It’s pretty common for people to name their kids after people and places that are important to them. You name your son after your favorite uncle or your daughter after the place she was conceived. At least that’s what normal people do.
We don’t know if Shirley Sherrod is a racist or not. But we know something else about her based on nothing more than what she named her children.
She and her white-hating husband Charles Sherrod named her son “Kenyatta”. (In case you’re too young to remember, Jomo Kenyatta was the corrupt, authoritarian ruler of Kenya from 1964-78.
They named her daughter “Russia.” (In case you’re too young to remember, Russia was the largest republic in the USSR, the world’s original communist dictatorship and America’s greatest enemy of the 20th century).
How much more do you need to know about Shirley Sherrod and what she believes?

"A rose, by any other name, would smell as sweet" Conversely, a racist, socialist democrat who lives off of the government is still a threat to freedom, even if their names were Barbie or Ken. To beat these people at their game, we need to remain focused on words and deeds and ignore names and color.

Ann, not sure where you've met all these people named "Russia." Just did a quick search on BabyNames.com - clearly a racist, homophobic site - and found listings for Asia, India, even Kenya (which comes from a Hebrew word, incidentally; I guess we should add "Zionist" to the site description). But no Kenyatta, and no Russia on the entire list of names. Naming a child after a country or a city isn't that unusual, but there aren't a whole lot of kids running around with names like Mongolia, Chernobyl, Kosovo or Darfur. It seems really unlikely they just picked those two names out of a hat.

I'm trying to figure out what exactly is wrong with their names. Russia, Asia, India, etc are popular names for black girls. Kenya is a popular black name too. Would you probably prefer John and Mary.

Tell it like it is KQ. I mean, I know a white girl named India and another white girl named Asia. I work at a hospital and I come across all kinds of people and all kinds of names but as of yet I have not met any black girls with those names. Not saying none exsist, just haven't met any.
Hey Annie, maybe they felt naming their kids Mugabe, Stalin, Lenin, or Mao was in poor taste. As someone who despises socialism in all it's forms, these people offend me, & their kids deserve the teasing they get for having parrents dumb enough to name them Kenyatta & Russia. I'm sure they will be as bright as the parrents as well. Ignorant bigots procreating usually produces the next generation of ignorant bigots.
