What’s bigger than a breadbox and slower than a bus? Hint: Joe Biden fantasizes about it. Give up? New Geography solves the riddle:
The state of Iowa is being asked to provide funds to match federal funding for a so-called “high speed rail” line from Chicago to Iowa City.
High speed rail: Pissing away your tax dollars faster than any competitive system
Luxury intercity bus service is [already] provided between Iowa City and Chicago twice daily. The luxury buses are equipped with plugs for laptop computers and with free wireless high-speed internet service. Perhaps most surprisingly, the luxury buses make the trip faster than the so-called high speed rail line, at 3:50 hours. The trains would take more than an hour longer (5:00 hours). No one would be able to get to Chicago quicker than now. Only in America does anyone call a train that averages 45 miles per hour “high speed rail.”
For the sake of accuracy, that last line should read “Only in the Obama Administration…” as we don’t recall that idiot Bush proposing anything this “visionary.” Nor this hallucinatory.
By the way, fares are simply un-fair:
The state would be required to … [make] up the substantial difference between costs and passenger fares. This is despite a fare much higher than the bus fare, likely to be at least $50 (based upon current fares for similar distances). By contrast, the luxury bus service charges a fare of $18.00…
The plan will be workable once Obama decides the Commerce Clause empowers him to outlaw buses.
In the 1940s, F.A. Hayek wrote about “The Road to Serfdom”; now we have hi-speed rail to get there. Progressives are all about progress.
Hay loookieee dar Jeb....... it be 1 ah dem der irnhurses..............her tel dey do almst si-ty!
1832: The American No. 1 was the first 4-4-0, the first of its class. It was capable of regular speeds of 60 mph with its 9.5" by 16" cylinders. Designed by John B. Jervis, Chief Engineer for the Mohawk & Hudson. From http://www.sdrm.org/history/timeline/
The only thing 'high-speed' about this is how fast it will fill union coffers.
I heard the administration wanted to get Thomas the Tank Engine to be the spokesperson for the project, but Thomas did not want the scrutiny to be about him since he is coal fired.
Let me guess, fee's will based on Income levels and you will need to inform the gubment if you own a gun ( like Florida's Obama care policy)
I was told the Bullet train would run from Detroit to Chicago, that makes more sense than Iowa, unless Iowa is the next target of "Hope and change"
Ya know. I'll bet this makes perfect sense to liberals!
Olivia? Where are you? We need you to translate this, so we can understand it. It just doesn't make sense without your translation.
So what is in Iowa City that merits this cash hemorrhage ? Is it a site that gives free money and votes to politicians?
Will someone please change the bong water?
No need. They already drank it.
All this talk of high speed gravy trains makes me sick; what this country really needs is my proposed high speed canal system linking Youngstown, Toledo, and Terre Haute. This would cut the national debt to 38.00, reduce unemployment to .01%, and drop the price of gas to six cents a gallon. Just send me a billion dollars in small, unmarked bills and I'll take care of the whole thing.
Thanks Joe, I'm going to send you some money right now and all I have are small unmarked bills, will ones and ones do? All I need is a mailing address and get right on it!
Stupid, asinine, dense, dull, dumb, obtuse, slow, unintelligent. Take your pick.
I thought this was a thread about some dorky rail service. Since when did we switch to describing the democrat party?
All of the above.
You know, buy a car and you can DRIVE there in only 4 hours...
