Not too brrrrrrright: Students are freezing in $40,000 solar powered classroom

Just one quick question before we get to the meat of this story: Are you aware of an eco-project – any eco-project anywhere in the world – that actually works and doesn’t require massive government subsidies? This one certainly doesn’t qualify.

Learning is difficult in this British eco-classroom because the teacher's lectures are drowned out by the chattering of the students' teeth

The Daily Mail UK reports the chilling details:

Eco-campaigners who built a classroom powered by the sun believed they were paving the way for the future.
Instead they have been taught a valuable lesson – there is not enough sun in North London to sufficiently heat their building.
The much feted zero-carbon Living Ark classroom was opened three months ago to great fanfare.

It boasts laudable green credentials and is made from sustainable wood, sheep’s wool and soil. The roof is made of mud and grass and it has its own ‘rain pod’ and solar panels.
But there is snag – its solar panels only provide enough energy to power a few lightbulbs.
As a result the classroom is bitterly cold and uninhabitable for lessons.

Parents have branded it ‘useless’, an ‘expensive piece of wood’ and a ‘great idea for the Caribbean’.

The Living Ark was built at Muswell Hill Primary School, North London, at the cost of £25,000.

If we could merely harness the hot air expelled by Al Gore and his band of global warming acolytes, the classroom would be so damn hot that the little British tykes would have to strip down to their skivvies. Which would, of course, present a whole different set of problems.

  • You know...what amazes me is the fact nobody notices that "to" should be "too" in the headline but what do I know? I'm just an unwashed part of the masses.

  • Like there was global warming in the first place. Another Ponzi for the globocrats with YOU paying the bill (again) I smell bullshnizlitz

  • It's eco-nomics: feels good, uses other people's money whenever possible, costs 15 times more than originally estimated, is usually ridiculously inefficient, is never built on time and usually ends up looking like an elephant designed by a committee of blind engineers. This one kinda looks like a Hobbit hole.

  • One of the coldest days I ever spent was after getting off a plane in July at Heathrow. I flew there from Orlando and wasn't expecting cold, wet, windy rain. These folks couldn't have possibly done any engineering because it's possible to predict the heat gain/loss before the building is built. This had to be just a feel-good waste of money.

    • I wonder what the RU value is?

I know, get the pink panther to do a comercial on them.....there all better!

  • These pipe dreams always work... In the winter they provide a cold classroom environment and in the summer they provide a hot classroom environment.

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOL

They are idiots! England is notorious for bad weather. Eco liberals are fools. If I had them in front of me I would laugh in their face.

    • LOL... silly, stupid, wasteful, eco-tards. Next thing you know they'll be handing out umbrellas with big holes in them so the sun can shine through and keep them warm while it's raining on them.

        • Kimmy, the thumbs down probably came from some eco-tard that's pissed because I stole their brilliant "solar umbrella" idea before they could get it legally mandated by the EPA & internationally endorsed by Man-bear-pig Gore.

Actually, I can't take credit for the concept for the umbrella... It came from an issue of 'Mad Magazine's' Al Jaffe's Mad Inventions I recalled reading back in the 70's when all this "energy Crisis/Global Warming" Bullsh1t got started during the Peanut Farmer's 4 disastrous years of libtard insanity...

          • And since the public wouldn't buy them, Obama could conjure up a new federal department to buy them and distribute them to the poor.

          • Or make laws out of his ass in order to make average citizens buy it, if we don't, then tax us or send us to prison like a good little dictator that he is.

  • I don't want to hear the words Eco, Sustainable, Environmentally friendly or even green ever again. I don't even think I'll read Green Eggs and Ham to my grandkids the word repulses me so much. We need to point the artillery for the "War on Terror" at the next political scam artist that utters any one of the above listed words.

  • At least it was the English tax payers money that was wasted this time. Some enlightened individual here in the USA will wish to try this here. I say we set it up some where in Idaho or North Dakota. That way all the children can sit real close and stay snug and warm.
