick up the slack.

Oh, Rocking Horse??? Yoo hoo! You forgot to produce your evidence that open-ended welfare is still going on in the U.S. In fact, you forgot to produce anything other than that shopworn "welfare queen" stereotype.
Did you want to concede defeat on this argument, too?
Olivia, because Momma didn't cross her legs , Child must suffer the sins of the Father and embrace destitution (even if daddy's flown the coop 6 states away). It is a fine test for the soul
Let see "Obama then vs Obama now" compared to "McCain then vs GOP now." Should be "Obama then vs Dem now." Shmucky schmuck schmuck. We all know GOPs stay GOP. Try again mediatards. If you can't see the stupidity in this poll then you should not raise your gaze above your navel. It's called jr high media literacy. arf arf arf!
